Canon Rebel EOS software Digital Photo Professional 4 Tutorial and demo

The first segment of this video was filmed on the Samsung S7 edge. The rest of the video is dedicated to Canons software Digital Photo Professional 4. I go over some basic steps to show how to quickly edit videos and maneuver through the software. It is a great editing tool when you learn how to use it correctly.

    DPP 4 is awesome imo. Correcting exposure works seamlessly even on jpegs. I was amazed at the simplicity of the process. Note: for Mac users don't be put off by Canon not offering DPP 4 for recent os versions....just select older versions until you see it. It works fine.

    Thank you sooo much! I just downloaded this today. I've had my camera for 3 weeks and was stuck using the windows photo editor which is nothing like this. I can cut my teeth on this then learn Lightroom or some other advanced one later. You did a great job showing everything. I was lost before I found your video. 🙏

    Great intro to software, i can use it now and found your methods very helpful. And yes, you are right about having paid for it because i know i have purchased it many times over with my Canon camera and lens investments.

    It is indeed a great software to enhance your pictures. Really enjoyed the video, however, I have a small suggestion. Could you please slow down a bit and explain in baby steps the icons you are clicking? I had a hard time following what you were clicking to get the adjustments made. I did it by pausing KZread and playing it again. It took longer than expected to follow your instructions. In order to remember what you did, I decided to job it down on a piece of paper. In a while, I will download the software and see how it works. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

    Are you trying to adjust the raw file? Or the cr2 file. The jpg will not allow all these changes.

    Thank you, good tutorial, I’m a first time user. Could you make your cursor bigger? It was a bit hard to follow it, but I learnt heaps from it. How did you get to show up the overexposed areas? Did you click on something? I can’t seem to get it on mine. Thanks again.

    Quick question, what keys are you using to copy and paste with the stamp tool? I cant find any documentation and after a few times of clicking it creates multiples of the subject instead of letting me clean up the background..and help is appreciated!!

    Hi, I would like to know if with DPP it is possible to do some retouching in the area, for example lighten or color only one detail of the image and leave the rest unchanged. Thank you

    Thanks for this tutorial Aaron. I'm a Canon shooter and am wondering can DPP do something that Lightroom can't do ? Does it produce a better rendering of the RAW files ? Thanks.

    I prefer Lightroom, this is a free software that comes with Canons EOS cameras so I thought I'd test it out for a while. My conclusion is that it's slower and less effective than Lightroom. Plus it really uses a ton of my pc power and ram. However that's just my opinion, I'd recommend you try it out to see if you like it, I'm sure some people love it vs Lightroom.

    @@FitsandFun Possibly because Lightroom read Adobe uses most of your scratch disk resources. I unsubscribed from Adobe creative cloud and DPP is my default Raw editor. For Tiff and Jpeg the default is Affinity Photo, my photo browser is Adobe Bridge which is free which I use for the administration on my computer. .

    Hey I have a question this is the first time this has happened to me using this same program as you are using .. I edited a photo in “RAW” and then when I saved it to “JPEG “ format it saved and I can see the edited version on my pc. But when I send it to my “SD” card and open it , I see the picture but it’s like I never edited it ???? Why is this happening is it saving the jpeg none edit version because it’s not Saving the Raw image on the SD card ??? Really driving me nuts !!!

  • @FitsandFun

    @FitsandFun

    +Chasingwaves maybe create a new folder on your card and send the jpeg version to the new folder? Or possibly rename the jpeg file. That is odd though, but then again I've never put an edited RAW to JPEG back onto the card it came off.

    DPP is better in developing than Adobe Camera Raw and also Affinity Develop Persona naturally it works only with Canon cameras. I had an Adobe Subscription for some 10 years. I like to save as a Tiff for future use and in AP it opens perfectly. AP ignores the editing saved Raw files. For this amateur that's fine Tiff files are good enough.

    Chromatic aberration it is a refraction of too much light information. Enlarge the size of the photo till you see the refraction near the object borders of a photograph.
