Hey man, Just recently made the switch from lightroom to capture one. As a hobby photographer the adobe subscription does not work for me, to help the transition i was looking for some videos on youtube. most of them are hour long. glad to see you are making a series to help us understand the programme and excel in it. Just wanted to show my gratitude and hit that subscription!

Out of curiosity, what features do you use frequently in Capture one that you would miss going without if you moved back to LR?
Impressive. Creative people are so lucky nowadays, having a variety of choice, regarding quality tools. Looking forward to your next episode.
C1 rules. I use it since version 6, I can't imagine to work in a different way. Live view and tethering are a godsend :D
Glad to see you're doing a series on C1. I've used it since I got my a7, but know I'm missing a lot. Looking forward to the coming videos!
I'm really looking forward to the series! I have been using all of the major photo editors but keep on going back to Capture One. The results are always far better. I find that I trip a over the nuances of Capture One. This is why I am so interested in what Ted will be doing -- he has a way of making what he talks about so much more simple.
Great Video, hearing the thoughts behind the edit are very helpful. Looking forward to the series.
Clarification of the versions. Capture One Express is a cut down free version for Fujifilm and Sony. There is also Capture One Pro for Fujifilm and Sony and Capture One Pro for all cameras.
Thanks Ted. I tried Luminar and Lightroom but settled on Capture One because for me it seemed to be the easiest to use. I don't do much in post processing, but the little I do is right at my fingertips. I do use Sessions rather than Catalogs; that system seems to work better for me. I'm looking forward to your additional videos on Capture One. I'm a slow learner when it comes to technology, so being able to reference back to your videos is a huge help. Thanks again, man!
Thank you for starting this series. I'm a Capture One user, and I'll be looking forward to seeing how you work with the program. One thought on what you said. I do travel photography, and I use Sessions instead of Catalogs for this reason. Assume your entire collection is saved in one Catalog. That file will become massive, and every time you make the slightest change to any individual photo in that catalog, the file will be marked as having changed. I use Time Machine to backup my computer on an external drive. Even the slightest change will change that huge file, and Time Machine will back up yet another copy of it. Because catalogs are so huge, your backup drive will quickly fill up ... at least that's what I understand. By working with Sessions, you are working with smaller, more manageable files - and saving an incredible amount of backup space.
Thanks! Started using C1 a few months ago, have found it mostly intuitive, but do need help. Looking forward to this series!
Thanks for making it. I've bought C1 probably watching your earlier video but I was looking for something like this series. Thanks again. Looking forward to it.
Thank you. I just switched over last summer and am loving it. I wish Capture One success.
Thanks for starting this series Ted. I love your videos.
Thanks for the upcoming series. I’ve adopted C1 for my Fujifilm files. Worthwhile to learn and I have more to learn.
Cool video and perfect timing as I plan to test it for my Fuji files 👌🏻
Thank you Ted! Just the video I needed. Looking forward to future capture one videos 👌
Wondering about your mobile work flow - you’ve talked about Lightroom mobile syncing, Gnarbox and now C1. If you start editing in Lightroom on iPad how do you integrate with C1?
Great video Ted! You are one of my favorite you tubers!
I love C1, it’s great to see more content for it instead of the usual Lightroom stuff 👍
Great video, clear and simple, waiting for the next episodes!
As a Fuji user (and Capture One Fuji owner) I've been really trying to make the move over from lightroom. Hopefully your vids will tip the scale. Following this.
Cool to hear you're going to do a whole series on Capture One. It's a great photo editor, and I'm very happy with it. Two things I'd like to see you cover: 1. The use of Luma Range. 2. Soft proofing for print. Thanks!
just messed up an export(the jpegs came out at 30 mb each), and then voila you showed me the perfect time saving wayto crunch them down at the end of the video, thanks. Great video as always
Awesome idea and video! I will be waiting for the videos on Capture One because I have just started using the program and I like the way you explain it! Thanks so much!
Dude you are the man. Your videos are so helpful. I hope you know how much we appreciate you !
This is what I was looking for, I switched to C1, Since I started shooting on Fujifilm. Thank you for this video very helpful.!!
Well done! Interesting that Fuji has their film profiles available in the RAW editing pathway. Keep up the excellent work. I look forward to additional videos.
Thanks Ted, looking forward to more. I need to know how to do some preliminary “bulk” editing. Thanks
Been wanting to try capture one for a while now !
You've finally got me to give it a more serious try.
Hi Ted, Thank you For this video. I a.m gong to purchase C1 Pro so your new series will be great, Thank you so much.
First, thank you for doing this, much appreciated. I really enjoyed this initial video, and as a result just picked up the Pro version, as I recently switched from Fuji to Sony. I would find it very helpful for step by step instructions how to import my Lightroom library into C1 (my photo images reside in an external hard drive connected to a MacBook Pro. My plan is to maintain my CC subscription while learning C1.
Very happy that you are doing these videos. I've been using C1 Pro for over a year and still like to see what I don't know I don't know. Vids on layers, masking, soft proofing for output would be nice.
Hi Ted could you cover printing. I'm not sure if it is the best option to use capture 1 or is it preferable to report an image and print in Photoshop?
Great start to what should be another excellent series thanks Ted!🇬🇧🇨🇦🇬🇧
if i use the fujifilm version can i import film scan i also shoot??
Ted, thx for doing this, if you don't mind I like to have a short one about how to turn Sessions into Catalogs.
I do like it. Keep theme coming.
Great! I'm using Capture One Pro 12 for Sony. Can't wait for your upcoming videos ~
Well this is exciting. I've been interested in Capture One but am one of those who is a bit intimidated by it. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Nice clean staring point👍 Question related to part one Can you backup/copy the catalogue to another off machine location or separate drive ? I have on two or three occasions needed to point to a copy in early Lightroom 3. Thanks Ted
Great timing, I have less than a month left on my Adobe subscription. I've been trying alternatives the past several weeks.
Looking forward to the series.
Thanks. Looking forward to these. Already paid off, I had l “lost” the base characteristics panel you showed. Newer user so didn’t realize it and couldn’t remember what it was called and was frustrated. Still could do the base stuff I wanted but how stupid do I feel.
excellent, cool education and dispelled myths, TY
How do you export more than one image? I seem to only do 1 at a time now that I know you can do the batch export
@seanbirtwistle649

