Thanks for the tutorial, which unfortunately I only looked at after the upgrade. I wanted to download photos to my tablet and the application alerted me to upgrade 1.8.2 > 1.8.3. I had 50% batteries in both the tablet and the camera. It didn't even occur to me that I should format the SD card. However, I had enough free memory there. The upgrade was completed successfully.

It doesn't matter where you get it from...matter of facts when there's a new update and I don't get the notification in the app I just download it from Canon USA.

Yes. Don't be concerned if it takes a bit of time to actually start the update when you haven't already done the previous ones. And, if you're doing it for the first time, it will take quite a few minutes to update. As the screen will say, don't touch anything on the camera and let it do its thing. As Dan said, set the camera to P and remove the lens for the exercise.

If you haven't noticed anything weird after the update...it means everything's fine but next time make sure you disconnect the lens before the process....if Canon recommends to do so, I'm sure there's a good reason and we don't want to risk it.
Be careful with your cell phone battery too
What do you do if the pop up doesn’t come up on the app to update the firmware?

just enter in the menu clicking the 3 lines on the top left of the screen, go to firmware and it will tell you if there's a new firmware
Anyone tried firmvare 1.8.4? It's been out since two weeks ago, but absolutely no feedback yet?
