Canon EOS R6 Long Term Review After 3 Years of Use
Фильм және анимация
Today I am telling you all about my personal experiences of using the Canon R6 for the past 3 years. I have used this camera for pretty much all of my daily work and while it is an amazing camera.... it definitely has some notable issues so lets get into it!

This is a great camera! Since all my work is still photography I really don't see changing/upgrading to another camera. Instead, I put my money on better glass and try to learn to be a better photographer. Thanks for your review.

Thank you so much Joe!
As someone in the Fuji camp I find it funny that you think Sony listens to their customers. They very rarely updates their cameras in the same way other manufacturers do and they cripple their lower end products like the A7IV (bad lcd, bad evf, no magnesium back plate, overheating etc.) which competes directly with the R6 and R6II to make people upgrade to higher end products (just like Canon :)).

This is true to an extent but at least Sony implements wanted features in new models and doesn’t make customers wait around forever to get a full size hdmi or a better log profile. Sony definitely does this too but not to the same extent in my opinion
Thanks for the review. Regarding the HDMI port I have no idea why some reviewer make that detail an issue. It's just a matter of getting a simple adapter for when you use HDMI. Most people never use HDMI anyway.
@calebbrunkow

If you never use external monitors it is never an issue but for someone working in the field that uses a monitor it can be a huge downside. The micro hdmi port is insanely flimsy and can break at any second which can completely ruin a shoot.
Started out with canon M6 mark II and EOS R. Sold my Canon cameras and went full Sony, A7SIII, A7IV, ZV-E10, A7RV… but… I’ve always bought and sold a canon camera even if I went full Sony for my main usage. Latest Canon camera is the R6 mark II.. just something about those canon cameras that I can’t let go of 😅

Whew. 30 minute time limit is a deal breaker for me. Thanks for saving me a headache.

Glad I could help!
Overheating, 30 minute limit and Canon refusing third party lenses ruined this camera for me. Recently I bought the Panasonic Lumix S5 IIx and I think I finally found what I wanted. It's not perfect but any means but man, it's a joy to use and V-Log is so good...

love this video. although I'm not a video shooter, i don't know the difference between c-log 2 and 3, i'll have to google it. It works great for my photos, as tempting it is to upgrade to the mk2, i'm going to hold out and use this until it breaks as i just shoot for fun. can't wait to watch all your other videos! keep up the great work!

Really glad you’re enjoying the content! If you only use this camera for photography it is a truly insane camera!
Great video :) I only owned the mk1 for a handful of months, but I yeeted my R6 as soon as the mk2 launched. Loved everything about it image and handling wise, it would've been the perfect B camera for me but the 30min record limit and overheating ruined one too many critical shoots for me. I think for photos and for most filming scenarios the mk1 is still great, but for interviews and docos or if you're only wanting one body for filming, the mk2 is 100% the way to go.

So true! They fixed a ton of issues in the mark ii version
I will still choose the canon R6. I always mentioned that a camera should record only stills and if you want a video camera best is to get a dedicated video camera to operate independently. In fact I am getting a used R6 today in excellent condition. I will use my R6 purely for stills and will get a separate video camera.

I totally hear ya. That’s kinda what I ended up doing, I still have my R6’s for all my photography work but also have an FX3 for all my video work and loving that setup
Still dig my Canon R6. Your vids helped me along the way when I bought it 2.5 years ago 😎

I'm on the R7, and I do love it. Its great for birds in flight and wildlife. Portrait and run-and-gun street photography is ok. But I'm still left wanting in on full frame. I'm torn between both the R6 and R6mkII.

If you’re just doing photo you can’t go wrong with either one to be honest
Love my R6. The high ISO performance is fantastic. I noticed that took a hit in the R6ii, though still pretty good. I almost never shoot video so the 30 minute time limit and overheating are non issues. Even if I did shoot more video, 30 minutes is plenty of time for a clip, unless you are shooting a whole wedding or something! About the only thing I would like would be the ability to add low volume sound feedback to electronic shutter. When using completely silent shutter I don't know if it's shooting or not, which can be disquieting.

Really love your insight on this! I rarely film things over 30 minutes as well. It was more so just a statement at how annoying some of the limitations that are put on these cameras are
@lionheart4424

Hi there, where or how did you notice that the high ISO performance is worse on the Mk. II? Isn't it supoossed to be better than in the original R6?
@tinysteelorchestra

@lionheart4424 I was surprised about that too - is it true?
@lionheart4424

@@tinysteelorchestra some say that since the R6 has less MPs then means better ISO performance. There was a video comparing them but others state that R6ii retains more details even at low light due to the slightly higher MPs so who knows.

Switched from a nikon to a sony a7iii and couldn't be happier! The lens selection is much better for third party and does everything I need it to for a semi professional hobbiest lol. No complaints other than 8 bit video but it's fun to learn

That’s a great combo!!
I’m paying attention to Panasonic, but everything reframing when you go to 60 fps. I’m fortunate with my R6 that I’m in Canada where there are few hot days. If Canon is going to protect their cinema line then release some cameras already. For my RF lenses I have a choice between a super 35 sensor with a really soft image and little wide RF offerings, or the R5”c” with micro hdmi, requires the xlr adapter, and requires battery work-arounds out of the box.
@calebbrunkow

I love the C70 but canon really needs to fill out their lineup and make their hybrid cameras more hybrid
I also have had the R6 for 2 years, my only complaints are: 1. lack of a medium-priced full 50mm frame lens - you either buy the cheap 1.8 which does not have the best quality, or you buy the super expensive and heavy 1.2. 2. not amazing dynamic range (I actually feel it is worse than my previous Nikon d7000). 3. the colors of the canon files are tougher to work with, it does not have the same quality of Nikon raw files colors.

Great cameras indeed
I have the R6 and R6 MK II. I hear you regarding the lack of All-I….. strangely enough if you record a Timelapse movie it produces an 8-bit All-I movie. So the All-I codec is in fact in this camera…. But Canon is deliberately blocking it when you shoot non-Timelapse video 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️

No way!?! I never knew that. That is incredibly annoying. Having all I in this camera wouldn’t affect R5 sales at all either they just choose not to add it
Great footage, nice review. I don't see a credible alternative in Sony's line-up, they do their own crippling by having many different models yet not one that is equally balanced for hybrid use. I either get the A7IV with a slow readout sensor and cropped 4k60p or the pricier A7SIII with only 12 MP so I can get yet another body for stills.
@calebbrunkow
11 ай бұрын
My thoughts exactly! I’m not the biggest fan of the A7 IV because I think it is arguably a worse camera in a lot of ways. The dynamic range may be better and has a full size hdmi which I would love both of those but the 4K 60 is cropped and the rolling shutter is awful in full frame mode. I wish they made the A7 IV a 24 MP camera and focused more on a faster sensor readout and full frame 4K 60.
@p_adam19

@@calebbrunkow But then they would make the A7SIII redundant. Maybe the A7SIII successor is going to move up to 6K.
@calebbrunkow
11 ай бұрын
Personally I don’t think it would make the A7Siii redundant at all since it still doesn’t have 4K 120 or a 12800 second native iso. It would sit right in between an A7S and an A7R
My man doesn’t even talk about custom mode 1-3 can’t be saved for video while it’s available on r6ii, must be a hardware limitation right?
