except they weren’t truffles, they were lion’s mane mushrooms. truffles would have been waaaaaay to strong to eat like that, and no way would anyone waste them by cooking them on the grill like that and charring them.

@@mkv2718 buddy you are miss understanding. I know the main thing he cooked was lions mane mushrooms. The side dish had truffles in it and in one of the B Roll shots mid way through the video he showed a pile of truffles sitting on a cutting board.

Lion's Mane mushroom is delicious, if a bit finicky to cook. In my experience, the taste is like a cross between beef and shellfish, which is good but requires more planning around than your standard oyster or button mushrooms. They actually sell small growing kits on Amazon, and having used one myself they work pretty well.
I'm a mycologist and recognized it right away. :D Really fun to see you work with Lion's Mane, Guga. More people need to appreciate mushrooms.

For those who’s haven’t had lion main mane mushroom should definitely give it a try. It’s got a nice meaty texture and soaks up flavors well and will crisp if held down when cooked. I’m not a vegan or vegetarian but you gotta accept that good food is still good food.

@@kidrobot.they’re not that hard to find- people were confusing them with truffles, which are insanely expensive. they sell them at my local farmer’s market in the fall for like $10-$15 a box the size of a normal box of portobellos you’d get at the store.

I haven't had lions mane but I've heard this crap about every kind of mushroom at this point and no matter if its some nice boletus or chicken of the woods or whatever else I try it just tastes like slimy nothing I can agree mushroom/yeast can improve a dish because it contains glutamate and other meaty tasting nucleotides/aminoacids but I severely doubt it's any good by itself

as a mostly obligate carnivore i can vouch that some vegan meals are good and mushrooms are a good percent of why i can say this
Very popular here in Chinese vegetarian cuisine. I’m not usually the biggest fan of Chinese vegetarian because the amount of starch/flour used in mock meat, but I sure as heck didn’t miss the meat when I had these Lion’s Mane shrooms!
At first I thought tripe because you said "mystery meat", but it's obviously lion's mane. I noticed the soil part and as a home mushroom grower I immediately knew

I saw the light hairs and the flat dark circles from where it was touching the side of the box in the first shot of him putting it in front of the camera. The restaurant I work in puts sauteed wild mushrooms on top of the breakfast potatoes. I've cut probably prepped 80-100lbs of lion main myself, we go thru a lot there. This is some pretty looking stuff Guga got a hold of.

Yeah. Mushrooms (fungi) aren't meat (animal matter) and they certainly aren't vegetables or fruit (edible parts of a plant). Mushrooms are mushrooms. Therefore, the title of the video was click-bait OR Guga is misinformed.

I'm not 100% sure if they are the same, but there's this mushroom called 猴頭菇 in Chinese which literally translate to "Monkey head mushroom" and my parents used to say they are good for your brain too XD it looked really similar to this. We used to have it in a soup as well!
I've been illustrating a whole book of mushroom creatures over the last year! I recognize mushrooms when I see them!
My years in mycology had me knowing this before even reading the title :D I once had Lion's Mane confited in olive oil, and then fried, and it had the same texture as creamy foie gras! People really should be eating more mushrooms, they are equal parts fascinating and delicious :)

@@BlueberryPancake_ Same. They just don't taste good to me. Most of the time the texture is also a problem for me, specifically. The one exception is oyster mushrooms, but they have to be done one specific way, which is breaded and fried, like a schnitzel or a pork loin cutlet.

@@BlueberryPancake_just take the mushrooms in tincture form or a powder extract. As long as it's double extracted you'll get the benefits from it. Also lions mane tastes like chicken and the texture isn't like other mushrooms. Not all mushrooms are like the crappy white button ones.

