This does work to some degree. While the zombies will crawl under, it won't be the entire horde, or at least, not all at once. You can use this to reduce how many zombies you have to deal with, making a horde much more manageable.

@@penguinplus1238 I think realistically that a zombie wouldn't know to lay down to go under a car. It shouldn't have any motor functions outside of eat and chase and the only one's that could crawl under a car would be the one's that cant stand.

totally true

I believe this still works in the case of placing a car flush against a window if I'm not wrong. This should prevent the zombie pathing because they're not able to stand up between the car and the window to begin smashing it.

Yes and no. They can still attack doors and barricades and walls and fences and such, they just can't climb through windows (which are oddly invincible unlike low fences)

This reminds me of a time many years ago when I was a kid playing a game call Mercenaries 2. I had a mission where I had to protect something I forget what exactly. But I surrounded it with cars thinking that I could use them to block enemies from shooting the thing I'm protecting only for those cars to explode in one big chain.

This used to work tho

TV are broken you can used it as protection because the zomboid consider as indestructible barrier.

Indeed, this worked time ago, but in an update they added "now some zombies can crawl under the cars" and also is an option when you are setting the world

That’s actually kind of cool I don’t think I’ve ever seen any other game where the enemies will crawl under cars to get to you if cars are in the way.

@@infiniteraide1642 that's why you'll need sacks (for growing plants on the floor/roof) and rain barrels to collect water. Also with some engineering you can possibly build near the water so fishing could be an option too.

The best barrier in my opinion is getting a truck and grabbing as much vending machines as possible u can use vending machines and road blocks to make a nearly indestructible wall

I build a Wall and secured it with crappy cars around it. But I was playing on a server and some people didn’t care that it was for safety (it was the worst cars I could find) and removed several cars only for me to die next I logged on.. was a shitty move

You remove the drivers seat from the car, then they can’t use it

You can turn of zombies crawling under cars or reduce the chance

You can also turn that off in the settings to make it easier. I don't have as much time to give to the game so making it a bit easier is always important for me. That's one thing I do like about this game it can be tailored for anyone's skill levels or wants.

Take the wheels off and they cant crawl underneath

Maybe flip a car's on the side. They wont crawl under.

Should've turned the vehicles on the side so the zombie wouldn't crawled underneath.

Cars can help with protection, just not right next to your entrance where you have no room to fight the zombies crawling under, and when you dont construct anything.

That loop caught me off guard.

There is a way to use cars to help barricade doors and windows. If you park them directly against the building in front of a barricaded window or door, they theoretically can't stand up between the car and the building to break through an opening you've barricaded with woof as well.

They can still break doors and barricades from underneath cars. They just can't crawl through windows

I’m pretty sure that this actually used to be true that it was an unbreakable barrier, but it was fixed in a later version

This is good for windows as they cannot crawl in that way, but until then, the best safety is always a rooftop base.

What about using a car with another obstacle behind? Like using a fridge, making it so the zombies have to go through the car and a fridge, I wonder what the zombies would do, and using only sheet ropes to access the base

if you're playing sandbox you can also choose how likely it is for a zombie to crawl under a car

One thing you can do currently is build crates and build fences on either side of them. The zombies pathfinding tells them they should climb over the fence, but they can't due to the crate. Normally, this would result in them climbing the fence and then crouching over the crate, but the second fence prevents this. So they will be stuck there confused about what to do. This does make for very bulky walls that take a long time to set up though, and your entrances can't be made similarly impenetrable. Best thing I could stab at would be to have some combo of a car and a gate.

I remember the days when cars _were_ invincible barriers. They patched in the crawling zombies not too long ago.

I use a car to block one entrance. They almost never crawl below it.

Actually it does work. You just have to build a wooden wall behind the car, so they can't crawl past it.

I think making it only crawlers can do it make most sense. A zombie would lack mental capacity to think about crawling on ground to reach the target.

You can block windows and doors by reversing a car up to it so that the trunk (or hood if you drive up forwards) is flush against it. They only seem to be able to crawl under from side to side, not lengthways.

Maybe you can put them along tall fences. So zombies can't get up from under the car and break the fence

Only one way to be safe is to stay in the car and stay near the wall

Always have an escape rope on the other side of the building

I remember I saw a KZreadr use the "Zombies Crawl Under Cars" thing to create a kill zone. Zombies would crawl under and he would bash their head in with a weapon.

An easy fix to zeds crawling under vehicles is to park either the front or back tire of the vehicle directly in front of whatever door that you're trying to barricade. As long as it's a single door, the tire will block even a crawling zed. I've been doing this to zed proof my base and it works.

Block the door with a single car, pressed against the door. Have your exit be on the second story with a sheet rope. (Have a spare in the building) If the sheet rope gets destroyed while you're inside the base, you can use the spare. If it gets destroyed while you're outisde, you can use the car entrance.

You can block entrances with burnt cars, they do work. But if you want to go through your barriers, place two low fences and a crate between them. You can climb through it, but zeds can't. Though they'll likely patch it soon

What about short fences in front of tall vehicles? The short fences block the bottom access the tall vehicles (armored cars, buses, station wagons, etc) blocks climbers. And the fences work as sort of a really tight garage.

I've also seen that if you put a car up next to a gate the zombies can kind of push each other into the car causing it to pop out of place.

I don't know if it still works but you used to be able to put up two cars right next to each other and sit on either one in the seats that are blocked by the other car. You could even start a fire and sit in the car for hours waiting for them burn out. Bonus point to use a police car and hit the sirens to gather more zombies.

I disable that feature. So only crawlers crawl.

The car barriers is still a great idea considering you have added time to react while they crawl underneath the cars.

fun fact: before idk how before but zombies couldn't crawl under car under any circonstence they just wouldn't crawl so that made vehicule barricade very op now they are not very good but now we got the crate fence barricade also you can turn off zombies crawling under car in the sandbox menu

I did that in the car junk yard (Riverside). I died, but those few zombies crawling, didn't stop crawling. I mean they didn't get up.

They didn’t crawl under the cars at one point. I think build 40 at first release? Then people were cheesing the prison and military base in rosewood with a car barrier. That still would’ve been nice to have…

Funny thing, it really work, you just need to make the car be very close to window and the doors, the zumbi cannot craw if there's a obstacle at the other side of the vehicle.

There is a option in the setings that will disable this walking below cars ,when you are on the menu search for it

Idea: make a car barrier like this but against a wall with no doors or windows, find a way to get all the zombies to follow you under the cars into the trapped spot, sacrifice yourself and respawn with the zombies trapped in there. Find another car for you to use, two friends quickly get in the two cars facing each other, reverse away from each other and your car speeds in crushing like 100 zombies at once

Not very realistic but zomboid devs are cooking so ill let them cook.

Actually it can be useful for combat. When they crawl it leavea them vunerable to a ground attack. Having your friends with you at a spot that forces zombies to go on the ground like a fences line or a car in a choke will make it impassable to an extent.

The only way is putting microwave on door

U can use TV for Doors and cars for Windows. Just put the car really close. If cant stand up. Cant jump the Window

I believe there should be a mod were if you remove the wheels of a car then the zeds cant go under em.

You can still block windows with vehicles, and zombies cannot do anything about it.

the way of making this work is making the server settings that zombies can not crawl, then you are golden

you could still use a car barrier to narrow the zombie entrance or they go under and take longer, it can work, not perfectly

It'll work in any spot where a zombie is required to mantle though. So if its against a window the zombie can't do anything unless it's a player built window
