I just visited Fort George yesterday, even though it's closed for the winter so none of the staff were there and all the buildings were closed. It's a remarkable feeling to look over the river and across to the US from atop the earthworks. While the current fort is a 1930s reconstruction, much remains, including a marker over Brock's initial burial site and many abandoned canons. It was fun looking through the gun-holes in the picketing! I'm so proud of that part of our history.

Issac Brock was actually leading the Soldiers , as he is marching forwarding and a gunshot was heard , he took a shot above the right limb and went through his chest that causes him to fall , 3 man were dragging him to cover as Canadians and Britain’s were charging.

Sir Isaac Brock is a Canadian hero and legend.

+Alan Herderson Fair point. Technically, Canada didn't even exist as a distinct political entity until July 1, 1868, when the British colonies federated, forming the Canadian Confederation. Even then it remained part of the British Empire unti the ratification of the Statute of Westminster on December 11, 1931, when it became independant.

Well it actually gained its independence on July 1st. But Canada was called Canada not as colonies the name it held was The dominion of Canada but technically it was a British Colony.

79tazman I agree. Brock and Tecumseh are Canadian heroes and legends because of it. I think if both had survived the war and continued on their leadership routes, relations between Canadians and Indigenous people would've been better. Brock was a man who lived up to his promises.

@@TheIceman567 Madison was in power and the war was about a number grievances; the harassment of the US merchant marine and the impressment of US sailors into His Majesty's Royal Navy being one of the hottest issues. There were a number of elements that wanted to see Britain off of the continent altogether and counted on it being as simple as Jefferson had pointed out before. There, I stand corrected.

@@TheIceman567 Never said he "saved Canada". Brock was a mere rallying point, a much needed hero for forces that were drastically outnumbered and made up largely of militia. It was actually Scheaffe who carried the day at Queenston, but there is little emphasis on that. Brock's most notable victories could be brought down to sheer luck in some cases and the result of incompetence on the part of his American counterparts in others whose leadership was made up of largely ineffective old-guard fighters from the revolutionary war who found themselves in their respective roles as the consequence of political favours. Fact is, he was audacious, became a folk hero and was revered by both sides.

fun fact, brock hated canada, called it a back water swamp and wanted to go back to england

It's a beautiful sight in reality. circa 19th Century Canadian Merc: " Come on over in your wobbly ships. We pick you off with our ranger and cannon barrage. Redan Fire!" So, this is Canada now. Glory to USA!!! Liberty!! Remember the French who helped you get your Independance. What history. Things always come together in the end. Sir Issac Brock was born in Guernsey (the channel Islands) which isn't in the UK, its a crown dependency and is fully autonomous. I know, I'm from Guernsey. Also on a side note Guernsey people aren't English, we are former Norman french people who to keep it simple "became" British but that doesn't make us English."George Prevost" is a Guernsey fFench/Norman name and isn't pronounced "prev-ost" or "pre-vost" its "prev-o" and would have originally been "Le Prevost" which is still a very common name in Guernsey and Normandy.Its funny that Sir Issac brock being from Guernsey worked under George Prevost who wasn't even from Guernsey but has an iconic Norman/Guernsey french name which is extremely uncommon outside of Guernsey, Guernsey only has 65,000 people now even less then so what are the chances. Autonomous or not, it is still part of Britain. Autonomy isn't the same as independence. It is a Crown Dependency. Since it is autonomous, it enjoys greater self-rule then most British territories, but Britain still controls the military defense and the majority of foreign relations, which means it isn't truly independent like a state with a Compact of Free Association.

Firstly it isn't part of Britain, Britain is a geographical term not a political one, perhaps you mean the UK? TO which we are not part either. We are part of the British Isles but that is as close as we get to being part of either the UK or Britain. As for defense, they are not in charge of it, every year the Ministry of defense come to the states of Guernsey and ask for £50 million for protection in case of war, we are not bound to accept it. As for foreign relations once again its up to us what they handle and what they don't. Being an international finance center we have good relations with most major countries in the world and represent ourselves as we have vastly different needs to the UK government.

Not always. In the end, the natives list the Indian Wars. Plus, we have achieved some things through working together with the Native Americans. The Apache, were also invaluable allies. Their warriors and their descendants have made invaluable contributions to the Armed Forces. Even during the War of 1812, when most tribes sided with the British, the Inited States benefitted from the aid of some tribes. The Cherokee, who had sided with the British during the American Revolutionary War, sided with the United States in the War of 1812, as did the Choctaw and part of the Creek tribe. They mostly fought tribes allied with the British, rather than the British themselves, so Canadians wouldn't be familiar with that part of the war.

Brock must have pissed off someone above him or he wouldn't have been in Canada at all. It wasn't a glamour posting. He probably hated the place. I am sure he had no intention of getting killed.