You had me for so long. Initially I said to myself that's a mushroom. I've never seen those type in person but I'm in a FB group and see postings about Lions Mane and Bear Tooth mushrooms and that's what hit me. But I have never seen one shaped like that or of that size so I was totally thrown off clueless. I thought this man Guga is not baiting me into a mushroom while claiming it's meat. And finally right before ya'll started eating I said f it, it's a damn mushroom.
I was thinking chicken of the woods but never seen anything like it... turned out real nice looking. I want ur spice blend for relatives/myself/gifts but sold out bro. I think you are a solid dude and know how to cook a steak :)

You can afford it if you want. If you decide it's worth it to have the experience. If you wanted you could save 5 dollars a week for a year and reach out to make contacts at a restaurant or dealer and buy it. Or get a side hustle. But you can, the issue is do you want to. Some t hings are worth doing at least once. That's the whole idea of a bucket list. For a American you will have hundreds of thousands of dollars pass thru your hands in a decade. You can say you don't see it worth it, but it's not a issue of can't

I recently found that you can rapidly infuse mushrooms with liquids using a chamber vacuum sealer, it totally changes the texture and flavor. Try infusing one of these with beef broth or melted wagyu fat!!

I knew it was lions mane right away!! I’m a ‘weegan’ Haiyaa but you made this steak perfectly. I usually throw it in my indoor grill after pressing and getting crust. Then baste my ‘sauce’ on and after I pull it off it looks and cuts like a nice bbq’d POM(piece of meat). But nonetheless I love your channels!! Thanks for satisfying all memories of neat for me!!

Don’t want to eat turkey tail, basically like eating wood. However, it makes tinctures that are very good for you and your immune system.
That doesn't seem like a meat, it looks more like a mushroom! I've heard of some mushrooms mimicking meats, but I've never seen anything like this! Spoilers for after: Well I was right about it being a mushroom, but that's really wild! Beautiful crust on the outside, and it looked super juicy on the inside as well! If you gave that to me in a restaurant, I would've thought it was chicken too, but I've never seen a mushroom like that! Lion's Mane mushroom, I'll keep that in mind.

I’ve got a home grow lions mane kit in my kitchen. I can see mycelium developing and I’m so excited. Next week I should have a kilogram of mushrooms to try this out.

Actually I think black thruffle is just better. It is so delicate. I love the fact that it does not overpower anything you put it on. PS. Pasta is not a side dish... it's always primo piatto. Also in italy you will get that much pasta only in restaurants... most people at home make usually 100-125 g of pasta (I make 125-130g of pasta just for me). And DON'T CUT PASTA!!! PS2. the tongue is amazing... it is not disgusting... Just boil it for a long time

Curried lion's main is a fave in my home i love seeing it get used more
I was quite baffled at first I did notice the furry exterior that means surface increase for exchange (air, blood, food...) which you would find usually in the inside of an organ, when you cut it I guessed the third realm of nature fungus half way between plant and animals. Nice!

Deceptively called it mystery meat! I thought it looked like a mushroom and didn't recognise it as a meat. I usually get these little challenges! Not this time! Love mushrooms though... Looking forward to seeing it play out!

Hey Guga, I have an idea for you to explore. What if, instead of cooking one's favorite chili recipe (using cubed chuck roast, of course) on the stove or crock pot, you put all the ingredients in a sous vide bag? Lions mane is sooo good! I grow it! easiest way to prepare it is to pull it apart (its stringy pretty easy to do) and cook it in butter in a pan! Tastes a lot like crab and is used as imitation crab by vegans/vegitarians!

Just tried Lions Mane recently, it turned out really well!
Argh- Guga: white truffles for the aroma (grated over the dish) - black truffles for the flavor (cooked with the food).... Try it out!
i see this comonly. but only if you are used to foraging. is lions mane mushroom. super good for your brain and can be made into vitamins. tastes great too. flavor of citrus and crab. one of my favorite mushrooms to grow with the bucket method.

On a possible cautionary angle, I take a Lion Mane tablet every day and they are quite small and the manufacturers recommend taking only one per day and not exceeding the dosage. I am not sure how a portion the size of a steak matches up with the contents of a tablet.

I love lions mane I just grow my own I get mine from hidden harvest mushrooms farm. Really dense nice mushrooms from there blocks nice strain for steaks.

This is a mushroom. Though this mushroom can actually taste like steak when seasoned and cooked properly. I live in Maine. You can find Lions Mane almost everywhere by the coast and mossy areas if you look hard enough. It actually has a calming effect when consumed.
As I’m seeing it for the first time I’d say to looks like the outside of a stomach perhaps but intrigued
