    Your videos are great! Thank you for all this insight and your photography style is beautiful. Its refreshing to hear reviews where you actually rate what the camera offers and not just compare it to what else is out there or just want more, like 4K 120fps, 12 bit video colour etc. Got myself the R6 today after watching many videos and thanks to the insights and your work on here.

    Great video! I have the R6 and even though it does really well with videos and is sufficient for most people's needs, it is the stills capabilities where the R6 makes it amazing. The IBIS and RF lenses really helps with creating those sharp images. I have the m50 and even though it is 24mp, the images don't come out as sharp in low light, and the IBIS is a big contributor. You are absolutely bang on about KZreadrs who have expected too much of this camera as doing video. A few KZreadrs have used the R6 to produce cinematic videos and works well. It's just that it doesn't have 8k.

    Great video.(Especially color) I had used RX1R2 before. Raw file was over 80 megabyte, C-Raw was 40. because of 42MP sensor. so that I had to little more patient to driving Lightroom. In a way, this is moderate. I think this would be the best camera for amateur and normal people like me. except price.

    Hey, Mitch! Thanks on this review. I am looking to upgrade 2-camera hybrid setup to use with my EF lenses. I shoot professionally 70% video 30% photo, and need a solid hybrid cameras to last me next 3-5 years. Narrowed it down to 3 cameras: R5, R6 and X-T4 (with Fringer adapter). My main question is would you recommend R6 to use as a main video camera if I am not shooting long 4k clips over X-T4? Ive heard many negatives on R6, like too warm white balance, bad video AF, etc, in Potato Jet video. For me it is important to be reliable enough for run and videography and that it's easy to cut between other Canon cameras on shoots without having to adjust colors later. What do you think could you recommend it for that?

  • @MitchLally

    @MitchLally

    3 жыл бұрын

    No hate on Potato Jet but I just couldn't understand his evaluation of the camera.. I actually experience quite the opposite to him. This 'warm white balance' thing is a non-issue.. I have no idea why people are saying this... Theres nothing else I can recommend other than if you need multiple bodies just fork out the cash to buy the same model - you're otherwise never going to be able to 'colour match' them all - trust me I've tried many times in my career to do this - at one point I owned three 5D mark III's and it was heaven! haha. I wouldn't trust the af tracking with the fringer adapter so my recommendation is to go for 2x R6 bodies. If you're worried about what these other youtubers are saying just go rent the R6 for a few days and see how you feel about it.

    Hey Mitch, i have been following you since you appeared in one of the Hayden's photo battles and i love the color grading and unique style of editing you do with your videos and photos. i am a user of canon camera too the canon 77d. but i am really confused in between R6 and Sony a7iv right now.. as my most of the work is making content for my clients in food industry. i am a bit in dilemma whether i should go out of ECO system as i love the canon and their color science... or should i just leave the ECO system and try the new sony a7Iv as the tech is new and all say that sony is better in the video.

On which of the two subjects will the camera focus? For such situations, is it possible to tell the camera to keep focus on the original subject or to automatically transfer focus to the second subject ?

    Since you mentioned the 1080 looks great - How is the editing 1080P 10 Bit 422. Is that h265 and slow to edit ? Sounds like you worked with Xt4. How is the 1080P 10 422 R6 compared to the Xt4 1080p 10 bit 420. I will keep my R for landscape photos but I need something for photos and video with good IBIS and good high bitrate 1080p for hybrid shooting. Invested in Canon lenses mostly EF-L with RF 24-105 and the 35F1.8 and the 85 F2 coming soon.

  • @MitchLally

    The 1080 also needs transcoding to edit. In my opinion xt4 1080 and r6 are neck and neck. The R6 seems to have zero banding in 422 though which I can’t say for any other mirrorless camera including the xt4.

    Very good review. I‘m new to use professional camera. I'm using R6 as well. But I met some issues on this new camera. 1. When I shooting during the night, it seems that use low shutter speed and low iso will create more noise when use higher iso and higher shutter speed. Especially when I check RAW images in lightroom. But when I output jpg file the noise will be reduced automatically. So does shutter speed increase noise and transfer raw to jpg will reduce? 2. It seems that too sensitive autofocus sometimes makes my video focus not stable as it always try to focus on new objectives when . I don't know if it is due to my focus setting or a common issue. My lens is RF 24-70 f/2.8. Thanks!

