We did some trials with single and multi wire, both solid wire and metal-cored wire, with laser, like this machine but higher wattage. Penetration is really good. Vertical @ a 45 degree angle, dragging the weld upwards had the best results. It is good for small fillet weld sizes, lap joints up to 4 mm, pushing 6 mm. Above 6 mm, it competes against other arc welding processes. Stops and starts are harder to get right. You cannot hang around and melt a tie-in. Once you start the laser weld, you need to complete the weld. This process has it's place, most definitely for sheet metal, automotive and production work with. Just sharing my experience.

If you know how to stick weld, then MIG is a piece of cake if your settings are right. You can give this to someone off the street and they can produce a quality weld. I'm pretty impressed with the penetration. Definitely cool to have in a shop if you can afford it.

I looked at some that are out on the market and its not a simple small jobs tool unless your doing this every day. What I guess I am trying to say is the cost of one of these machines is quite a bit more than a mig or tig set up. This is the biggest one so far that i have seen doing something and it is very impressive. What I did see was one designed for sheet metal on vehicles which are a lot more complicated and not near the penetration or quality for a beginner. Any shop doing major fab work would enjoy using it. Would of enjoyed seeing how well the lazer rust and other stuff it can remove. The one I did see was okayish but again, not even close to this machine. I do believe their machine was in the five thousand dollar machine.... like "Vevor" quality which is kind of harbor freight range. Just guessing this is north of a hundred thousand dollars...thats just a guess and probably a way off guess

For sheet metal even the $5000 machines really are a “game changer”, they put so little heat into the weld that panel distortion is basically no longer an issue. The only potential issue is that fit-up has to be bang on, they can’t fill more than the diameter of the filler wire.

These things are truly extraordinary! And y'all didn't even go into how they can CLEAN metals also!? I'm so happy to be alive at a time where technology is making things like THIS^^^ possible. And if I understand it correctly, it's a very similar LASER technoclogy that is making the 3D printing of metals possible!? Which is just 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

@@stusue9733 No lol. Laser cleaning with that kind of laser source will remove rust and other stuff but will damage the substrate; Only microscopic though. So if you would laserclean and then paint; your paint will fall off after a few weeks/months. There's specific laser cleaners if that's what ur looking for. This still remains a laserwelder.
