Just bought the Canyon Ultimate CF SL 8 few minutes ago before i watched this video. I was so glad that you called it a star buy! This is very helpful.

The use of the overlay was powerful. I would never have thought this was helpful but it really demonstrates everything you described. Very cool!

You have such a great way of talking and explaining your subjects. Its concise and clear.

If you run the numbers the geometries of the Ultimate and the Endurace are almost identical; to produce the Medium Endurace frame from the Medium Ultimate you need only move the entire front back 10mm, change the head tube angle by 0.25deg and increase the head tube height by 10mm. You still have identical trail and, presumably, handling. In fact, if you run a 110mm stem and a 20mm spacer on an Endurace and a 100mm stem and 30mm spacer on the Ultimate the bar is at almost spot on the same position. Assuming the layup is very similar (which is an unknown) my theory is that the only reason reviewers think they handle differently is that the Endurace coming with 28mm tyres versus the 25mm of the Ultimate....

How do you find the Comfort and ride in the ultimate? Trying to decide between the ultimate vs endurace?

Bikotic, brilhant ideia to put both images overlapping. Simple, but very didactic. I say this because watch a lot videos about ciclism and all that things. The majority videos do not show the geometry as they should. The frame is the soul of bike and the geometry is the genes.

Great video! The geometry overlay comparison is a brilliant way to illustrate how the frames differ from each other. I have been trying to decide between the Aeroad and Ultimate for some time now. As a rider with very long legs in relation to hight, which results in a high seat position and relatively short reach, I can now cross the Aeroad off my list - despite of having pretty decent flexibility! The long reach and low front simply won't work for my body proportions. I might even need to have a look at the Endurance, which I hadn't even considered, since I prefer a low and aggressive position.

I thought your video was going to be cheesy, but was really good. It really comes from the perspective of how I would choose a bike

Good video, I ended up buying an Aeroad, it's such a banger of a bike. I love it! One bad thing is that you made a score based on price and weight, eventho weight isn't as important as we used to think 15 years ago.

Would like to see a follow up video with the 2021 release of the Endurance 7 Disc bike.

I think the canyon Aeroad is one of the best looking bikes. I’m new to road bikes and kinda have my heart set on this. Why ? I have a need for speed! Probably gonna fix up my cheap road bike first before I go crazy and spend that kind of money. I just really wanna ride that Aeroad. Even looks fast !

Great video bro, I'm riding Ultimate CF SL 9.0 2017. edition for a year and a half now and it's a great machine, but I'm considering buying new more aero wheels in the future if I'll have enough money or even upgrading to SLX/Aeroad in some crazy case :) Still, I'm not so sure what benefits I would get from those upgrades.

Endurace CF SLX 9.0 Disc Di2 is my next bike. Going to sell my TCR for it as I’m switching into triathlon training. Longer rides.

How would you compare hight of the steering weel on the aeroad with the hight of the steering wheel on an ultimate? Is the difference that much on longer rides, or does it not make that much of a difference?

Great idea but your bike value calculator puts too much emphasis on bike weight. That’s very much dependant on what each rider wants. I’d take the slightly heavier Aeroad models over the others as they are going to be faster in the flatter area that I live.

Great work! I think you're overlooking the value of the total package when comparing price to weight ratios. Example: some of the wheel sets make certain bikes better buys (Canyon Ultimate > TCR).

Fantastic video. Just about to buy a Canyon and the Ultimate cf slx 9 is a gem.. Small frame is even lighter at 6.3 kg. (mechanical dura -ace.). Canyon also have some big discounts at present.

Great bit of off-the-shelf product comparison. There's an alternative approach though. I bought an Ultimate CF SLX frameset which comes with carbon aero cockpit and seat post, and then fitted Ultegra Di2 and a set of Mavic Cosmic pro carbon clinchers, both bought at discount from UK on-line retailers. The frameset was also discounted under the Canyon sponsorship deal with a valid race licence, so all in all the bike came in at a shade under £4,200 - way less than the £5,899 equivalent ULTIMATE CF SLX 9.0 DI2 on Canyon's site at the moment. With pedals, computer and stages power meter, it sneaks in at about 7.0kg

Which should I pick for a Criterium?

One of the best reviews out there on this. Good work. I've been struggling on a decision between a Ultimate vs Endurace.. what would be the biggest difference in terms of comfort between the two for the back etc? I'm not a racer, but, do long road cycling for fitness etc, so would still like something decent but comfortable too. Thanks in advance

If you dont race then you might want to get the Endurace for the more comfort between the two. It should be friendlier on your back.

Really good video! It was very comprehensive, but why is there no value added in the calculator for disks. I get that this is a very sensitive topic. But why not include like a tool where you can say that for example that 5 BV points will be added for disks or that you can even customize it if it adds or subtracts points for disks bikes. Would love to see that. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the good work.

www.canyon.com/en-us/road/ultimate/ultimate-cf-slx-8-0 - depending on how steep the hills are in your area you might need to change the rear cassette to a 30t or 32t - and if its super super steep a 34 on the front....

Yes it is. But delivered with enough spacers to adjust if you want. Its a racemachine that you can also use every day.

Really enjoyed this video, Gets a 10/10 imo. Please do something similar with Chinese bikes. Perhaps find the best 3 or 4 far east race bikes for 1000~2000 pounds. I would love to learn about them.

I can't understand why 75 thumbs down? The amount of work you did to produce the video you should be getting extra thumbs up. Love the side by side compartion. It would be a good guide to buy a bike. It is not bad information. Ik like the comparison of the frames. When you try to make a good choice, all you care about is price/weight. It is also important what type of rides you are gonna make and what type of frame that you want then. Further; if you pay a lot for the wheelset, I don't like to put brakes on them. Why do you think, more and more manufacturers build bikes with discbrakes.

I agree with your choices - I was looking at Canyon bikes earlier today (which is why I'm watching this vid now). My only question is how well rim brakes work with carbon wheels - I've never tried that combo.

Trey Quattro perfect in the dry, horrible in the wet. Don’t ever want to descend rim brake carbon wheels in the wet.

I like to spend whole days with my bicycle, so I’d like to test the Endurace.

The top few Canyon Ultimate builds would actually require ballast weights added for racing, they are quite a bit under the UCI weight limit.

No Endurace bike on the list? I just wonder whether I should go for Endurace CF 8.0 or Ultimate CF SL 8.0. It is only 300$ difference. I want fast climbing bike. I like looks of red Endurance more than black Ultimate, but Ultimate weights 0,4 kg less, and is stiffer (faster). Right? But that much stiffer? I heared that Endurace is very similar to Ultimate, and is more like a race bike than endurance bike. What's your opinion? It is worth to go Endurance in any case?

Campy 11 has way more usable choices for cogsets AND you can run Shimano cassettes on it without any problems. However, if you buy a Campagnolo bike you already have the Campy carrier and will need a Shimano cassette body to use your "ready stock" Shimano cassettes. Having a spare wheel around for the Shimano cogsets seems pretty smart assuming you already have lots of spares.

3.5k for an ultimate cf sl with ultegra di2 discs. Man... inflation really hit hard Edit: So I actually looked up the price. Back when this video was released, there were no CFR models. The SLX was the equivalent to the current CFR, and the SL is now the SLX. (The components and weight corroborate this) The Ultimate CF SLX is now *still* 7.26kg and costs 6.2k GBP. That's almost twice the price... Sure, the dollar has gone up, but not by this much. Real shame I didn't buy these bikes earlier.

Didn’t get a Canyon but very close last year . Having now seen this may well have changed my mind I plumped for another brand But well done I echo the view Canyon May want to offer you a marketing job
