Captivity Years: Tsarskoe Selo | Romanov Family Photo Albums | No 8

Tsar Nicholas II abdicated the throne of Russia on 2 March 1917. Thirteen days later, he returned to the Alexander Palace not as Emperor of Russia, but as Colonel Romanov. The Imperial Family were now held under house arrest and confined to a few rooms of the palace and watched over by a guard with fixed bayonets. The regime of their captivity, worked out by Alexander Kerensky himself, envisaged strict limitations in the life of the Imperial Family: an isolation from the outer world, a guard during their promenades in the park, prohibition of any contacts and correspondence apart from approved letters. Pierre Gillard noted:
"In their spare time, free from studies, the Empress and her daughters were engaged in sewing something, embroidering or weaving, but they were never idle. During daytime walks all the members of the family, excluding the Empress, were engaged in physical work: they cleaned paths in the park from snow, chopped ice for the cellar, cut dry branches or old trees, storing firewood for the future winter. With the arrival of the warmer weather the entire family worked on an extensive kitchen-garden."
Due to an increasingly precarious situation in St. Petersburg, the leader of the provisional government, Alexander Kerensky, made the decision to move the Romanov family out of the palace into internal exile in Tobolsk in faraway Siberia. There had been calls for the prisoners to be housed in the prison at the notorious Fortress of St. Peter and St. Paul in St. Petersburg. To avoid this on the morning of 1 August 1917, a train took the family away. They were never to return.

In these days of universal confinement and seclusion, due to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) threat, let us remember this family that was kept incarcerated by another lethal enemy until they finally met their death, not in a bed of illness but in the most horrible and brutal way! So, let us, therefore, be inspired by their loving example, by how they found joy in one another, and see that they were able to transform even the worst misfortune to a most bright occasion to enjoy life happily and give thanks to God for all things!

Ya i think so too.Why were they not allowed to live a normal life. They were a very very humble human being. They just wanted to spend time with one another and were not ready for the demands and challenges of royal protocols and public appearences. They are simple people and their childten are so innocent.Despite the people of Russia's accusing the family of lack of support yet the girls are so sweet make gifts for the people. Its a nightmate to see how this family was shot by some cold blooded animals.Poor girls how they clung to each filled with horror and little alexie how he clung tight to the Tsar when the guns were ready to be fired.Oh my God its horror just horror.

I can see the pain in the faces of the Royal Family it breaks my heart. I can also see that they loved each other very much. They had no idea what was going to happen.. How could they do this... Heartless animals is what they were, they did NOT have to kill them. Power and control over Russia it was a sin in the eyes of God... I am very pleased with what these pictures represent a loving family who put their trust in God they never failed each other, what a great love.💔😢 🌹💗💖. Well, time stood still for them when they were killed. The years that passed can't diminish the atrocities that were their captivity and brutal murder. Also, all Romanov family members were murdered that weren't in hiding or exile, including Mikhail, the brother of Nicholas. His body was never found. All tragedy.

All these Pictures shows proof the family and the Tsar were humble people. Their faith kept the family together. One can clearly acknowledge this in their captivity. Their letters also show this. I sense they all knew that their time was short. Thus, their faith in God carry them through together. The Bolsheviks murdered their bodies and life on this Earth, but deceit can not be hidden or prevail. The Romanov legacy Lives forever. Rest in Peace in God's Paradise. Amen.

All these pictures show proof that Bolsheviks respected the family as long as the negotiations for their deportation failed when the European monarchies did not want to take care of them. In none of those photos you see the Romanovs being afraid of their guards. The details of the execution are known to no one except the executioners themselves. Those all are stories that no one can prove if they were true or not.

