For everyone who rode in a 1998 dodge caravan in their childhood, and have nice memories, tell yourself that even us, who were adults, it represents a better time, when the world was more optimistic and the life seemed to be full of promises for the young family we were. It seems strange that a car crushing video bring back an overflow of happy memories from a simpler, perhaps more naive time. "Time goes on and never comes back" as they say.

I rode in a 2000 Plymouth Voyager, close enough. Lots of road trips and fun memories. That van was also where I was when the Twin Towers were hit though, so not completely innocent

It only represents a better time for you because you were a child then, unaware of the complications and pitfalls of life at the time. I am slightly older and have no nostalgia for this time, other than for the music. We all have a blindness and a distorted perception for the times when we still had our innocence.

Think about all the road trips, late night drives, morning commutes, mini concerts, therapy sessions, laughs, cries, and deep conversations that have taken place in your car since you've had it. We underestimate how much time we spend with our cars. They give us freedom to experience the world. As corny as it sounds, losing a car is like losing an old friend.

Oh gosh. Had to put my 12 year-old Westie, Sophie (my profile pic), down last month. She had a malignant tumor that developed seemingly overnight. She was in so much pain. I’m still devastated, and miss her so much. Her favorite stuffed toy stays right beside me. You’re obviously a dog person, so you get it. God Bless.

@@ultrawidemods5175 I do agree at some degree. People nowadays just buy parts new, maybe not OEM but some cheaper brands instead of old. It's worth more recycling all the metal that's why they crush to pile it up and ship to a melting factory. Parts can lay around for years for never to be sold even tho if it's sold the profit would definitely be much MUCH higher than selling those crushed cars per ton.

Nice. I am even more amazed at how the Dodge Caravan's Side Mirror glass Survived all five car crushings. It is one of the most delicate part of a car. Ironically, It turns out to be the most reliable part of a Dodge Caravan, capable of surviving multiple car crashes, accidental or otherwise.

Depending on what model machine this is, they can crush with 158 tons of force. Hydraulics are amazing. The square baler ones are even crazier.

I always pictured when these cars were brand new. I was a kid, just remembered seeing all the commercials for these cars.

That's honestly what just happens. Bought all my cars new except the first one I had, and really you do not know what will happen with it in the future. Either I will crash it, and send it to the junkyard, or I will own it for like 20 years and then sell, at least I hope I won't be the one to crush my current car.

And given that this appears to be the midwest, and that the panels are that rusty, I can imagine the frame is long, long past repair. Also, this is less wasteful that not crushing them, since the metal can be used for other things.

Friend had a green van just like that one. They called it the Booger. Damn thing took them all over the country and the only reason they got rid of it was because the engine blew up in 2013 during a snow storm. Many good memories in the Booger 😂

At least that red tail bulb survived this entire crush!

Nothing lasts forever. Definitely not these cars, for example. But some of the memories that may have been made in these cars definitely will.

Back in 1998 my dad rented a Voyager and a Plymouth Breeze while our family car, a Toyota Corolla, in body shop. Unlike the Corolla, the Rental Breeze and Voyager got AC and power windows, they are cool AF at that time 😊

It was a very quiet car too. Very useful for a young father. I bought one new in 1997. It was a grayish 1998 dodge grand caravan. I kept it till 2015. Very useful to do renovation work in my house. I drove my daughters at their first day in daycare and both learnt to drive with that car too.

My dad had a dodge caravan. That thing brought back so many good memories from my childhood. It was a 2002. Seeing one just like it being crushed feels like a piece of my childhood being taken away.

There's a good mix of emotions here. On one hand, I'm sad that it has to happen this way. That the memories associated with these vehicles have become nothing more than scrap. On the other hand, I know that it's just a car. They're machines that are meant to be used and then re-used at will. On my third hand, I'm happy that these vehicles were used for their intended (or unintended) purpose. It's likely they allowed people to live an enjoyable life. I can't be upset about that. To anyone who reads this, I wish you a great day (or night). :)

These Grand Caravans were one of the only American cars you could buy here in the UK. Ive had 3 of them and miss them terribly. Nothing else like it.

