    really helped choosing, nicely done, loved jj, and the little dramatic story. thanks also for the great video quality, hard to find anything in decent videoquality about the G series. digital zoom in full HD is bad, with the 4k that will be possible. Still dubbing about 4K or not, but for internet full HD still a good thing

    Hi Dave, great video thanks. I was looking at a Panasonic HC-FXF1 4k, but can't get one in the UK. So I was looking at the Canon. What is the difference between the Canon VIXIA HF G50 and the Canon LEGRIA HF G50? Is this the same camera but different name, depending on what part of the world you live in? Would I be better to wait for the Panasonic to come back into stock? Thanks

    *- upvoted ur post -* Sony FDR-AX53. It's versatile, and so for example, as a streaming or podcasting device it produces clean hdmi output, a detail that could get easily forgotten in a selection pool elimination decision. Don't forget either the AX53's incredibly sharp stunning vivid 8.93 effective megapixels video with Sony's notorious rock solid autofocus. I could go on but I presume you've already looked into those specified 4 choices and compared specs, etc. AX53 has Zoom, WIFI, etc, features galore... *I think the worst mistake anyone can make* is slicing & dicing selections down to eventually picking between two choices and opting for the one with a lower maximum aperture, like say 1.8 vs. 2.2 or similar. That's usually for a low lighting setting consideration. Unless you expect to be recording live bar band sessions, or outdoor nighttime events, or similar, where you must adapt to that particular location's lighting, then you can adapt the LIGHTING to the specs of YOUR Camera/Camcorder. Learn Lighting. It's easy, and doesn't require a million dollar hollywood studio setup to produce satisfactory results. There's tons of videos too with tips & hacks that are worth their weight in GOLD. F/1.4 F/1.6 F/1.8 blah blah blah . . . that's 99% for still images . . . don't get sucked into an aperture size spec wormhole, factoring that in toward deciding a video-centric decision - you've got ways to offset that, and other priorities to consider. You can't "offset" the quality of the LENS on a FIXED-Lens device, or the effective video megapixel count, you're stuck with those, that's what needs to be taken into account, absolutely and without exception, FIRST & FOREMOST.

    Not sure if you still look at these but I’m in need of fast help. I do photography as a volunteer for my daughters school and lately using my Canon 80d for video with a 50mm lens and my 6d m2 for long range still’s within a theater. The theater lighting is awful but I can pull some nice shots. Question - I want to record the events with something other than an slr. This is volunteer work so I’m not interested in spending a lot. I post the event video on my KZread channel (remember - I’m no expert and my strength is in stills). Would this camera work for theater performances or do you suggest something else. I’m kinda desperate right now. Thank you. On a side note, what kills the recording is the dark to light scene opening as my canon has to be kept in manual as the video will bloom and focus search each time.

    Hi Emma! There's a bunch of ways to do this ranging from really simple to quite complex...if I were in your situation, here are two things I'd consider: 1. Record a wide enough shot to cover both standing and sitting and then when you're editing it, create two shots - one zoomed in a bit to the standing position, and one zoomed in to the seated position. (If you have a 4k camera, you could zoom in 2x and export at 1080 without losing any quality) 2. Use another camera (or even your phone camera - they're pretty good these days) so that you can have two shots. Put the best camera on the shot you'll use the most and the phone camera on the secondary shot). 3. Record multiple "scenes" - you could record all the standing bits first and all the seated bits second and cut it together so it still looks natural? Definitely not ideal if you're doing full workouts but an idea at least? Does that help? Let know if you have any more questions! I love to help where I can :)

    Dave, congratulations on your beautiful family, your service to the Church, and your appreciation of the G50. I am writing to you from Lima Peru and I see the need to decide between a G50 (1.8 - 2.8) vs Sony CX900 (2.8 - 4.5). I know it is not 4K but I need it to be at an approximate price of $ 1000. Currently I have a SONY HXR NX80 but I feel like I need more power ... maybe PXW Z90V or CANON XF405 or XF505 (about to hit the market) but I have to segment not only by type of work but by equipment range. Have you tried a SONY with a 1-inch sensor? CANON G50 with a smaller sensor but with better optics would it be in a similar quality? Thanks for your advice and once again greetings from Lima Peru.