One of his relatives went to America to fight against Hitler didn't you know. It was one of Hitler's nephews I think that went to America. We can't blame Hitler's descendants but we must blame Hitler who was just as bad as those who killed The Tsar, his wife, his four daughters, his son, the doctor who was caring for The Tsar's son, their four servants, their dog and the youngest son heir to the thrown's cat. May they all rest in peace forever more for eternity knowing that the people who murdered them were murdered too and are now suffering in hell for eternity. Nicholas’ cousin George V of England was asked to take the family to England . George refused because he feared that the British throne would be jeopardized . George was a coward . Governments based upon aristocracies and monarchies had become obsolete and Nicholas used poor judgement by NOT welcoming a democratic government . But , there was no need to murder that family, especially the children . Nicholas had poor military and government capabilities which was unfortunate .

Hi, Ann. Please remember that Nicholas II was the first and only constitutional monarch of Russia. Before the First World War, Russia had succeeded in reaching all her economic goals, which were set in the series of a large scale of reforms planned by Prime Minister P. Stolypin and Tsar Nicholas II. In 1913 the annual growth of agricultural production in Russia was first in the world, the annual growth in its industrial productivity was also first in the world, the population growth was first in Europe, and the annual national revenue was sixth in the world.

George V could not save the Tsar and his family. It would have been impossible to get them put of Russia under the circumstances of revolution. Besides... King George couldn’t grant asylum, it was the government. A Constitutional Monarch does not have power.

They are royals who might be hated by the Russians but in the end, they are just ordinary people with the ability to speak, eat, sleep, walk, think, just like how we are. They are a human being too. They never deserve to die in such cruel, barbaric, and tragic way. I'm glad their bodies were found and are now in safe place resting together. May you all rest in peace. Question for the poster: do you know who took these photographs? The title of your video suggests it was a family member, but is this case? I notice that in a lot of them, the photographer is choosing to show them either being guarded by armed men or appearing to work at hard labor in the area around the house. This would seem to imply that at least for some of the photos, a revolutionary was the photographer, perhaps trying to use the images to "prove" that the Romanovs were subdued. Just a theory.

Probably this picture was taken by Maria, who is the only one missing from the photo. Many pictures were also taken by the Swiss tutor, Pierre Gilliard and other close friends as Countess Anastasia Hendrikova (the girl on the left edge of the photo) etc. We hope you enjoy our videos! Congratulations. Excellent pictures. Do not forget that This family was cruelly assassinated by the communist dictatorship established in Russia, by a coup, planned, organized and directed by the founding leader that totalitarian ideology and self-authored political organization Communist Party, until today existing worldwide: Lenin. But in addition to that ideological motivation, Lenin was another personal nature, to order the massacre of this family and the death of all the Romanovs who managed to kidnap: he wanted revenge the execution of his brother a terrorist anarchist convicted 30 years earlier by the courts of justice for the attempted murder of Tsar Alexander III, his father. History confirms that those responsible for this massacre are: Lenin who ordered it; Sverdlov (member of the Central Committee and "right hand" of that one) who transmitted that decision and organized the multiple assassination and Yurovsky (one of the leaders of the Cheka: the Communist Political Police) who he was the one who commanded (and participated directly) the group of Latvian militiamen who carried out the massacre.

I'm french and a republican but I am so ashamed of what happened to Louis XVI and his family. The children at least should have lived, officially abdicated and leave for another country, to live their lives. What's ironic is that both Louis XVI and the Tsar weren't THAT interested in being kings, their wives were more ambitious, their marriages were loving ones, they were both faithful to their wives, and they loved their children as children, not as "heirs". And they both met a similar end. That's so tragic. When I watch the pictures of the Romanov children, I only think it's a crime, they were injust victims of a crime. Sure, it's easy to say that from the year 2020, but killing children as revenge? It's horrible. Because at this point, it was hatred and revenge against the Romanov lineage, not justice. Abdication, freedom to live their own lives in the States, for example, would have been a better life for the children. And in their last year of captivity, the girls proved they could work and take care of themselves after an entire life of privilege and isolation from the world. They could have lived a full life not being royalty.
