Candlepin Bowling - John Czernicki vs. Dick O'Connell (Higher Quality)

(Re-uploaded in higher quality and in HD. Also fixed a delayed sound issue from the previous time I uploaded this. The original upload is still here if you would like to view it: • Candlepin Bowling - Di... ) Air date: 6/17/1989. This was the 3rd overall week in Dick O'Connell's memorable run he had heading into the Summer of 1989 on Channel 5, with John Czernicki being his opponent in this match.
Pins flew in this match along with great shot making from both bowlers, leading to high scores all around down the stretch and also preparing one of the bowlers for Charlie Jutras the next week on the program.
Hope you all enjoy, R.I.P. to all the people mainly involved in this telecast (Don Gillis, John Czernicki and Dick O'Connell) :(

Don does a good job in the intro here pointing out that the smaller trophy wasn't just a consolation prize, you still had to win one of those 5-string rolloffs to get on TV in the first place.

Once again. Thank you for posting these matches. It reminds me of Saturday afternoons with my grandfather. (Pepe`)

At the 8:58 mark Don Gillis mentions John Czernicki representing the Mohegan Bowl o Drome in Webster. It was at Mohegan where I bowled candlepins for the first time.

I’ve known about candlepin bowling for a long time, but only saw it when I found these videos. I read the rules so I could understand everything I was watching. However, there is one item I didn’t find in the rules. There is a deadwood line, but where is it? How far from the spot for the head pin?

24 inches forward of the center of the head pin. Wood that rolls out beyond it, or is touching it, must be removed. Wood remaining behind the line is allowed to remain. The line isn’t really visible from far away but you can see it if you go down near the pin deck.
