Watch Part II here: • Capture One Pro Basics...
In this series, RMSP instructor Jeff McLain discussing taking an image to Adobe Photoshop and back to Capture One, the ins-and-outs of Edit With and Open With, applying settings from one image to another, and exporting an image in two different formats at once.
Capture One Pro offers advantages of working with Photoshop that are tidy and seamless, including the ability to move your image from Capture One Pro to Photoshop and then back to Capture One Pro with layers intact, make additional edits in Capture One Pro and then take the image back to Photoshop again while preserving all the layers as well as the work done in Capture One Pro the second round.
Capture One Pro also allows for easy syncing of singular or multiple adjustments across batches of images, as well as a more-automated workflow for processing images out into different file formats, color space and pixel dimensions with one click of a button.

Amazing tutorials on C1 workflow and straight to the point. I have watched a few other so called experts and they just get carried away and start creating Albums, sub folders and copy and paste images into sessions. Thank you, I have learned so much.

Great stuff; it's been really useful. I hope there will be more Capture One specific videos in the same vein. I haven't seen anyone else deal with the organisational issues so well.

This series was great! I was somewhat intimidated with the program and had actually stopped trying to figure it out..Your 3 lessons has convinced me to try it again..I always thought that my Sony gear seemed to have better colors in my Capture One Pro for Sony..Very excited to give it another shot now that I feel comfortable with the program..Hope to make it over to one of your classes in MT as I live in Coeur d'Alene, ID...Thx again!!

Hello, I am new to photo editing, not just Capture One. I've watched several tutorials for LR, PS, C1, and a few others which helped me decide on purchasing C1. The one thing I haven't seen explained with C1 is how the edited file is saved, I might have missed it in one of the videos but I want to make sure that while saving an edit, I'm not overwriting the original raw image. Could you please explain that process be it automatic with all edits or is there a command you have to activate like "file", "save edit", etc? Thank you for the great videos for us beginners, they're very helpful.

Hi Doug, the adjustments you make to a photo in C1Pro are saved in a separate settings folder inside the Capture folder - therefore, your Raw images remain unchanged. In a Catalog workflow, the settings are saved in the Catalog file, nested within. In both cases, your Raw files are safe and untouched. It only the software making the change and referencing the Raw on disk. Just like in Lightroom. You could take your same Raw file and move it to another program and it won't take the C1Pro work with it, it would be the Raw file only. However, C1Pro also offers the option to "Pack as EIP" which bakes the settings to the Raw file (akin to a DNG file). Where this is helpful is if you are in a multiple computer workflow. One user does a bunch of work in C1Pro on the file, they pack it as EIP, hand it off to another person to open up on another machine: all the C1Pro work is there to adjust. But EIPs are not readable by LR, so it's proprietary to Capture One workflows. It's not necessary to use EIPs with C1Pro, it's just an option for those that need it. There is no File>Save process needed to save your moves, it's all written to the Catalog or the Session settings files. Non-destructive editing!

Question. With the capabilities of C1, why would I need to send an image to Photoshop and then back to C1? Thanks for these beginner videos. They are very helpful.

Photoshop does still have some features that don't exist in LR or C1Pro. As the years go on, that gap is slowly getting smaller though!
