I love how I tuned in to learn about canters and hear people talk about one of my favorite restaurants but it turned into a conversation about how hard it is to live in LA. Yes it’s hard and it’s a sore topic when we talk about our personal struggles out here but when we’re at canters and we get a bowl of matzo ball soup, a pastrami sandwich and those sour pickles our cares melt away for a short while.

I used to live in the Fairfax neighborhood around 1974-75 and went there once in a while. I liked the decadent Pastrami Burritos at Oki dogs more than sandwiches. I figured this must have been around 92-93 since he mentioned the riots. I moved away in 93 but, still go to visit friends and family. Most of the time I stop at one of The Hat locations since they have more of them and their sandwiches are identical at every one of them. They are up to $11.75 now.

GLARING omission on their part. Tons of people ask this very question on the other Huell/KCET videos throughout the various episodes shown on You Tube.

I always found Huell to be extremely obnoxious. I get so irritated listening to him, I would yell...shut up...let them talk!!!! I think during this film in 1992, Huell found his match...Gary Canter. Gary was a great guy. I knew him from when I worked at Canter's Deli in the early 2000s for a year while attending college. During my year at Canter's, I never saw Gary talk as much as he did on this video. I very seldom saw Gary talk at all. I really hope Canter's pulls itself together and make their deli a great place to go to again.