I just picture The Wolf waiting outside. “We good?” “Like it never happened.”

As an avid home mechanic who enjoys going to the local pick-n-pull, it makes me sad to see lot of good parts go to waste.

We had them only for urban patrols. Highways were using crown Vic and 5.7 equipped chevy caprice. I had 2 ex police caprice and it was a monster. Very fast car. I had both 1990 and 1993 models. The 93 was faster. I used to flip cars as a side job. They warned me I had to stop because I had bought an sold too many cars in a year. I would have to bought a commercial license if I wanted to continue. Government always wants its shares 🙄

I feel a little dumb for just now realizing yall crush many cars together into a pack like this. I always thought you just stacked them later! Lol

This reminds me of my first car, which they towed away all because it was a POS and a little hail damage wasn't worth fixing to my insurance company. I didn't get to witness it being towed, but despite all its flaws, it was my first car and it drove just fine. I just hope it found a owner who was willing to look past all the dents on its roof, and not, well, at a place like here. Damn didn't expect to be in tears over such a simple video.

Very relaxing to watch after a very bad week! That early 2000s Olds Intrigue is like one I owned. Loved that car.

Agreed I hate Tesla's overhyped Tupperware piles of shit with the reliability of a fuckin yugo (worked in a garage that was certified for them and we got at least three new ones in per day most for the bullshit display messing up and breaking the entire car) I'm more than happy with my 95 accord cause yeah it's a beater without a heater, has more rust than paint and is the definition of "teenage shitbox" but she runs reliably and is more fun to drive than any Tesla ever (not faster lol just more fun)

It's VERY satisfying to see these blots on the landscape flatten out. Improves the styling dramatically! Hate to see the old ones go, but I appreciate how well they hold up compared to modern junk.

Glad you are okay! So sorry a selfish drunk totaled your vehicle!

Agh.. That Caravan is the only thing i have always seen in my childhood. I have seen lots of these things in my life and now they had evolved through these times. Even my friend's family used to drive that too.

This thing was my childhood hero! When I was little we had a documentary video about one of these and I thought it was sooo cool I watched it over and over again. Now it kinda hurts seeing some cool cars go through but still satisfying and nostalgic to watch.

This makes me sad see a car go to the crusher no matter what it is 😢.

Once somebodies pride and joy, they drove home from the dealership after forking over a chunk of their hard earned money and showed their family, friends and neighbors the shiny brand new vehicle they bought. And in the end, here's what it's worth. Nothing. It's kind of a metaphor for life in general. A baby is born, it means the world to everybody. That baby struggles, makes a living and is now old and dies alone. Most family and friends dying before him.

It's mostly based on manipulating people into following a certain lifestyle. The salvage yard around here (hans foreign auto) has over 1000 cars, many of them 1970s/80s/90s... Lots of the customers are people that have cars like a 92 Infiniti Q45, 85 volvo 240, vw corrado, 70s mercedes, etc.. Which shows their ability to see though the phony perception of value in having something based on the time elapsed since it rolled off a mass production assembly line... You're not going to find any commercialized agenda driving these people to possessing these vehicles, they do it purely independent of the pressures of our empty and material society.

@@baboracus thats true just because a car is old and in good condition doesn't mean it isn't scrap.

As a car guy, this messes me up inside. I once owned an ex-cop car ('87 Crown Vic LTD), and a 2000 Olds Intrigue. I miss both those cars, and it makes me remember how reliable they were. They started on shitty, cold, rainy days, got me from point A to B, and I had fun with them. I'm sure they both went under the crusher by now, so that sucks. 😕

The grand caravan holds a dear place in my heart.Despite its leaky tranny and engine plus the rusty bodywork.It never failed to start and never left me stranded,plus it was my dad’s and left it before he passed away from cancer.Cant help but get attached to these metal structures.

This is not cool because if Copart didn’t exist this would of been there final resting spot, although this looks cool but you have to realize how much it would take to rebuild this.

It will take time to clean up afterwards but there’s poor peoples cars like that CARAVAN that was crushed.

Can’t we use some parts to put it on other vehicules before crushing it with glasses and side mirrors in good shape for example ? I don’t get why we break things that can still be used… I like the view but it should be having less usable parts on it before doing this. Am I wrong?