just make sure you have the ones you want to export selected when doing more than one
Thank me for clarifying the Catalogs vs Sessions. This for me was very confusing at the beginning.
Became a super fan of Capture One when Adobe started the subscriptions..made the switch and never looked back..love this program. Like adobe the longer you stick with the program the better you will become. Make the jump and you’ll never regret it.
Im a Fuji Shooter. Looking forward to the series, as I have stopped using Lr . Can you touch on round trip editing using affinity photo. As I do miss the pano stitching that Lr has. Thanks
HI, love your work! I would like to know how to prep a file to export into Photoshop CC2019. I use Lightroom Classic as the prep, then finish with Photoshop. I've never used Capture One so I'm looking forward to these vids. Thanks!
Love it! Would greatly appreciate understanding the difference between sessions and catalogs and how to use them in different situations.
Great video Ted. I started my photography journey two years ago this coming Christmas. I bought C1 and subscribed to Adobe at the same time. I was a newbie on both platforms. I think I opened Adobe a half dozen times. C1 was just more intuitive to me and (although C1 tends to sharpen the initial RAW more than Lightroom) I was always so much more impressed with the initial file. C1 has some great tutorials online. The manipulation of color in C1 is astounding. I love that I can buy it and it belongs to me, rather than leasing it from Adobe. I don't think I save that much money (I keep updating C1 every year because of great new functionality (ie Luminosity masking)), but owning the software makes more sense to me, especially if times get hard. With a lease, you will be shut out as soon as you cancel. Looking forward to future videos on C1!
Ted, I use Capture One Express for Fuji occasionally but still use Lightroom and Photoshop more. I like the results from Capture One better sometimes, but struggle with local adjustments, so I'm really interested in the masking feature. I think this will be an excellent series and I'm looking forward to it very much. Thanks!
Interesting! I started using Capture One BEFORE they implemented Catalogs and didn't use it for long because of that... I think these videos will get me back up to speed with what other software can do better than Adobe!
Thanks, Ted. Been using C1 for a little over a year and love it. Lately, I started using my Fuji X-T3 with a vintage PENTACON bellows & slide copying kit. While I found some decent techniques to convert both BW and color negatives after importing them into C1 (which I saved as user styles), I would love to get your input on working with digitized analog negatives in this great program.
Hey Ted, Loving your channel. You and it are why I downloaded Capture One and have been happily diving into it for the past week. I'm just starting out as a headshot photographer in L.A., and I'd love it if you did a walkthrough of shooting tethered, setting up any presets to automatically adjust the image as it comes in, and any editing you'd do in post. Thanks again for the awesome channel.
I switched to Capture One a while back and never looked back. The learning curve in my opinion was not that bad. Phase One has some great videos to help you understand the interface and once you start going, you begin to realize that it works very well and in my opinion is much better than LR.
Is there an easy way to copy my presets from Lightroom to Capture One?
Hey Ted! Great video and glad you're going to be diving deeper into the capabilities of Capture One. A closer look into the organization of files and related metadata would be awesome. Also - and this may not be 100% related to the C1 thread is what do you do when you shoot Hasselblad (X1D or other) and the files are incompatible? As always - love the vlog! Thanks for your contributions.
Does Capture 1 have function that highlights the dust spots on your photo for ease of editing?
Would love a session on the colour wheels. How to use them to correct colours, not make wild colour changes. EG my Nikon’s usually have yellow biased greens and need to be corrected in Capture 1 - works ok in other editors. I have made custom camera profiles for use in Capture that do help significantly. Also, if you have a line to Phase, how do we create shortcut keys to edit in photoshop and open in photoshop. The edit in was available a few versions ago but has been taken away. The open in has never had short cut key ability. This is a major announce for round tripping into photoshop. Can only do it via menus.
Very well done! Thank you!
I'm currently a Lightroom user and have been looking at Capture One. One thing I'm concerned with is how C1 does and organizes photos in is catalogs. Does it for any organizing of where files are stored on the drive or is it tamper free with those and just saves edits in the catalog? I'm concerned that if I make the editor switch I'll mess up how I'm currently storing files on disk. Thanks.
Excelent information and video, sure shows how good you are as a Teacher Ted Forbes! Funny, I remember when one of the options we had in the earlier Image Manipulation Programs was White Balance and how that will alter the look or Color in general of an image. Fastforward to now and many color specifics of Films(like FUJI)are part of the editing process. Very exciting times we live in, thanks for sharing so much through your channel Ted Forbes!
Hi Ted, I'm using C1 for my Fuji output, but also film scans. I'd be interested to see how you'd manage/process scans in c1?

