Wow, now I feel better: I totally managed a draw in the one I was supposed to win ! Okay, the other two I got beat and couldn't even understand why, but at least I can save a draw in a winning position :)
Very interesting, very tricky, and very enjoyable. I lose all these 3.

I did first one draw second one win and third one loss
You got me with position 2 I thought that was winning and position 3 was losing. I have not seen that pawn mate before I will be looking for it in the future now 😂
Wow I thought that first position was an easy draw with stalemate. I didn't see how on earth we could win after black takes our advanced G pawn with check, but that is really nice. I guessed the middle one was winning even though I wasn't sure because 2 advanced pawns often beats a rook
7:35 Wanted to mention that after plays Kg5, black's only move to win is d3, because Ke3 is too slow. 8:00 black can also plays the variation you showed at the beginning, since white can't get to e5 in time. Also, I correctly evaluated the positions, but only because they were problems, I knew they wouldn't be what we first think they are. Solved the 1st one, couldn't get the 2nd one on my own, and partly solved the last one, but missed a lot of things

Thanks for the thorough analysis :)
I like your videos a lot. Congrats for the nice entertainment and learnings. Both thumbs up!
1. Draw: after xh6 Kxh6, Kxf6 and black is locked in a box 2. Win: What is the rook gonna do against those pawns? Mate can easily be blocked with check 3. Loss: the king is just too far away

Love this format!
That was painfully educational🤯 .... beautiful puzzle🙂
Wohoo, a new quiz:-) thank you Dude!
In position 3 @9:15, I was curious what would happen if the black king moved to c4 instead, but after plugging it into Stockfish and playing around, it is indeed drawn since the black king has to decide to go "north" or "south" around the black pawn, and both paths are long enough to allow white time to avoid getting boxed out. Very cool.
good job, Nelson👍
The first one is a pretty straight forward win: 1. g6 fxg6+ 2. Kxf6 g5 3. Kf5 g4 4. hxg4# The second one is a loss. There are six legal moves (including underpromotions) at the starting position and only two sensible ones: b5+ and h6. 1. b5+ Kc5 2. b6 Kc4 with the idea of Rg5#, the only defence is 3. g8=Q+/R/B+ Rxg8 and Rg5# on the next move. However, there is also h6 after Kc5 which took me a decent amount of time to crack. 2. h6 Rg6 3. h7 Ra6+!! 4. bxa6 b6# (3. b6 Rxb6 4. [any promotion] Ra6#) And there is still another move in the starting position which almost transposes into the previous line. 1. h6 Rg5+ 2. b5+ Kc5 3. h7 Rg6 4. [g8=anything or h8=anything] Ra6+ 5. bxa6 b6# (4. b6 Rxb6 5. [any move] Ra6#). The third one didn't look like a draw to me at the first glance because the white's king is too far away from the pawns but now I know for sure that this must be a draw. 1. Kg3 Kc4 2. Kf4 Kc3 3. Ke5 basically forcing a trade of c and d pawns, a and d pawns or repetition. Trade of c and d pawns line: 3. ... Kxc2 4. Kxd4 Kb2 5. Kc4 Kxa2 6. Kxb4 1/2 - 1/2 Trade of a and d pawns line: 3. ... Kb2 4. Kxd4 Kxa2 5. Kc4 and it's a dead draw. And the repetition is something like 3. ... Kc4 4. Ke4 Kc3 5. Kd4 Kc4 6. Ke4 Kc3 7. Kd4 1/2 - 1/2
Position 1 was easy to figure out. There's only a few possibilities for the first move. Once you say "let's try g6", you can find the checkmate in a few minutes. However, I could not decide between positions 2 and 3. I didn't see the checkmate pattern in position 2 and position 3 was much more complex. I've always been bad at pawn endings haha
4:03 losing like that is like Man Utd losing to already relegated Sheffield Utd by 0-1 having dominated most of the match .
0/3 but that was still a good time. awesome content!
tricky and amazing end games
I like videos like this. Keep up the good work!
-I got the second one right -I also maybe guessed I'd lose in all 3
I got the 1st two puzzles, but the 3rd one I did not. Great job AGAIN, Nelson.
Can you please make a video in the future about what is the top endgame plans? I am struggling in this concept .😕
At least I did get ...Kg3 right on the last one, but the pawn sac never occurred to me. Great video!
i thought that you could en passant with the black in possition 1
Three beautiful puzzles.
Damn it Nelson, I have an assignment to do, stop distracting me with good content! :)
I think black can play different from 3:19. Black pond b7-b6, check, the only move white king have is a5-a6, then black g5-g7, white can only move h7-h8 and take the queen, but next move g7-a7, checkmate. Correct me, if i made a mistake