Mother says to her son where did you park the car, her son replies I think in the wrong place. Then he handed her a small piece of it. 🤣

There is so much in those cars that can be salvaged. Crushing them like that is just outrageous.

The Stratus still had a shiny paint job for sitting a long time (look at the time flattened tire)

Probably had a blown motor, shoddy electrics, bad transmission and the worst offense of them all ... It's a stratus/intrepid (dogshit cars even when brand new)

Man, I had a 99 Olds Intrigue GLS with the 24v “ShortStar” V6 as a daily driver back then (company provided lease). It was a pretty nice car, with a slick sounding motor; with the more aggressive FDR, it moved with some authority. Seeing one get unceremoniously squished together with a bunch of cab-forward era mopar stuff makes me feel pretty old.

❤ I currently own my grandpa's white 2004 Olds Alero 3.4L V6 and it still only has 161, 000 km on it because he only used it to drive to church and the grocery store. I LOVE this car, but the rust is literally creating holes in the body panels... I got it rustproofed this year at Krown for the first time in 20 years LOL in the hopes that the body survives just a liiiiitle bit longer. The head gaskets have clearly checked out, there's been oil on the engine for so long. The battery dies overnight (computer issue), and no mechanic agreed to take the job, so we just put a kill switch on the battery circuit. You really need to finesse the throttle to start the engine, hot or cold. I am deeply in love with this car and I'm really going to miss this car when it's time comes. Just yesterday, for the first time EVER, I drove right past ANOTHER white Alero (and IN MY OWN NEIGHBOURHOOD!) and it was an old lady driving it, and we waved at each other and smiled real wide, and it was a happy moment. This car, man. I'm going to tear up. I'm getting sad now just writing this comment. I don't know if I'll ever have a car that makes me feel this way ever again. _Sigh_

Had a fully loaded Town & Country from that same era... I truly wish that we could go back in time.

There was once a day when they were brand new in the lot. someone purchased them and they were proudfull of there purchase. they were there pride and joy. they were loved and cherished memories were made. Some seen families started and seen the children grow up. took them to school everyday and took there owners wherever they wanted to go. they saw many sunrise and sunsets and now here they are at your local salvage yard. it doesn't have to end like this we can make a difference go to your local salvage yard and rescue a car from its end. to be loved and cherished once again. And forever be maintained and be brought back to its showroom state. And drop the jaws of all whom see it drive down the street because it's a true survivor and beautiful piece of history to be appreciated.

There's a flaw in that concept. It's nearly impossible to restore a vehicle when there are no parts available. Look at the cars the got crushed here..... intact, with everything from the glass to the tail lights..... all thrown away instead of being salvaged. Apparently, it costs more to disassemble cars and store the parts than it does to just mangle them into a heap of weight, then sell the weight.

I almost cried to see that beautiful Dodge Caravan get crushed. It could have been restored and driven.

@@raixrule6726 your missing the point in my last comment, titanium is comparably as strong as steel A lot of things are made from titanium, but there’s mostly always something like steel nails, screws, bolts that need to be added to keep things together and not fall apart, thus batteries can fit in the + and - slots and the metal coil will be supported carefully in the devices Lastly mineral prospects like coal, iron, zinc, copper are forged with each other to make all different kinds of things Iron and coal make steel, copper and zinc wires aren’t normally seen outside of a cable because their what’s needed to be tied together and added to things like a light fixture, to make a lightbulb turn on from friction

@@StickFiguresMaster it was about original comment. Many people think soda and beer cans are made of same material as cars but it's aluminum for cans. Most cars chassis and body panels are made of steel with exception of Audi's since the A8 originating from 1994. That was the point. Obviously cars have many materials that are recovered separately including other metals.

These cars would still be on the road today as is in 3rd world countries. We are so privileged here in America. Nobody keeps there car for 20 years or 200k miles anymore. It’s more like 36 months 15k miles.

The real all-star is the moving machine in all this. To lift that weight with what seemed like ease is cool. The hydraulic press is crazy too, in its own right. Rock on.
