CapiBridge LoRa and ESP-NOW Gateway for Home Assistant

Ғылым және технология

🎁Two lucky subscribers will get CapiBridge for free!🎁
CapiBridge is an open-source gateway for low-power devices. It supports various communication technologies including LoRa, ESP-NOW, and WiFi. The gateway receives JSON strings from LoRa and ESP-NOW devices and publishes them to an MQTT server. It automatically separates the JSON string into dynamic MQTT topics based on keys within the JSON, such as "b" for battery or "m" for motion, making it highly compatible with Home Assistant. This gateway simplifies adding new DIY nodes/sensors to your smart home by standardizing the communication protocol across all projects, focusing on simplicity and unified protocol handling.

I think ESP-NOW is a great alternative to Zigbee for DIY projects, as it uses ESPs and is easy to work with. I planned a couple of future projects that use ESP-NOW and LoRa, so I hope you're as excited about future projects as I am. Thank you for doing these giveaways. This is an exciting project. I’ve been looking to implement Lora into my home assistant integration for years and ESP now for a while. I’ve also been thinking about esp now for a hot minutes too. I have some long range animal tracking projects, and multiple sensors for my race shop. It would also be great for the HA instance in our race trailer so we can utilize sensors across large race track properties!

I'm currently planning a water irrigation system for my parent's greenhouse. This gateway would be really helpful to communicate with different sensors and relays for this project. For the idea of shields, I would also add IR Blaster next to the RF433 shield to replace remotes in the house and control A/C for example through HA. Last but not least I want to thank you for the amazing quality content, building the project itself then shooting everything (with all the different angle shots, etc..) I can't image how much work is behind every video.. at the same time, I can't wait for the next project 😅

Thank you very much! As for the IR, I'm not entirely sure because it needs to be installed in a specific location. However, I have an idea: to create a shield for "WiFi Probe Requests" so you can detect when specific people are approaching the house, with capturing MAC addresses.

Last year, I constructed a water irrigation system for my plants, which includes an ESP32 and sensors for soil, temperature, air pressure, humidity, along with a display and pump. It updates Google Sheets with significant data changes, and I get notifications on my phone when the pump turns on or off. Lately, I've been exploring ways to enhance "the system", and CapiBridge seems to be the perfect solution, as I've considered integrating "the system" with Home Assistant.🖖

LoRa is perfect to get my garages sensors and the front door sensors, espnow would be a great thing to use for my cameras in this combination. For a garage, ESPHome is more suitable. With it, you can not only monitor but also control the garage door.

I'm building a garden watering system, allowing for multiple zones and schedules, with off-line functions so the watering schedule is not impacted by lack of internet. It also has LoRa on the board to allow for longer range where WiFi may not be accessible, meshing to allow for one WiFI station to be the master. Additional sensors will use ESP-Now to feed soil moisture readings, and weather station input. I intended to use Open MQTT Gateway devices to provide a bridge between WiFi and LoRa.

I am currently working on a sensor network for my boat where I will need the following sensors, a water level sensor, several temp sensors, a battery/volt meter sensor, several humidity sensors, and an accelerator/movement sensor, and all this data needs to be sent either to a receiver at my house or in the cloud. I think that the CapiBridge will be perfect for my use case.
