What an informative review! I am definitely interested in picking up this camera! I'm currently using the Sony RX100 but the lack of a mic input is bumming me out. It's great for vlogging, but I think I can step up my game a little with this little gem. Thank you so much!

It’s a great little camera!

i just bought the SL-2. It was this or the Nikon D5600. This one was just so much more camera. Yes, the Dual Pixel AF is great. I hope to start putting up content on KZread soon as this is the vlogger's Camera. Great job here.

Agreed! A great lens makes all the difference. Long ago I put my first L lens (Canon's original 24-70mm) on my Xsi. Yowser! I was hooked.

Great review. You really put this through its paces in real life situations. This is going to be my first DSLR as a result. I’ll be doing some vlogging and other video for my channel and also taking pics. Question: in addition to the kit lens that is included, is there one additional lens you would recommend getting with the camera as I slowly build up my equipment. Can’t believe you only have 1k subs by the way; that will change very very soon.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate it. For vlog, the best lens to pair with the SL2 would be the 10-18STM. For the sit down interview style shots, get the 24mm f2.8 STM pancake. Those two lenses are all you need to start a youtube channel. If you need something with a little more zoom range then the 18-135STM is really great too.

Love the review ! I used to think M lenses were limited , but using M cameras with adapters opens up M native, Ef-s and Ef lens adaptability... more options actually

This is a really great camera. I just picked one up yesterday in the kit form and also got a Rode Video Mic for it. The only 2 drawbacks are that the mic cable interferes with rotating the screen and that the SD card is on the bottom. I primarily leave it setup to record my YT videos, which means I have to remove it from the tripod to get the SD card out

Totally! That's why I still prefer my 80D instead! The SL2 makes a great portable camera for when you need to travel light!

SEP 16 2019 and this camera still works perfecttttt with a 10 to 18 for my videos . im replacing this soon but it works really good

still relevant. last week, i used it on a paid gig as the "a cam" due to the wonderful dual pixel af. footage was clean. interviewee looked great and was in FOCUS! shot duel sound to a zoom f4 and then back to the sl2's audio in. this way i have two pro mics (boom and lav), access to a headphone jack to monitor and i employed the safety track as a backup. less than $400 during the holiday sale. i'm pleased.

Great video! Had a little play with this the other day. I enjoyed using it, but I think prospecting buyers should just save a little longer and pick up a used 80d for a couple hundred more. Its a great starting point but you will out grow it really quickly. Or even look up the Lumix G85. I know that's apples and oranges but it's kind of the competition.

Enjoyed the easy to follow, no nonsense, not too techy review. Very entertains as well!

I’m just trying to learn all I can. My primary goal is to make better videos for family events. I currently use Canon g7x. There are alot of videos out there about gear but not much about how to make better videos.

Hello Dave great review. I am thinking of buying this camera, I.wanted a DSLR that can also.shoot videos at least 60fps. You mentioned that it does not have an image stabilizer in the lens? Is that correct?. If yes what canon camera with less than 700$ price tag can u recommend with a lens with image stabilization. Thank you

Yes and yes! I’ve used a software called Dragonframe for stop motion and it’s great but the camera could do time lapse in camera for a more simple way to do stop motion in camera

ow wow! thank you for linking me to this camera! I was so interested in the m6 i really want something small and light since i have really bad wrists and a lot of the times i have to wear a brace and my wrists feel weak, i love that it has wifi since i really love that feature! I want to start vlogging with traveling and kitten rescue! i also love the flip screen so i wont have to get that bracket like in the m6 vid! do you still recommend the 11-22 mm lens?

(Dave here) With the sl2 I recommend the canon 10-18 STM for vlogging! The 11-22 is only for the mirrorless canons

If you want to change lenses and have an external mic, then sl2. If you want something small and light with built in audio, then g7x!

Hello sir I have a quick question I'm thinking between Canon 200d or 800d but my question is why everybody prefers Canon 200d Canon 800d I think it's a little bit better basically they are the same except Canon 800d is got a 45 cross points which one should I buy?
