What if medical cannabis could be a cure to most severe diseases, such as cancer or AIDS?

While i wholeheartedly agree with total legalization and normalization of cannabis, i am against this pseudoscientific glorification of cannabis. It is IMPOSSIBLE that cannabis can "cure cancer" (ie selectively kill cancerous cells?) or "cure AIDS" (ie selectively destroy viral DNA embedded in human cells?). These claims are laughable. Cannabis should be treated like any other recreational drug: nicotine, caffeine, alcohol. They have benefits and risks.

I agree but would add, it's the combustion by-products from smoking tobacco and weed that are unhealthy and potentially carcinogenic. "End of discussion." That's the real problem. People who like weed so much they don't want to hear the negative side to their drug of choice. There are numerous studies showing marijuanas negative effects on the developing brain. There are studies showing it increases biomarkers which correlate with Schizophrenia. There are studies which show it causes emotional blunting. There are studies showing it's even worse than cigarettes when smoked (this consequence could be prevented though by adjusting of ROA). Still, enough evidence showing marijuana should be used in moderation by the gross amount of people and prevented from being used by the younger ones. Stop saying it's a gift from god. This is real life. There ain't no deal with heaven. All things have good and bad sides to them. Face it.

I started smoking weed as a rebellious teenager & and without even realising it I was seizure free for 4 years. I then married a rather straight laced young lady & started medication again. Of course break through seizures occurred again. Thankfully I managed to find a good neurologist & slowly found a regime of meds that works, EXCEPT for partial complex seizures. As such, I'm seriously considering starting the weed again. Problem being Australia does not have legal use of the natural resource & only medicinal for severe cases. As part of the medication management, I have to have a liver function test annually, as the meds damage the liver over time. I can't see weed doing such damage.

The symptom ameliorating effects of pot are only scientifically detectable for a month or up to 6 weeks, then people take pot to keep from feeling the effects of withdrawing from it. If you've been using pot for more than 6 weeks, the benefits you think you are feeling are due to not going through withdrawal and due tot he placebo effect. Smoking is definitely not for me. I'm 70 and can't sleep, CBD was working. But currently experimenting with 1:1 cbd/thc gummies and thc gummies and 1:1 drops. The 1:1 drops put me to sleep better and if I wake up too soon put me back to sleep, no over sleeping like with Unisom and no hangover/afternoon rebound with Tylenol pm. I don't want to get high. I just want to sleep!

I started researching this plant 3 years ago... I grew the plant, and learnt all I could, I now make my own oil drops, gummies, and skincare... because I found it to be tremendously helpful for sun damaged skin... It is a good mood enhancer, helps with sleep, and deep muscle relaxation especially the (indica) cultivar. I think anyone over 50 should try it... I am not a doctor but I wish more doctors would study this great potential ... Also the applications for this plant are incredible... makes great fabrics, ropes, canvas, bricks, building etc... I think it has huge commercial value.

To live in fear of a plant, was the primary foundation of my contempt for the authorities...who really didn't have an open mind or a curiosity to learn more...or a respect for other people's right to chose for themselves what they will induce into their own body. Government infringement on diet and medicine (substances) is the height of folly and shows smug malice, especially in the absence of any legitimate complaints or concerns involving negative effects of THC consumption. Cannabis affects self control, and so in those with emotional issues is associated with violent outbursts. In such people there is an association with cannabis use and domestic abuse. Just to be clear; cannabis only causes violent people to be more violent just as alcohol does. Most medications are derived from natural sources or are synthetic analogs. Approximately 90% of plants on earth contain chemicals that are toxic to humans, and so the idea of something being "natural" is implicitly safe is nonsense!

Now that it’s been decriminalized for people like your self, the opiate deaths are dropping more. We have really trashy dealers too,who snitch and stomp on their weed with dangerous drugs. That’s how my son died at age 31. The pot was laced with pure heroin. Based on his death, the largest and longest protest took place against heroin in our county and it started a movement. Patients are boycotting opiate too. I highly recommend you find a state which allows personal use and to grow 5 plants in a well contained structure out of sight from childre and 1000 feet from a school or church. . It would make more sense to allow people to buy drugs from regulated outlets aimed at those that have drug additions, not for profit to to prevent crime help those who have drug addictions. I pray that one day the UK government finally sees sense and stops prohibition laws against weed if not all drugs. But Im realistic enough to know it isnt going to happen any time soon. Its gonna take at least until my parents generation leaves the voting pool. The brainwashing runs too deep and no political party wants to run the risk of upsetting the ignorant masses.

Completely agree. But since when has our government ever seen sense!? It's all about votes, not sense. I think it was the Tories who brought in a professor to examine cannabis and it's effects on a scientific level then publish the results, but because the results were almost nothing but positive, they sacked him! Idiots.

Medical cannabis is legal in the UK. There are many clinics that offer a diagnostic and prescription service, most have associated pharmacies who supply cannabis and cannabis based therapies. Google Alternaleaf, good luck.

CBD is really helping me right now with a stomach issue, gastritis. Not taking all pain away but big part of it and I am also getting appetite back, which was gone for 2 months and regular hospital couldn't help me with that.

Im a medical professional who sufferred a major injury in Colorado. I used cannibus during that time - 1. it works for pain like medicine and pts should immediately have access 2. it does effect ur memory a lot and makes it harder to do certain jobs. Both are correct. 3. it could and should be used for opiate withdrawl 4. noone should go to jail for it

The prohibition in the US was supported by the petroleum/petrochemical industry as you can make various materials/substances from hemp (plastic, fuel...they even made a lightweight car) so it was in their interest to make full prohibition to avoid any competition.
