Capercaille (Tetrao urogallus) Lekking in Scotland.

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The Capercaille shown in this video were watched as part of an organised lek count under a schedule 1 licence in 2015.
I very much doubt that I will be privileged to watch a male Capercaille with a harem of five hens in Scotland again in my lifetime.
Just a few years before this video was taken it would not have been unusual to watch a male Caper with a harem of 9-11 hens.
In the forest behind my home we no longer see Capercaille.
In my opinion, unless Capercaille are re-introduced from a diverse genetic stock, we are doomed to see this grouse species become extinct in Scotland.