Unfortunately the Rook on a7 at the end is unprotected, the white king can just take it.
At first glance, I miscalculated in all three situations. Only when you look into it and do the math do you find out. If the game of chess has taught me one thing, it's that "nothing is what it seems at first look". I love that depth.
Please post advanced level of king and pawn Endgames... It's the most beautiful and difficult of all
1:55 What if u played Pb5 and checked the black king first?
Zok da qok!
The first one you can just move your king up and then game over. You added more steps lol
position 3 black king goes e 4 and is win for black
On the second one isnt b6 pawn a check mate??
@zhongpinggao899
Жыл бұрын
It’s not because it blocks the rook
I spotted the mate the n position 1 I don't think even magnus could solve position 3
but what if the whites pon could have the option to play en passant for the second one then it would be a win for the white right
The king in white loses for black can also play king to c6 as well
It took me a minute on position 2 white loss is probably not how it would happen even though it is the same loss position. White would move b5b6 to prevent Rg6a6. So Rg6xb6 would happen. White would have to move one of the pawns up then Rb6a6 checkmate.
So I know I'm super late But my thought process for second one ( 1:52 ) was first Pawn to b5 giving a check, most sensible for black is Kc5 And only then pawn h6. This way you open up a way for running out of suffocation. Next black probably would move pawn to b6, giving a check, you move Ka6 Black is probably gonna do Rxa4 taking pawn and giving a check (they can also go Kb4 but I don't see a reason) Slide the white king to b7 and after that, there's no way to stop the pawn from queening and white is probably gonna win. I'd like to know if I'm missing something here (I'm not a high rated player so it's very much possible) even tho this is an old video and I doubt someone will answer

Black don't play b6+ because it gives white room for the king and black would achieve nothing with this check, while white would gain an escape for the king, so this check would give an advantage for white. Never give a check only because there is one, always think about whether it gives you an advantage or not, sometimes it even can give an advantage to your opponent, like in this case. If you try to block the rook: 1. b5+ Kc5 2. h6 Rg6 3. b6 Rxb6 4. g8=Q Ra6# 1. b5+ Kc5 2. b6 Rg5 3. h6 Kc4# If you try to distract with queening: 1. b5+ Kc5 2. h6 Rg6 3. g8=Q Ra6+ or Rxg8 4. bxa6 b6# or h7 Ra8# The line shown in the video was the best white could try.
The first one was easy. In the second one I missed the discovered check mate nad thought I could go Rb6 instead, but that is of course a draw, since White will end up stalemated. In the last one I didn't put up much effocrt. I almost emmideately understood that Kg3 was the correct moved and I saw that Kg4 was losing. However I didn't see the other point about d3 there. I should have spent some more time rather than just one minute on this one because I think I would have been ablle to see all this if I had spent some ten ot twelve minutes instead.
3:45 isn't b6 checkmate after Rg6?
Damn. At least if I had said they were all draws, I'd have gotten one right.
at 3:48 cant white just push the pawn? if the rook moves back down then white gets the queen on g8 and the rook would get captured of the king moved
What happens if White moves his pawns 2 squares. c4 is obviously going to put Black in check, and also suicidal. But what about a4? Can Black's King reach in time to stop it getting away? One thing I've never understood is if a pawn is on it's 5th rank, like Black's pawns in problem 3 are on their 5th rank and have not moved in several moves, does that qualify as a legit En Passant capture for Black's move, or does En Passant have to be the very next move in the game after White moves his pawn beside it? I've never really fully understood that special pawn capturing move, can Chess Vibes go into more detail on this move?
@joachimfrank4134

On a4 the black pawn would just capture as if the pawn had been moved to a3.
That last ting is wrong u lose in if black pushes pawn becuz u just in time but backs gona block ur pawn and leting u stop eating his pawn and still attacking ur pawn

why dont you play b6 in second position
I got the 1, 2 correct although I didn't foresee the whole thing, but the third one was a bit tricky :/
I got all of them
I figured that pos 1 was win but I thought that pos 2 is draw an pos 3 is lose
Well, I got them correct, but not with the right moves XD. The first one was a win by discarding the other two, but couldnt find the moves. Got the other two right at least :D
I actually got one right for once.
I GOT ALL OF THEM CORRECT
Although I guessed correctly all 3 of them on the third one I missed SOOOO MANY possible lines. In a way I said it was a draw just because I found out the outcome of the first 2.
Posistion 1: 1.g6! fxg6 (only) 2. Kxf6! g5 (only) 3.Kf6 g4 4. h:g4#
The first one
Win the first defeatnthe second draw rhe third
In the first position cant the black pawn do en passant?
You didn't cover if white plays b5 as the first move in option 2.

I think the same idea works
@spindoctor6385
2 жыл бұрын
@@eyyayy8260 I have tried my best to work it out, I am not great at this though. The main difference is that the black rook does not gain a check on the king so loses a tempo and the rook also can not move to g6 as the pawn is still on h5 and can just take it. Most ways I work it, white gains a queen. If the rook goes after the pawns on the 7+8 file then the white king can pick up the pawn on the 2 file and protect the two paws to the promotion. Chances are I am missing something, I would like to know what it is.

@@spindoctor6385 After b5 Kc5 white can either play g8 and get mated on the next move after Rg8 Ra8 or play h6 defending the pawn where after Rg6 it transposes into the other line.

I was absolutely surprised by the first one. Win from white from that position? Haha, almost impossible but, hey, white wins 💪😁👏

Glanced at the thumbnail, the one on the right. The king can get around and clean up the pawns.
I found them all.😎😎😎😎😎😎
I loose all the three it was too hard
I got all three right😂 win/lose/draw
I should have bet that all three are losses, so I would at least have had one right :D
I calculated that first is a win, second has to either be a win or loss because it's rook against pawns so I say loss and third is therefore a draw although it looks hard to draw
I said 1 is winning two is losing three is a draw
Fooled me 3 times
2 win 3 lose 1 draw
