Tried it but it still doesnt fix it, ink image still appears even with brand new cartridge. Do you have any other ideas as to what may be causing it?? Please help

Hi, i took it apart and i glued the gear as shown, and it still shows no ink. I used a new ink cartridge as well but to no avail. Do you know what could be the reason? Could it be because it's been ages since i last used it? The last that i can remember using it was back in 2012 and now its 2020. What other reasons do you think could be the problem? I only used it like less than 20 prints. Everything functions properly except for the part when i press print and it says no ink. Please help, thank you in advance!

Many of these printers came with a sample pack of ribbon and paper, like 6-10 prints. You may have bought the replacement sets but forgot to replace the ribbon as well as the paper like I did! Just a thought!

Thanks for your generosity! I've just fixed my printer and it's working again. Very useful!

It's worth noting that the used "ink" cartridge contains negative images of all the photos you have printed. Fun to pull out and see, but if you are printing sensitive images you might want to destroy the cart after ;)

Really every charity shop I go in has a couple of these kicking around so I can look at all the old pictures lol.

Thank you so much! I didn't realise that you could take the printer apart without removing the main PCB, which has a few delicate ribbon cables attached. I was going to take my printer to the E-waste but it now has new life - cheers! P.S. I love Oreo cookies, so the ingenious music box segment was intriguing. Bet it won't play a custard cream though!

Hi. Brilliant video - just fixed my Selphy CP720 that had exactly this problem: small gear displaced at the end of the shaft. fixed in no time thanks to your clear instructions. Why replace when you can simply repair?

I'm watching this because I like to watch people repairing stuff, and in particular because it's a databits video, even if I will never buy one of these printers. I mean, for me the fact that I can print at home does not compensate the fact that copies are way pricier done that way than at a photo center. Considering you can order your copies online, too, this kind of devices are a no-go to me.

I had to replace a Canon printer, The Canon MP470. I've had it forever then one day it wouldn't stay on. I could not get it to work I even tried various procedures online and nothing worked. So I got a new one and tore the canon one apart. Turned out there was a dried up clog in the waste ink tray. At this time I already had the new one all hooked up. That oreo cookie record player albeit fake, is actually pretty cool. How about a teardown video on it?

I tried taking one from a small clock but it's too big, it was 4mm diam, do you have any idea what size that cog is so I can source one?

Many thanks. My cartridge (cp750) is stuck and I opened up the printer to release the cartridge and this exact white plastic gear tumbled out. Glad I found your video, CAed and put back the gear - else this printer is going to the bin.

Yes, brilliant colour, and insane price per page as well. Almost as bad is the wax transfer ones, which use those lovely little expensive colourstix for each colour, and "black is free" because you use so little of it. Got the original Sony Selphy printer though, and a collection of both the dye cartridges and the paper for it as well. Just have to use a TV set to display the menus, as it uses a video input for capture from a camcorder, or you use a Sony Memory Stick to transfer the images for it to s-l-o-w-l-y print out after the 4 passes are complete. Yes I have made postcards using it.

Ah, Dye Sublimation! I miss the "ALPS Micro-Dry" dye sub printers from the late 1990's. They also had Gold and Silver foil ribbons, they were pretty damned cool.

There is a problem with the ink cassette! Correct as follows, then try printing again. 1. Check the state of the ink cassette. 2. Turn printer off and back on. 3. Remove the paper that caused the error.

Those little dye-sub printers are great. Best quality you'll get in the price range, very close to having commercial photo prints done, and the consumable cost is comparable to inkjet cartridges and paper. And they're fast... I use one to crank out prints at "pictures with Santa" type events for an animal rescue. However... Canon has done the dirty trick of releasing the new CP1300 series, and the film cassettes for it are not compatible with the older printers. They've also also discontinued the older supplies, or at least made them very hard to find. You end up having to buy a new printer for the exact same print quality. I notice Canon's ink and toner finder shows the current cassette+paper packages are compatible with older printers. They are most certainly *not*. Learned that the hard way.

That oreo cookie player. What a stupid and pointless waste of time. Where can I get one? xD! I did a teardown of a very similar printer a couple years ago, and remembered about the ink cartridge right at the very end. I was absolutely blown away by how it worked! I'd never seen this technology before, and i was truly amazed :O :D

I wish I would have seen this video a while back! I have two CP740's and they both have this problem. Unfortunately, I took them apart a few years ago and could not find anything wrong with them at the time, but did not know what to look for. Took them apart again today, and that little gear is gone in both of mine, so they are pretty much trash at this point. ;p(

I suspect that cookie player just has prerecorded music in its memory. It just detects how much of the cookie is there and plays whatever piece corresponds to, say, a half-destroyed cookie. Just a theory on my part based on how repetitive those snippets are.

I did all this pushed the whell back to its place, but now the printer is not powering up :(. It seems that these ribbon cables are not connected properly any more... Realy rubbish printer not even in China they make so bad quality
