Alan Silvestri's score is still the theme I associate with the character of Captain America, but it is a time locked theme associated with the greatest generation. It belongs in World War II. Henry Jackman's score instead focuses on the murky world of modern espionage and its moral grays. But even with those darker notes, you can sense the moral ideals of Steve Roger rising above that gray. Great score for the movie and Cap in a modern era.

Cap's always been more of a pacifist than a war-monger. He's more about the ideals of the country and upholding them in a fair and honest way, and he's basically the representation of the ideals of the peace-keeping world at large. He's a can-do soldier, but he doesn't fight without a good reason and that reason is to protect EVERYONE, American or otherwise, from something as large as a global threat to something as small as a child who'd be too small to defend themselves.

I thought…I thought if I could stop the templars-if I could keep the Revolution free from their influence-that those I supported would do what was right. They did-I suppose-do what was right… What was right for them. As for you, Father: I thought I might unite us, that we would forget the past and forge a better future. In time I believed you could be made to see the world as I did; to understand…but it was just a dream. This too, I should have known. Were we not meant to live in peace, then? Is that it? Are we born to argue? To fight? So many voices, each demanding something else… It has been hard at times, but never harder than today to see all I worked for; perverted, discarded, forgotten! You would say I have described the whole of history, Father. Are you smiling, then? Hoping I might speak the words you long to hear? To validate you? To say that all along, you were right? I will not. Even now, faced as I am with the truth of your cold words, I refuse, because I believe things can still change. I may never succeed-the Assassin's may struggle another thousand years in vain-but we will not stop! Compromise. That is what everyone has insisted upon. And so I have learned it. But differently than most, I think… I realize now that it will take time; that the road ahead is long, and shrouded in darkness. It is a road that will not always take me where I wish to go, and I doubt I will live to see its end. But I will travel down it nonetheless. For at my side walks hope. In the face of all that insists I turn back, I carry on. This… This is my compromise." -Ratonhnhaké:ton/Connor

+Akis PeLcineMa Henry Jackman, the composer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, will return to score the sequel. Jackman noted that the industrial elements of the track "The Winter Soldier" from the previous film's soundtrack was a good indication of what the soundtrack to Civil War would sound like, though he cautioned it was "just a jumping off point since the Russos are looking for something new - similar with a twist." That movie was my favorite from the MCU until Age of Ultron came out. For one simple reason: HYDRA's plot was so reminiscent of the current situation it scared the hell out of me. _"HYDRA created a world so chaotic that humanity is finally ready to sacrifice its freedom to gain its security."_ I was shocked by the similarity between the movie's plot and the real world's current state. TWS's overarching theme was standing for what's right regardless of what or who you have to fight; taking a stand, which makes the credits score all the more relevant. And the music itself seems to carry this ideal.

I'm not going to call this the very best superhero theme ever, but it does it's intended purposes better than a lot of others. It's very dramatic, bittersweet, sorrowful even. The entire movie destroys everything that Cap' thought he knew. S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra, conspiracy, Bucky, the entire film was just an unrelenting psychological assault on him and this track does an excellent job of telling that

+dominique eure One thing I think Marvel hasn't done right is making sure their scores are memorable and consistent across their franchises. Yes, some scores do better than others, but generally they're not built up as they should -- themes are just as important to establishing characters and iconic as the costumes, etc.

  • @chocofro3

+Rafael Reis They've started to. The problem is that they are trying to find a distinctive theme now in Phase 2. Disregarding everything from phase 1 and honestly apart from Caps new theme the Phase 1 themes were better. Imo Brian Tyler isn't as good a composer as any of the previous ones. I don't understand why Marvel is trying to make him their main dude now. Thank god Henry Jackman did Winter Soldier and Tyler Bates did GOTG.

BigTalon256 I don't think The First Avenger theme fits Cap in now when he has settled into modern times and wouldn't have fit the story of Winter Soldier. First Avenger has this sense pure of hope, heorism, idealism and positivity. Cap in the modern age is about a man realising his ideals no longer holds true, in an age of espionage, conspiracy and blurry lines. So Jackmans theme fits much better.
