Canoeing on Lake Manly in Death Valley's Badwater Basin With Better Call Paul

Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #776
Date of adventure: 2/19/24
Ancient Lake Manly dried up 10,000 years ago... but thanks to last summer's monsoons, it temporarily reappeared! And because of the recent rains from the atmospheric river, it's now deep enough to kayak in! So my friend Paul invited me to join him as he brought his canoe out to Badwater Basin, and attempted to float on this prehistoric lake.

LOL What a pleasant surprise with Paul and his canoe, he is ready for anything cause he's a Marine. Nice lunch stop at the world famous Shoshone Crowbar Cafe . Great visit there Sarah. Enjoy your next trip south.

@@hestheMaster7 Miles long was at it's largest. Mountain snow melt? I suppose that would depend on the watershed of the mountain. I believe it was the torrential rains. Wind evaporates the water faster, but yes, the wind actually pushed a lot of the water to the end in the direction the wind was blowing. Pretty amazing stuff.

As someone who grew up a half hour from the Atlantic ocean I've had enough of sand and salt water, my father loved taking me and my two sisters to Sandy Hook New Jersey Island Beach State Park or seaside every chance he had, my mother would make sandwiches a gallon of iced tea we'd load up te old DeSoto with chairs umbrellas toys everything we needed for a day at the beach, when we ot home we'd all take turns taking a bath in our clawfoot tub with the same water, we didn't have a shower.

Hey Wonderhussy!👋🥰 At 6:49 Back in the late 60's and early 70's, my Dad and I would move our Aluminum, Grumman Sport canoe from the truck to the water with a wheel set up that would clamp to the back transom. (You can hang an outboard motor on the Grumman as it has a flat transom at the rear)! People would look at us a little funny too, but we didn't give care about what they thought, we were having a great time all over Oregon and Washington states! Was about 12 years old one summer when we were out on a Lake, when we had a conversation with 2 young women (College) in their canoe. My Dad definitely scored some points with me that day by going over to talk to them, as they were both Topless! 😁 Good Dad! 👍 Mike in San Diego. 🌞🎸🚀🖖

One summer years back a man walked away from his car and hiked out on that hard salt field of salt crystals and collapsed from the heat. When the search team found him he was of course dead. But the amazing thing is what state it was said his body was found in. The water in his body was said to had been drawn off by the salt beds he was laying on. It was said he was so dry his bones could be heard to rattle inside his body as they carried him off. Or so I heard.

Paul gets an A for effort. Curious, I saw a tiny little building with windows that couldn't be used for much given it's size at the bottom of your road (at the end of the video). What is the story/history of that odd tiny little building that looks like it might have served as a guard house? Is it just an old preserved outhouse?