Nice video, Ted. Looking forward the new ones. One suggestion, though. Would you consider the video about inverting C-41 negatives in C1?
Good one!
I'm very happy with C1, which is a great addition to my Fuji camera. I will be interesting about your serie of videos - ready to follow them. Details section, color balance wheels and jpg export options depending on screen or printing will be some subjects I would like to discover more. Thanks for your videos!
Sessions all the way, jpg outputs to Apple Photos. Love C1!
heya ted. can you do a video on color negative reversal and the 35mm film digitization process using capture one? preferably on aps-c fuji? thanks for your consideration. 📷💓
I wish I can really say what I want to say. But because it is a public form. I will say thank you and I cant wait to see all the videos you are getting ready to do!!!!!!
Can you do onone it just release 2020 version?
Color Grading on C1... and what's more effective to run C1 faster. Using Catalogs or using Sessions?
Can you do batch rating? I can't find how to rate a batch of photos, I always have to rate them individually? thank you
Hi liove he channel especially the history and documentaries of photographers. I used to shoot alot on film but left the hobby. Just started to get involved with digital. I'm a little overwhelmed with how I should be processing my raw files. Since I'm a newbie with digital I dont know which way yo go Lr or capture. Is there any info on walking through the workflow with both programs? A little overwhelming! Lol
Detailing the printing process would be nice!! Fine art stuff; ICC profiles, etc.

great vid thanks mate
This is really helpful, please make one on layers, overlays and watermarks.
Perfect timing Ted! Just got out of that ridiculously priced cloud and bought Capture One 12 instead. I wish for a tutorial on the equivalent of LR brush-tool which I have used to make eyes pop and for dodging and burning. And one on skin retouching, if possible. Really looking forward to this C1 series! /Filip from Sweden