  • @davebetts

    @davebetts

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Tim! Great question. It's just my opinion, of course, but I would say that it depends on what you plan to use it for. If you are planning to use it as a streaming device, there's not really any point streaming in 4k as the bandwidth required is super high and few people will be able to even watch it in 4k live. But if you aren't live streaming, 4k is a really nice feature to have. For me personally, I would only consider the G50 or AX11 for live streaming...I would probably consider something else for general video recording. Does that help?

    I have the g30 and thought this was an upgrade. but it looks the same as g30 just double in size, so I can zoom in more in post. but auto white balance for me seems trouble walking from one room to the other with different lights, I have to turn it off and back on. also they took the PRO logo off of it, feel like I wasted money maybe ? I am sure its a good camera just wanted to upgrade, not just have bigger picture and lots of things taken off, like cinema mode. AND the screen is smaller :( big test with 3 cameras at a concert tomorrow, we will see final if anything different. Using the camera gives a red or white point in the middle on top of the screen It is ment to show wether the camera is recording or not. I’ve checked the manual but I don’t know how to get wrid of it. Do you have the answer?

    Canon missed a few opportunities here. 1) It's incompatible with an XLR adapter / top handle. At least give people the option to add that on at some point later after they purchase it. Audio is important! 2) No built-in ND filters. NDs are extremely important for video. The dual SD card slots are a definite plus though.

     @Dave Betts Thank you! So I have another odd question....I recorded a pageant this past weekend, started/stopped for each section of the pageant (they have different events) well I noticed some of the files are like, broken into two parts - it's not "one" intact video and also EACH file is only 3.95GB and 23:45 exact....) so e.g one file at the end stopped in the middle of one girl's crowning and then the next file is another video and it starts off at the end of the last video of the same girl's crowning....I cannot have the videos broken up like that and need a continuous filming from when I hit record until I stop and then let it create a new video once I hit record again for the next segment. Help??

    Great video. I mainly record stand-up comedy and school events, and am finally upgrading from a Canon Mini DV HV20. Options started with the Canon R800 you mention but I want the accessory shoe for a mic. Next was the Panasonic HC-v770 but I had some more money in the budget and it seemed 4k for recording 1080p is better than just 1080p. So it was down to this Canon G50 and the Sony FDR-AX53 but I went with the ax53 because I got a better open box deal ($760 vs $900s). One of the reasons I think the AX53 is ultimately better for me is that it may have better image stabilization. I saw this vid which actually kind of sold me on the G50 (kzread.info/dash/bejne/q5iJptitmLi_g9Y.html) because of the manual settings capability but for me, I’m not not familiar with any of that stuff. So I think it would be wasted, thus another plus for me & the AX53. That said I am still within my return window and watching some G50 auctions.

    Hey there Dave, I create content.. a lot of content.. and I work with other content creators that struggle with what to do after you've got your footage. (my channel is AirgunWeb if you care to take a look). Anyway, I just ordered two of these as I found them on Canon's refurbished site for $800 and then dropped a 2yr warranty on each of them. The beauty of being able to film way past that 30min limit is that you can start both cameras and just let them run. When you get to editing, just line up their audio once and you are done for the rest of the edit. We are often filming two things simultaneously in completely different directions. If you have to cut those clips into 10 or 15 individual clips on each camera, it really adds to the editing time to line them all up. I also work with our ministry to work out the best way to stream our services. I've mostly used Mevo cameras but they can be real finicky so I'm glad you mentioned using this to stream. Our goal is to have a "one operator" setup where we have a PC that handles facebook, shoutcast, and our digital mixer all at once. We don't always have someone to run the camera as well which is why we've used Mevos to this point. But, given their unreliability, we may need to just cut our losses there and move to something fed via HDMI. I have a Roland VR-4HD which I could add to the mix and just run multiple HDMI inputs and still keep the "one operator" concept in place, but it's not what I would call an "affordable" option for small fellowships. Anyway, thanks for the video and best wishes for you and your channel. Cheers Rick
