Awesome vid and great paddling skills. And many thanks for not having an outrageous sound track... the sound of the rushing water and waves was perfect!

merci beaucoup Luc. The trip was in October 2016, we enjoyed water levels between 9,000 and 13,000 CFS depending on the dam release.

Sick video; thx. I'm just wondering - why don't solo ww canoeists use double-paddles? I bet there's a technical reason I'm missing.

A Aizner a double bladed paddle would be better, but it takes away the point of canoeing.

Morgan Harper What IS, ostensibly, the point of canoeing, and how is it different from the point of ww kayaking or packrafting, which I always thought was to navigate rapids in/with the best available equipment?

@@aaizner847 Your question is a good one. The answer is not quite as simple as stated previously but close. Canoeing is based on the original First Nation concepts and subsequent voyagers who collected fur and brought them back for sale. The early canoes typically used one bladed paddles and the vary large freight hauling canoes were too wide for double blades. You see similar in Polynesian paddling. Single blades. Form following function. From there, it was the norm to use the typical canoe paddle although boats like the Wee Lassie and others were made to use double blades, and because you sit down low in the Wee Lassie style boats, it is difficult to paddle using a canoe paddle, hence 2 blades. In a typical canoe you can (and people, myself included have, esp during a really windy river trip) use a kayak paddle. In my whitewater canoes I use a canoe paddle because of the tradition and because it is more challenging than using a kayak paddle. I'm a canoe instructor and paddle kayaks occasionally. I have found that it quite a bit easier to learn/teach kayak than canoe. The paddle is the difference. The benefits of single blade is that you can transfer the knowledge more readily to kayak than vice-versa. This is a long answer to say that is based on tradition and wanting a more challenging and esoteric way to paddle. In reality, I like all the boats

Kayaks typically also have air bags in them. The bags are to displace water during a capsize. So no it's not the same as paddling a kayak as it feels much different and it's just a personal preference .
