    Very informative video, I was just wondering if the same rules apply to a car that had a door repainted and clearcoated at a dealership? It’s a brand new car and I would rather leave it dusty for 30 days or more and not ruin the paint and clear-coat. Thought I’d see if you had anything to suggest about that. Thanks again!

My question is though, I was told not to wax or buff for 60+ days but on the ride home it was a 30 minute ride through backroads and I hit some bugs that left their debris on the hood, can I wash it off safely and if I don’t will the marks stay permanently?

    So we got my mothers SUV back from the body shop today. I asked the guys that did the work how long I should wait before I can wash and put a sealant on the paint. They didn't hesitate for a second, they said it was safe to wash now but DO NOT put a wax or sealant on it for 90 days. 90 days is on the long side, but they are probably being overly cautious since the work has a life time warranty as long as she owns the vehicle and they don't want to have to paint it again.

    Great video Scott; I have a question: I recently had a vehicle repainted and the shop applied wax after two days. Is the paint ruined, and will it need to be redone? Or can the car paint eventually cure completely and harden? Does the was stop the curing process or simply slow it down?

    old comment, but I will comment here for future users. It can damage paint, not always though. If waxing too soon, without outgassing of fresh paint, there is a possibility of poor bonding and flaking if the painted portion was ever damaged. There is a lot of variables that will contribute to this though. How much has cured, how well the painter took care of the first layer (sanding, primer, etc) and how fast it was applied. Slower between layers and amount, the better, but more time consuming which some painters rush.

  • @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343

    @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343

    Hydrate plastic or vinyl?? Heat is the biggest reason for cracking..I would keep it clean and you can use 303 protection, 303 recommends applying at least once a month for maximum "protection".. In Dallas I use a interior windshield shield because most car windshield can block uv light so having something on the inside of the windshield to block heat is vital to preventing cracking

  • @donstevens7847

    @donstevens7847

    5 жыл бұрын

    Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing oh ok, I thought the reason for cracking was the plastic/vinyl off gassing all of the petroleum products and becoming brittle and unable to expand and contract with temperature changes. I’m sure hydrate is the wrong term to use. Anyway I will try the 303, thanks Scott!

    Keep in mind there is a difference between a new car's factory paint (which is fully cured and able to be sealed/waxed, etc.) and auto body paint jobs (aftermarket if you will) needed due to some body work done on the car. The latter is what Scott is discussing.

    it depends on the type of paint used to repaint the panel or the entire car most body shops use acrylic lacquer to either spot paint ,paint the entire panel or the entire car now acrylic lacquer dries by evaporation so in four hours the paint can be compounded and the returned to the owner the lacquer will be fully cured in twenty four hours. now acrylic enamel dries by oxidation and will take sixty days to cure after the twenty four hours you can sand off the lacquer if need be do body work repair. however the enamel in twenty four hours will only be dry to the touch and cannot be sanded or corrected before sixty days unless an hardener for enamel is used like dxr80 so a sealant can be put over acrylic lacquer after twenty four hours

    Again, a case of the more I learn the less I know. Scotts recommendation is pretty much widely accepted but if you watch Jason Rose Rupes training as uploaded by Obsessed Garage, "RUPES Product Series: E7", at the 20 minute mark there is a discussion about this very topic which claims paints have changed and are fully cured much quicker than even as recently as 10 years ago. So, once again, who knows! I don't want to step on Scott's toes but if you're told something different by your autobody guy, this explains why...

  • @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343

    @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343

    5 жыл бұрын

    Jason Rose may be correct to some extent but not all body shops use the same paints.. Also applying a wax or sealant doesn't provide uv protection so his claim of the paint may be harmed if you don't apply a wax or sealant is interesting:) The clear coat provides your maximum protection and waxes and sealants can't compete.. He could be referring to water spots or bird droppings as a potential harm to the paint and this glaze will help with that.. I have just seen in Dallas about 6 months ago damage to the paint from applying a sealant to early:( It's a good rule of thumb to wait but if you feel Jason's recommendation works for you I will honor that.. I would precede with caution

    If you watch Larry of Ammo NYC's video "most insane paint job ever" , at the 4:00 mark the guys doing his paint job also explain the "gas out" and "drying" process. It seems that it there are a lot of variables when it comes to this. In Larry's video his porsche was ready for clear bra and or waxing after seven days, but that was due to the process the painters used. My mother is getting body work done right now, and when she gets it back, I am going to err on the side of caution and wait 60 days before I put UFF on it. This is about perfect since the washing season will be pretty much over by then. But in that video Larry does also say what Scott says, if its your standard autobody paint job, 60-90 days is still a good idea.

    There are certain types of paints out there that you can wax almost immediately after. But then plan on adding $1,000 to your paint job. I know this because Ijust got through restoring a 1970 Dodge Challenger. They asked me if I wanted that kind paint and I told them they can keep it For the extra $1,000. And no, insurance companies will not pay for that type of paint...
