Every time I watch this scene, I always think how hard it was for Captain Blue to attack his friend and fellow officer Captain Scarlet. He gave him a chance to surrender, but the Mysteron hold on Scarlet was too strong, giving Blue no other alternative. However after causing Scarlet to fall 800 feet to the ground, he helped free him from the Mysteron control. I think Blue was a loyal friend to the very end.

We had Captain Scarlet in America in the late 60's\early 70's and I started watching when I was 5 in 1969. I recently found it on Tubi TV and 50 years later I'm right back with our favorite indestructible retro-metabolized Spectrum agent. I feel like a day never went by! And yes, to your point, the show DID have a great sense of peril and some extreme situations that set it apart from your typical TV show, which is what made it so good.

It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in anything. It's just a flat platform elevated 1000s of feet into the air for no reason, so people can park their cars up there (but not go back down). Maybe it's for all the suicides in the future. You can pay to drive up there and then jump off. Suicide Tower.

Ahhh the Spectrum helicopter, such an underated vehicle which didn't have much screen time throughout the show's time.😢😢🚁🚁 It was my favourite vehicle of the Spectrum vehicle arsenal in Captain Scarlet along with the Angel Interceptor as my No.2 vehicle.😍😍 Shame on how it was introduced to being used and controlled by The Mysterons in this episode, I was really hoping it would help both Captain Blue and The Angels stop a Mysteron controlled Captain Scarlet but instead it was used to try and kill Captain Blue plus it had to be shot down by Destiny Angel just like that. When I first saw this episode, I was like "NOOOO, WHY DESTINY, WHY DO YOU DO IT?!!!"😂😂😂 Still however I loved Captain Scarlet and Thunderbirds growing up back then as a boy, My 2 all time favourite Gerry Anderson TV Series. This iconic clip of the first episode of Captain Scarlet brings back such memories.

One of the greatest trick shots ever! One might be tempted to say "Look Ma! No strings attached!"! For, if things are pulled along on strings, then how does the little tank go up the spiral ramp at the start? And how does Captain Blue go under the overhang of the building at 2:03 if he's a puppet on a string? Answers: 1 - The vehicle isn't moving it's just held in place with strings at the front and back; the tower and the tower and the background are moving! The tower's being screwed into the ground. 2 - This whole sequence is shot upside-down! The strings are attached to his shoes!

Utterly brilliant tv show which has stood the test of time. Up there with "The Prisoner" for sheer iconic status. Just finished the box set and couldn't believe how dark it was. Back in the 1960s, nobody batted an eyelid over its' extreme violence. The only kids' show to have a suicide bomber in the opening episode beggars belief, that scene could never happen in a modern children's' show today. As for Captain Black, the template for Darth Vader. A certain QT used the colour coding for "Reservoir Dogs". A classic.

A lot of puppets in the shows were modelled on actors from the time. Scarlet is Cary Grant, Black is Robert Mitchum, Scott Tracy was a young John Wayne and Marina was Ursula Andress.
