If you listen close, you can tell its his scream. And what does that tell you? That no matter when, where, or what the Winter Soldier was doing, Bucky was always there, in the background, locked away. Screaming.

***** I don't think so.....the guy doesn't e1 know what and why he is doing things.....in the comics at some point he realizes this and switches over to the good side and after Steve Roger's death he becomes the new Captain America on Stark's advice. Hopefully this happens in the movies too....the end credits scene in the movie suggested something like that.

The Winter Soldier was so goddamn amazing. He was terrifying in his ferocity. He had no sense of self-preservation. He was like a juggernaut, a freight train--he came after you with intensity, with complete focus, with manic energy. He had no magic hammer, no flying suit, no alternate forms----he was just like, a silent menace. Everything about him said menace, even though he had hardly any lines. And yet, when he's not being directed, he was docile, childlike vulnerable. It all came down to that moment when Pierce had no fear in striking him across the face. The Winter Soldier could kill Pierce in fifteen different ways--just with his hands. But he was so broken, so controlled, so much a tool--that Pierce didn't fear him. That is the real tragedy of the Winter Soldier. He was no villain--he was a tool. He was broken down until hardly anything remained. Nothing mattered until given a directive. No choices. No emotions. Numb. Imagining the terrors, horrors, miseries, he must have endured at the hands of Hydra is sickening. Until one day, on a broken highway, a man he used to know said a name he used to be. And that name held so much meaning that it couldn't be completely wiped away but buried deep to protect it. His one last remaining lighthouse, hidden in the fog. Until his best friend managed to light the lamp. And even when they wiped him again and started over---and we see his terror of the chair but his helplessness to obey and allow them to scramble him again--all it took was that name. Uttered by that guy. And it widened the crack. And in the end, he may not even have understood the compulsion--but he dove after Cap into the river and pulled him out. And then, in his confusion, left him there. It's almost just as heartwrenching when he goes to the museum and reads about his own life long after it happened. Not to mention that "man on the bridge" who said the one thing that could pull him out of the Winter Soldier's shell. And he will eventually have to come to terms with the things he's done. Like Bruce is in constant conflict about the Hulk---Bucky will be in constant conflict about the Winter Soldier. How the Winter Soldier and Bucky Barnes were handled in this movie was masterful. I literally, can't wait for Cap 3. I was so hoping there would be a cameo or reference or something in Ultron--but besides the one comment Sam Wilson makes--there's nothing. Sebastian Stan showed everything and told almost nothing. He was truly amazing in this role.

It always baffles me when people say Bucky was the 'villain'. That implies personal motivation, choice, autonomy. Bucky Barnes has none. He's a prisoner of war, brainwashed into total obedience by HYDRA. The level of psychological and physical abuse that he goes through is absolutely heartbreaking. There are several instances in the movie were he's almost childlike, confused and vulnerable. He's a threat yes, but a villain? Hardly. HYDRA is the villain. Pierce is the villain. Bucky Barnes is a victim of torture, brainwashing, and intense abuse. He has been broken down into a tool, and is no more a villain than the guns HYDRA uses. Terms like "anti-hero" and "villain" don't fit because that implies choice. The first choice Bucky made since he fell off that train was to save Steve's life when they fell into the Potomac. Whenever I hear this song, it breaks my heart. People interpret the screams that continue throughout the song as the screams of the Winter Soldier's victims. Frankly, I think it's Bucky himself. The Winter Soldier is an incredibly sad, tortured character. Calling him a villain does him and Sebastian Stan a grave disservice, since it dramatically over-simplifies an incredibly complex character.

TrollfestMaghee Early on in the song, that repetitive sound? I guess it can be interpreted in a lot of ways; some hear sirens, others hear screams. I hear a child screaming and interpret it as Bucky screaming, because Bucky's been just whittled down to this very sad, child-like state of vulnerability even while he's this terrifying threat to Steve and Nat. There are a lot of little moments in Sebastian Stan's performance that make Bucky seem childlike as the Winter Soldier, even as he was extremely deadly, and the scene with Pierce...

This theme represents the Winter Soldier's character perfectly. It starts out almost silent, with a single note in the background that sounds almost like a man screaming in the distance, representing Bucky being broken by Hydra's experiments as they aim to weaponize him and make him into a Super-Soldier and assassin of their own. Then as the techno/dubstep sounds kick in, it represents Bucky's transformation. As the music becomes louder, it represents him as he is now: The Winter Soldier. Now he's the ultimate assassin. A nearly unstoppable killing machine who will complete his mission by any means necessary.

This is probably one of the best character themes used in a Movie since the 90's it actually captures everything that is Bucky and The Winter Soldier. The Scrambled Memories, the Screams of the Buried Horrors trying to surface, the Soviet-like Technological theme and the longer the song goes on the Clearer the Screams become to show how the brainwashing degrades the longer he is out of cold storage. Perfect.

TWS must be the darkest MCU movie indeed. One factor might be that it deals with real stuff, like corruption inside an organization, a political thriller as they called it. While there's humor like any Marvel movie, it is mostly overshadowed by the serious plot. And of course, I can't forget about Bucky, from the disturbing things Hydra did to him to this theme.

As well Jason Todd was often described as reckless and a hothead. The winter soldier on the other hand is ruthless and unrelenting and was trained for years to be one of the worlds greatest assassins. As well he has a bionic arm which would make winning a fistfight with him difficult for a normal guy like Jason and if we're going by movie version is also a super soldier. A more even matchup might be death stroke vs winter soldier.

Not terribly memorable in any case, at least not like this. Iron Man and GOTG benefited from having licensed songs, and the former was also allowed to have - god forbid - a rock-based soundtrack. But literally all the the rest has just descended into fairly standard orchestral mush. Does it make the films cohesive? Sure. Does anything beyond this stick out as much as say, the instantly recognisable Danny Elfman Batman soundtrack, or the main Batman theme for the Nolan trilogy?

This truly captures the essence of the Winter Soldier. The Winter Soldier is an infamous legend. A myth. A ghost. The Winter Soldier is part machine, part supernatural beast. He's a monster appearing from the smoke, with no remorse or mercy, only an objective. And this perfectly captures his character. The first part is an eerie symphony, representing the ghost, the supernatural myth of The Winter Soldier. The beast appearing in the fog. A thing that is only spoken of in whispers. The halfway point represents the machine. The cold, mechanical, efficient killer. The part that approaches a target, unfeeling and focused on nothing but assassination. Henry Jackman did this film justice with the soundtrack.

Then, the two songs eventually blast as one another loudly as they clash, but Steve's dies down again as TWS's continues to blast, before cutting off abruptly. Then, as Steve's song continues you can hear echos of TWS's theme echoing faintly in the background of Steve's. HOW COOL IS THAT.
