Small series 6th orders are very impressive for their size, I made a tiny 4l per chamber with isobariked 5" drivers, rear tuned 50 front tuned 100, and it completely made up for isobarik being less efficient.

It just goes to show how much work a well designed box will do. I keep telling this to people that complain about the sound of their sub but they never listen. It's worth the extra cash to spring for a good box that'll last a long time.

Wow, always been impressed by the output of your boxes but this one is really on a new level! It would be super cool if you could make a video that dives down a bit more into the technicals of making a box. Like what you think about when choosing the enclosure type and how the dimensions are calculated. There really isn't too much of such on youtube already, especially when it comes to the lesser common box types than just basic 4th orders...

I also want to chime in on the 'how to design' list. I'd love a talk through of the how's and why's of your decisions on a design like this. There are programs out there to design a box, but they don't discuss the options and the tradeoffs/pro/cons. So yeah, I want to support the idea of videos like that. :)

I recently discovered a free German audio design software suite called Boxsim. I can't attest to the accuracy of the simulation results, but from the forums I've heard good things about it. Once you put in the T/S parameters and set up a simple Amp-to-Driver "Crossover Network" you can quickly try a bunch of different dimensions/volumes/tuning for the 5 basic enclosure types. In addition to the standard "Frequency Response" tab, I also like the "Max SPL" tab since the right half of the screen shows you the power limit for Xmax. Really cool software, search Boxsim V2.00 and you should find an English download.

Could easily scale this up by slicing it into more Tongue in groove sections for larger speakers. may take more separate prints and more sealant / glue but then you could really go crazy with filament colors. Love it and from the demo really shows the engineering work that goes into simple items like speakers.

When we tried FDM printing at work, we had a lot of issues getting models to stick to the table and not lift mid-print. Had to use PVA glue, kapton tape and whatnot. We concluded that an enclosed print volume is almost a must for the table to keep at temperature. Surprised to see you're getting such good adhesion right away on a such a large print in free air.

I printed this in PETG for automotive use but it had horrible resonance (30% infill). I ended up just printing the chamber divider and the 6th order port tube and JB welded that to the wood enclosure (matching volume etc). WOW is all I can say. The thing had a solid response from 40HZ to 80HZ that was thumping. Make sure your speakers can deliver from 70HZ up otherwise you will notice a gap. UPDATE: PETG is no good even with the wood being bonded to the PETG. I threw that PETG away and built it out of 3/4 inch birch. Much much better.

As I'm watching this a thought popped into my head: The ability to mix two filaments in one print head makes me think there should be no problem with a print head design that pushes a thick filament through a fine nozzle. That means such a design could reduce the surface area to mass ratio of the filament. Theoretically, you could use filament that starts out looking like a hot-melt glue stick. That should make moisture absorption more easily controllable.

Thanks for you'r great videos! Could you make a more technical video on what tools you use to design such an enclosure. Also how you factor in the given surronding like a car or a specific room. You mentioned how important the surrounding is in your "A Link In The Chain" video but i can't wrap my head around how to measure and include the transfer function in the design process.

Love the project. You mentioned you might print this in PETG to get around the hot car issue. If you do end up printing in PETG consider enclosing the printer in some way. Printing tall thin structures like the enclosure will likely result in layer separation. A heated chamber will reduce the chances of that and annealing the print after can relieve internal stresses.

My printers build volume isnt big enough. I could scale it down to fit a 5" sub but I'm not sure how the acoustics of the enclosure will be affected with the size change

If only we had this technology and knowledge back in the '90s in South Florida. With our simple box enclosures, we needed 12"s, 15"s and 18"s woofers to get decent bass response. Mosrtly you just took the back seats out, and shoved a huge homemaid box in there.

For your 3D printed transmission line, how did you decide on the chamber volume? Where can I find the formula or the design software for that?

Awesome.. It gave me an idea for a mini subwoofer on my car. I want to fill the lower bass but not to the point to turning heads, just for me. Thanks
