The origins of the name are identified from the reference, around the 10th century, to *Caro*, a French monk of the Casauriense abbey, a blood relative of the emperor Ludwig II; it comes from "Caro Monaco" (Dear Monk) hence - Caramanico.
Beyond the legends, the origin is linked to the Lombard Arimannia, a settlement of soldiers of a strategic nature (hypothetical Latinized name Harimannicum).

The current nucleus must have developed during the barbarian invasions, as evidenced by the probably Lombard origin of the name. We find traces of the parish church of Santa Maria around the year 1000, while from the same appears, in the 13th century, mention of the church of San Tommaso.
In the Chronicon Casauriense the wording "putrid waters" appears, the first reference to the presence of sulphurous waters in the area. The story of Caramanico then follows the events of the Kingdom of the two Sicilies, as a fief of the D'Aquino family. It suffered extensive damage in the 1706 earthquake.
The construction of the historic buildings dates back to the following years. To underline the importance assumed over..........
