Can You Repent and Confess Too Much?

I respond to a question sent into to me about repentance and confession. Her journey expresses the blessing of repentance, but she now wonders if she is focused too much on excessive repentance and confession for any possible sin issue that may be present. Do you find that repentance and confession are distorted subjects in your life? Are you wondering if you need a more grounded perspective when it comes to the role of repentance in your life?
I pray as I address this question, what I share adds great love, grace and empowerment to your journey.

I also say this to the woman: God requires nothing from you for salvation. Jesus took care of the justice and He is the one who strengthens your faith.

I can relate to all of this. I struggle. I am always reminded of Chunk's Confession. (The Goonies...) Pretty much that's me all the time. Boy, I realize I struggle with perfectionism (and I don't want to!) and OCD. Thanks Mark.

What you said about not handling it… “He who began a good work in you…” It’s now occurred to me that when you’re immediately fixed you’re not used to it, so you become fearful or think you know best. The best thing is to live it.

At 14:00 you spoke a word! We can’t be delivered from everything by at once….I think so many preachers preach change now or miss out on heaven and it literally debilitates people. When you think about it most people have more than one thing they’re praying for and more than likely we won’t heal from all of them at once..it’s insane to think that way but that’s what a lot of preachers have inflicted on believers!

I pray for this man and his family. God has used Mark to really enlighten me and truly help my own intimate walk with Christ day to day. I have grown more in just being intentional about receiving Gods love for me each day. May God continue to use you in showing us the freedom God has already made available to us by knowing the Truth.

I am a new subscriber to your channel and listening from Antigua. Thank you so much for your ministry. Your teachings have helped me a lot since I started listening. I grew up without a father and a very narcissistic abusive mother with mental health issues. Nothing I did was ever good enough and so it lead me into a performance/perfectionistic based Christianity. However, with God's help I have been able to work through and find inner healing for so many of my childhood issues, but I still stuggle with perfectionism. I now know it is rooted in the fear of rejection, which paralyzed me for many years and still from time to time want to raise it's ugly head to suffocate me. Please for me to as I learn to receive God's unconditional love and find my identity in him. Thanks again!

For what? Confession does not save us, Yahweh does. Repentance does not save us. We do those as a result of being saved, not to get him to save us. If we could get him to save us, that would be works salvation.

Heaven entry is not based upon not sinning, but on whether one has been redeemed and washed in Jesus’ blood. We have to change our mind about our sin to accept Jesus as the sacrifice for us. He took our punishment, so He could forgive anyone who accepts Him and give them eternal life. And then He keeps them for ever and grows them along the way to become more like Him. We can’t be perfect. He never said people wouldn’t sin after salvation. No one could ever be good enough. That why Jesus died. When God looks at believers, He see Jesus’ righteousness.