    Most youtube reviewers say the R6 using the 1dx sensor is better than the 5dIv 30mp output with a good lens because the AF and IBIS gives you very sharp in focus and stabilized exposures. Ken Rockwell observed vs. the R5 45mp there is only a 30% linear difference in visible Megapixels, and Mr. Rockwell says you can't see the difference vs. 24 and 30 mp.

    Hey Mitch! Been following you for a while now. I know you used to be a Fuji Shooter as well. I am currently on two XT3 Setup for weddings and thinking about switching to two R6 or an R6 and R ... How much of a difference is the image quality compared to Fuji for you? Especially talking about high ISO (eg. in dark churches), sharpness and bokeh? Plus I guess the face autofocus is way better on the Canon right?

  • @MitchLally

    The R6 is a great wedding camera. I can recommend it. You’ll get a little bit better low light. Image quality difference is slight - too close to call it either way but I like the lens selection of Canon better. A lot of people rave about fuji’s lenses - they are good but their 1.4 primes arent as sharp as many of the canon mount offerings. Autofocus you’re gonna see a massive difference in favour of the Canon.

    @@MitchLally thank so much! I am kinda surprised ... my limit on fuji is 3200 ISO and I have seen reviews talking you can easily use 10000 iso on the R6. The tipping point for me was wedding in a dark church. I don't want to use a flash in intimate situation like this and the 3200 Iso files on the fuji were really bad

    It will continually focus while you compose your shot - rather than focusing once (one shot). If your camera or model moves between focus acquisition and shutter actuation you can have an out of focus shot (sometimes happens for moving subjects especially).

  • @ConnorwHibbs
    @ConnorwHibbs3 жыл бұрын

    I only got mine this week, but so far the first two shoots I have done have felt like a bit of a struggle. The eye focus worked some times, but often it would randomly focus on other parts of the frame and have trouble finding focus again. Either that or it just didn’t seem to be able to find the faces. I decided after this second shoot that the touch and drag focus may be a part of the problem as I’m left eye dominant so it seems possible that my nose was hitting the lcd and making the camera think I wanted it to focus elsewhere. The first session was the same day that I got the camera, so I don’t doubt that I just may not have dialed in settings too well, and my second session had a lot of back lighting from the sun and a teenager who had transitions lenses that may have made the eye focus an extra challenge. Have you had any trouble with the camera just not finding eyes/faces in certain situations?

  • @davidlee7094

    @davidlee7094

    @Connor Hibbs Make sure AF operation is set to servo. AF method must be face+tracking, zone af, or large zone Af. Subject to detect set to people or animals as appropriate. Eye detection set to enable. I configure the joystick to control moving AF points but touch and drag also works. In either case set initial AF POINT for tracking on purple screen 5 to use manually selected point in tracking mode. I press the joystick in to centre the start point. You can use touch and drag to achieve the same. If you find your cheek is enabling moving focus points try using a different part of the screen for touch and drag and experiment with absolute and relative. I find that unless the subject is close and large in the frame eye detection can be hit and miss. Download the advanced manual from the Canon support site. It explains most of the many factors that influence effective eye detection. The R6 is my first mirrorless camera and it took me a few days to adjust, just persevere and you'll get there. Good luck.

    What's your opinion on using the Atomos Ninja V with R6? It gets rid of the recordlimit and the overheating and also gives you the options of better codecs. This should make the R6 way more usable as a video camera. People told me to get the Sony A7S III but I really hate Sony's usability. Btw. what camera and lens did you use for this video? It looks so smooth and relaxed.

    @@ElBoyoElectronico I would argue that the h265 codec is actually a great codec to aquire in. It’s not a quick editing solution like pro-res in the ninja V but it looks fucking fantastic. I honestly don’t touch external recorders - I think they’re way overhyped. You probably think you need 10 bit 4:2:2 but in reality you definitely don’t. My guess is you probably show your videos on the internet mainly - which doesn’t even display 10 bit or 4:2:2. The idea that these codecs have ‘higher quality’ is only in a technical sense not a practical sense - put the two videos side by side and I doubt anyone (even a professional) will tell the difference. I would go with the R6 - best in class autofocus and great colours sooc.
