Oh hi, you caught me lurking in the reply thread of 2 year old comment, not contributing anything of value to the discourse.
Fun fact: When Captain America was in the 40s there was a lot of controversy and hate mail thrown at the company making it by white supremacists, racists, and nazi sympathizers. People were sent death threats. However, it also received praise by the minority groups and even got the mayor of N.Y. or the govenor to voice out he was a fan of the comic and urged them to keep going with the series. Captain America is not just a flag pole hero war time propaganda character. He was one of the few characters in comics that fought nazis both in comics and in real life, succeeded in uniting the country during the war, and bring the nation confidence at a time it was unsure of themselves against the axis powers. He really was the enemy of fascism, injustice, and hate to people back then.

Wow, I knew about that first part with the mayor and Nazi sympathizers going to Timely, only for Kirby to go down wanting to fight them. Never thought of it like that last part. And that Ennis guy thinks Captain America is offensive to real people who fought in WWII

I love that, when superhero comics started to wane in the early fifties, Captain America became an actual HORROR COMIC to try and hang on!
We all know the first scream was yours Chris.
Been watching all your videos over this last week. This intro caught me off guard hahah. Love your stuff.
HahA! Really fun vid. Great job as usual. Love the historic aspect of Captain America. Thanks!
Amazingly put together and thought out as usual !

Appreciate the support.
The way in which the shield is drawn in this issue is remarkably unusual. Instead of the badge-shaped original design or the well-known sphere segment, this is a flat disk shield. I wonder if this was a last minute adjustement in order to comply with the legal need to distance themselves from the appearance of Archie Comics' character "The Shield"''s namesake.
I see a lot of characters' legs and heads extending beyond panels. Is this not a trope? Oh, and thanks for covering Golden Age Cap. Maybe you could cover some other Timely/Atlas material, as well?
The girlfriend's scream was the cutest scream I have ever heard.
The reason Captain America smoked back in the 40's was because back then people didn't realize how dangerous smoking was, dosen't make it okay though, I imagine more modern versions of Cap wouldn't smoke in the 40's because they'd want him to be an example of how to be better, which was the point of Cap.
it depends on the pipe, a nice wood w a high gloss finish, on your typical grandfathers pipe gives you an air of intelligence. using a shitty glass pipe or corn cob pipe gives you more of a drug addict or poor person persona.
In several issues of Marvel's Fantasy Masterpieces comic book, there were reprints of many early Simon/Kirby Captain America stories.
Thank you for including ole Hacksaw hooooooooo!
The whole masked monster killer on a film set plot reminds me of the first clay face batman story from the 40s
I've been a member of MU since 2012 and never got any of these boxes!
Great stuff. Thx 😃
thanks for the video

One thing I've wondered about for years is, how did this business of superheroes calling themselves "Captain" get started? Captain America, Captain Marvel, Captain Battle etc. They're not usually affiliated to the military (although some are) so why call themselves "Captain"?
Lmao that boris karloff reference is hilarious. Even looks like him. Edit bucky even calls him frankenstein LMAO
Love it!!!!!👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Ita definitely a hunchback of notre dame reference. Especially with all the climbing. And then they call the villain talbot is that just a coincidence? Like larry talbot the wolfman? I assume it is but a funny one.
That shirt is amazing!!!
You might not be aware of it, but in Italy there's a whole line of (popular?) comics featuring Italian captains. Basically they made a superhero represting every important city (Rome, Venice, Naples etc.). I personally dislike the idea, but I guess it's worth reading since It's made by some top-tier Italian comic artists. Pretty good stuff!

From what I remember of the early Cap stories I read: He and Bucky would have to sneak off camp, and then sneak back in; im sure they were usually caught coming back/missing; then proffered the thinnest of mad excuses; and subsequently put on spud-cleaning duties (or the like) - all the while nudging, winking, and congratulating themselves highly. Cheers "LiL'JpD."

Me too, but at a guess I'd say because America makes the most gay porn? I Googled it, but all I found out was that Kenya is the country that searches for it the most! Love the stuff I learn through this channel.

Yes it caught me off guard too. I am guessing the reasoning behind it is: America is the land of the free. The freedom to make gay porn. I think that is why its in there, either that or Mr Comic Tropes is into his gay porn and spliced it in there by mistake.
I want man on man french kissing in all your intros now!
not cool
Those dudes kissing totally caught me off guard. *Cringe