@Filip Svensson, Adobe Photographer plan is $9.99/month USD, CaptureOne is $24/month almost 2.5x month. You have to buy a year at a time to get it just under 2x as much. Is Capture One twice as good?
Hi Ted, Long time LR user and considering the switch over to Capture 1. All of my imagery is completely organized from top to bottom using collections and metadata(keywording, geo-tagging, the works). I would love to know your thoughts on conversion of the entire library to C1 and perhaps the best method, and of course any tricks to smooth the process. I'm aware that many of the lightroom edits wont transfer which is what it is. I regularly do pano-stitching and while Capture one doesn't have it at the moment, curious if you have any recommendations for other stitching software the could couple with C1 that outputs a RAW or DNG option. Thank you for all the time and great content.
It did not look in the interface that they had a 16bit TIFF output format. Was this just hidden?
how to do a Palladium and platinum toned b&W image
Really curious about this over Lightroom , I think it would fit my workflow better. Any idea if they're ever going to do a mobile version, I do most of my stuff from mobile workflow ?
Very informative video. Hope to se more of capture one 12 content.
I did not know I could access the Fujifilm profiles in C1. Mind. Blown. Good video!

New to photo editing and C1. Can anyone recommend a useful reference or references for editing fundamentals?
Hey Ted! Can you do a video on Phocus? I wonder how people use it in their workflow?
How do you export or edit-in Photoshop. I would like to continue editing in PS, maybe send a few photos to open as layers in PS. This is something that is easy to do in LR.
@ianyorke2617
4 жыл бұрын
Simple. Right click on the image and choose "edit with" and select PS. Creates a Tif or PSD next to your original photo.
How are you integrating the iPad intoxicating Capture One workflow?
Believe I heard that LR catalogs WITH EDITS can now be imported into C1? Would love to tutorial on that. I have 100k+ RAW images, and would hope to import the original files with LR corrections applied as C1 [non-destructive] edits. Also, does C1 support JPG images now? Think it used not to. Thanks!
what about the medium format Hasselblad files? Why Fuji Gfx and not Hasselblad? That's my problem..
How many photos can c1 hold in one single catalog? I googled, someone said not many. As a pro, how many do you store in your catalog?
Advanced editing would be really nice! i've already settled with a way of working with my images and finding a better way to work in Capture one would be great!
Awesome, thank you!
Can Capture work as an extension to Apple Photos?
Well, I've downloaded Capture 21 trial version and it looks a little different than this older version but I have a much bigger problem. I'm trying to do all of my work on an external LaCie which had the unique problem of not showing up in the normal tree of options (the 3 dots) but instead off to the sidebar menu. It took me about an HOUR to figure that one out. Why it's not showing up as an icon within the desktop folder is mind boggling. After solving that issue, CO won't load any images from the destination folder except... a mistaken snippet of video! No JPEGS or RAW files at all despite definitely being in the folder. I'm already into the 2nd week of trial mode and honestly, I may be looking to a more intuitive program. TBC...
C1 seems to get more out of the Fuji raw files, not just in terms of sharpness, but dynamic range, recovery, tones, transitions etc. Looking forward to seeing this series...

Yes. I just bought an x-t3 and the files looked horrible in LR. Epecially the sharpening. After some searching around I found and tried Cap One and was blown away. So much so I bought the Pro version to use with my Canon files. I'm not pleased at all with Cap One and the Canon files. To my eye the RAW conversion looks awful compared to LR. I'm new to Cap One so I'm probably doing something wrong as most people seem to love Cap One. I'll just have to research it a bit more. Perhaps it's a matter of building a custom icc profile?

@@raylotier Haven't used it for Canon files, but I'm sure each camera brand/sensor requires different defaults and approaches. Maybe check on the base characteristics/curve drop down menu, or lens profile drop down to make sure it's picking up your exif data

@@tjkrueger2655 Yeah, thanks. I'm a complete noob to Capture One so there is a learning curve but so far I do like it. Watching Ted's video here, he explains that the linear curve is the flat raw profile. I'll play around with that.
are there batch editing functions on C1, like sync settings in Lr?
@ianyorke2617

Yes, C1 sticks to the more common PS based way for most things, so generally it is just a case of a normal two step copy and paste or a one step copy and apply.
