@Paul Jones It reminds me of those fantasy sports scam commercials that used to run during every single commercial break during a sports game (usually NFL). I’ve currently got an M50 and love everything about it. I’ve been making videos for about 2 years and I think the R6 is a really logical step up and will allow me to grow even more. IBIS and 4K and better dynamic range are the three things I’m most excited to use compared to the M50. I’ve become and confident 1080p shooter and editor and I’m ready to try new stuff

Thanks for this informative video! How is the battery life on the R6? I have a severe case of FOROOB (fear of running out of battery) so I always make sure I have enough power: Powerbase Edge Core for the BMPCC4K, battery grips for the M50 and Fuji X-T4. But the Canon battery grip for the R6 is crazy expensive and only adds one extra battery, as opposed to the two extra batteries on for instance the X-T4 which then has 3 in total. Point of the story is: I pre-ordered the R6 and now I want to add some juice for run ‘n gun shooting, but I’m questioning whether to get the battery grip or the powerbase. Powerbase adds more power at a lower cost, but the battery grip is a more elegant solution. Anyway, how did you experience battery life?

I have noticed that most people that are using the R5 and R6 right now that are experiencing overheating issues don't use the battery grip. I go back and forth with my EOS R with and without the grip. Does anyone think that using the grip might alleviate some of the overheating since the battery area would be somewhat hollowed out and there would be more surface area to dissipate the heat?

With regard to overheating, I had a Sony RX100 Mk5 that could overheat before I even got to press record. My workaround was to use stills mode with a 16x9 aspect ratio until I had to start recording when I would switch to movie mode. I wonder if there is a similar workaround for the R6 or is it as easy switch from 1080p to 4k?

Does the R6 overheat while recording 4K 24? Cinema5D says that it does and the camera is basically unusable but DPReview says they recorded 4K 24 without any issues for over an hour. Canon also doesn’t list 4K 24 mode as one of the shooting modes that overheats so I’m having trouble understanding the consistency here.

For stills is this is mos def a good buy. For video I still have questions. For IPB vs ALL-I, is there a difference in how easy it is to edit the footage? Especially in something like 4k60 10-bit? The overheating to me is quite a bit of issue because there still seems to be so many unknowns of when it actually will pop up. And that’s even with the documents Canon has supplied on that because the camera can continue to get hot even when not shooting video or even just shooting photos. Thanks again sharing your experience on the camera. Looking forward to more!

In fact, all of the Sonys have overheated in 4K (and they never had 4K 60) for years but it was kept secret. Daniel Schiffer just admitted this issue a couple days ago in fact.

Great video! With respect to your question about the low-pass filter (AKA anti-aliasing), I think it accounts for a lot of the sharpness similarity between the R6 and the R, despite the 10MP resolution difference. I have a 1DX3 and 1DX2, and the 1DX3 is MUCH sharper because of the new low-pass filter tech. Having said that, I heard somebody from Canon (can't remember who) say that the low-pass filter on the R6 isn't exactly the same as on the 1DX3, but I'd bet that it's a quantum improvement over the R.

@@n0f4ke74 The X2 didn't leave a lot of room for improvement, but the X3 definitely takes the AF with the OVF up a notch. The face tracking is better and I trust all the focus points, so it's easier to frame tighter and have more pixels on target. The smart controller is also helpful. If you switch to live view, the AF is even better, especially because of the wider coverage and eye-AF. However, if you're going to use live view, you might as well go mirrorless with the R6 or R5.

  • @paulmorris4759

@@n0f4ke74 Live view AF is always better than AF with the OVF because it gathers the data directly from the imaging sensor instead of a separate AF sensor that has to be calibrated with the imaging sensor via autofocus microadjustment (AFMA). I have a very weird relationship with the touchbar At first I fell in love with it then after a month or so I hated it and then I loved it again.. I only do photos and the way I use the touchbar is to change focus modes and limiting them to tracking and single point makes the touchbar very useful when eye or face recognition fails to quickly change focus mode.. I am curious thought about the R6 if there is such a quick way to change focus modes...or is the new dual pixel af II so amazing and there is no need to do that!! Bottom line I think I wont miss the touchbar!! Great review!!!

Hi, I'm a photographer first and videographer second...at what video setting will the R6 not overheat? Will I worry about overheating if I shoot in photo mode for a whole day?

There have been no overheating issues at all with photos, and in the whole course of shooting this video it didn’t overheat. And 1080 is always safe

@@stalman Thank you!...that's all I need to know. Still deciding whether to get the R6 or R5. I still use my 5D MK II which I bought back in 2008. I had saved enough money through the years to get the R5 or an R6 with a nice RF lens.

    1. Will Canon fix the digital Stabilization weird warping on the edges? Is it even fixable on a firmware update? 2. Gotta say something about the image from the r6 feels a bit flat. Like, subjects don't pop out. Something about the midtones...

0:21 20 frames mechanical shutter? I’m pretty sure that it’s 12 frames in mechanical and 20 in electronic. Am I wrong?

Google "interframe vs intraframe" and check the first image. Basicly, IPB is is interframe, where 5 out of the 6 frames rely on information of the first frame, meaning less data needs to be restored, but editing with it is a bit harder on your computer (doesn't mean you will "feel" the difference while working with it, but it CAN cause a laggy experiance), because the software can't handle each frame individually. ALL-I is intraframe, which means every frame is "stand alone", which costs more bandwith per second, but it's easier on the editing software/your pc.

Thanks Tyler; as an R owner thinking of trading my 5D3 for an R6, I really appreciated your picture quality comparison between the R, and R6. EOS R Swipe bar - love it; set up for 0/5/10 times magnification when using my manual focus Zeiss lenses. Sure I use the focus guide, but for some shots you just gotta check. Yeah I swipe accidentally once in a while - but with magnify it's immediately obvious; - no accidentally changed exposure parameters. Look forward to more from you.

Great video Tyler & I completely agree with your opinion, for the most people out there this will be a great camera. I have pre ordered the canon R6 & it will be perfect for my event work. I believe that it's a good balance of high iso performance & file size. For me canon has the best ergonomics, the camera just feels right in my hands, I used to shoot weddings with the 6d / 5dmk4 & they were great. I now specialise in car photography & currently own the 5dmk4 & 5dsr ..... love the resolution in the 5dsr for car photography, especially as I sell very large prints & the files out of that camera look amazing when you print big. The canon R6 will be my go too event & travel camera, these are great tools to have & having the option to pick the right one for the job your doing is the way to go!

I liked the sharpness comparison test (R vs R6) but I would like to ask a question in other way: assuming using the same high quality glass will I notice the difference in detail and sharpness between A3+ prints coming from 30 megapixel 5DmkIV and 20 megapixel eos R6?

I guess the resolution point is a harder point for me to take because I come from the standpoint of a fashion and beauty photographer and retoucher. From a retouching standpoint, more resolution does a hell of a lot for me in allowing me to better target things that need to be removed/edited/etc and mess with less of the image overall. For studio environments with strobes especially (which is my primary workspace), differences in resolution can be rather pronounced in my experience just on the strength of the details I can capture with a higher resolution sensor.

There are always people who really do need the extra resolution and it sounds like you’re one of them. I just think A LOT of people are talking themselves into something they do not need
