Gordon just got popular cuz of hes language and from there it took off. Im not saying he is a bad cook, he still has a few Michelin stars, which points on something, but again, other chefs cooks in hes restaurant, and they actually keep those stars. Anyway this video was hilarious.

Now instead of getting two different cheeses in one bite, you're going to be getting one cheese so he should have just made two different sandwiches.

It's simply the wrong kind of cheese for this type of thing. Very hard, dry, aged cheese like that doesn't melt the way you'd want; it would sooner burn. It's the kind of cheese that you cut into tiny pieces and then enjoy with something like baguette and some grapes. Eaten like that, it's pleasant and absolutely wonderful. But yeah, trying to grill it is just outright the wrong idea. It's like trying to put a screw into something by slamming it with a hammer. The screw itself is fine, you're just doing it wrong fundamentally.

Cheese on toast is a common snack in the UK. It consists of (normally) ready toasted bread, topped with sliced or grated cheese which is then broiled in order to melt the cheese and served open (not as a sandwich). Cheddar is the most common cheese used, but many households tend to buy quite mature cheddar which is rather hard and doesn't melt well at all - but still makes a delicious bit of toast. It seems like Gordon has tried to combine a fancy version of this with an american grilled cheese (which is uncommon in the UK) and has not been especially successful with replicating the grilled cheese part.

  • @elliotsharpe5448

To be honest, the grilled cheese isn’t very popular in the UK. Much more popular is ‘toasties’ where it’s just like a cheese sandwich that’s been in a sandwich press or as we call it - a toastie maker, so all the cheese has melted. We do eat more mature cheddar than you guys but it still melts pretty well. I’d say I wouldn’t really think of American cheese as real cheese in fact my mum calls it ‘plastic cheese’ 😂

"many households tend to buy quite mature cheddar which is rather hard and doesn't melt well at all" What?!?! All UK cheddar melts. Even hardcore stuff like Green's of Glastonbury or Wookey Hole will bubble and brown under the 'broiler' I'm not sure where you're finding cheddars with the consistency of halloumi or feta in the UK, or anywhere for that matter. I don't know anyone here who eats lukewarm, sweaty, unmelted cheese on toast. It's not a thing.

@@elliotsharpe5448even as a fellow Brit, the whole "plastic cheese" thing has gotten insanely old by now to me, I have to fight to not roll my eyes whenever someone mindlessly dogs on it. American cheese contains additional milk parts and the like to make a creamier, softer product that melts quicker and more evenly, and as such is ideal for burgers and grilled cheese sandwiches, the exact foods it's supposed to go on.

As a Vietnamese, i actually tried to make the Gordon Ramsay "Grilled" Cheese, as he said at the start this is actually more of a british "Cheese on toast" then the American grilled cheese (it just that the term grilled cheese is more common and sound better then just cheese on toast). I , of course, didn't use a fire place to cook it since i don't have one but i did use a coal grill, The hard cheese and the toasted bread actually have a really good texture and flavour that i would argue better than a typical american grilled cheese, the flavour of this slightly soften hard cheese is super impactful, it spread salty savory note around you mouth with hint of funkiness/umaminess. I would definitely recommend Gordon "Grilled Cheese" if you like a flavourful sandwich, if you like a cheesy pull then this probably isn't the sandwich for you.

I always thought American grilled cheese was just cheese on toast, bread in toaster, cover with sliced cheddar stick it under the grill until it melts. Then I realised the "grilled" bit meant fried in butter in a frying pan. I tried it that way and the grease made me nauseous but I also find melted cheese on toast to be a bit too greasy unless I go easy on the cheese and don't over melt it so the oil comes out

Those cheeses Gordon used look more like you'd want them either shaved or grated, possibly cut into smallish cubes to eat with a dry cured sausage, olives and some kind of sweet wine or fruity tea. At least for the asiago , the other. Thin cubes with a summer sausage, fruit and a chilled fruity/sweet drink. Possibly with a good salsa and torn apart toasted flat bread like a pita maybe flour tortilla. In my opinion at least for those in particular. As for an actual grilled cheese sandwich. Hard to go wrong with mild or medium cheddar, smoked Gouda is good, Munster is good. Thin sliced or shreds. The bread, something like a sourdough or other sturdy crust and crumb bread, must be a crust around the perimeter. Mighty butter or mayo swipe one side, smear of roasted garlic on inside of slice, place down small handful of cheese shred in buttered pan to melt, place bread on the cheese. Another small handful of cheese shred or thin sliced. Cook till cheese on outside is crispy, repeat with other bread side. When the filling is melted gooey, press halves together. Let sit for a minute before cutting in triangles, serve as is or with a tomato soup, possibly a meaty thick broth (a broth that's stew thick). Further watching, yeah that's not a grilled cheese Gordon's eating. Sure it may be tasty but it's not melted at all. It's warmed and the bread is toasted slightly burned but t that's it.

Grilled cheese... Get 2 slices of bread and a piece of cheese and put the cheese inbetween the 2 slices of bread.. Put butter on the outside of one slice of bread and then put butter in the frying pan.. heat it on about 7 til the pan is hot and the butter melts, then put the uncooked grilled cheese sandwich in the frying pan with the melted butter.. leave the buttered bread on top.. then let the bread on the bottom toast, then flip the sandwich over and let this side do the same.. once toasted remove and put in your plate.. its a grilled cheese sandwich thats ready to eat. .. it can be sliced in half And the type of bread and cheesr can be altered to your preference. Ham can also be put in the sandwich to make grilled ham n cheese sandwiches. You can also use 2 slices of cheese instead of 1. .. i just used regular ingredients.

Making sandwiches seems like such a simple thing. You put something between two slices of bread. But it is actually quite complex to make a really great sandwich. This goes for anything you can imagine that you could place in a bun or between two slices of bread. You have to think about the bread, the filling, the dressing...everything matters! For all of us who make anything between two slices of bread at home here's the question: what sandwich/burger/whatever sounded great in your head but was a complete and total fail once it was on the plate and in your mouth? I have several unforgettable ones. :)

Grilled cheese should always have hot melted cheese, not cold solid cheese. I can not find the Romano pepper berry cheese around here but I did try some other pepper and berry cheeses. Some were good and some were not. I do like my cheese thick though. But the way I do it is I put both slices of bread on the pan and one layer of cheese on each slice of bread. Put a lid on and watch the cheese melt. It must also be a crisp golden brown for that awesome crunch. When they are done I put the two halves together and enjoy. My favorite Grilled Cheeses Sandwiches are: ● Jalapeno Pepper Jack Cheese with smoked Chipotle Cheddar Cheese (these are also good by themselves) ● Havarti Caraway Cheese ● Garlic Chili Cheddar Cheese ● Sharp Cheddar Cheese with Sliced Spicy Chorizo ● Monterey Jack Cheese and Mozzarella Cheese with Sliced Spicy Chorizo drizzled with Pizza Sauce.

To the ''Italian cheese expert'': The black bits in the first cheese are peppercorns, NOT MOULD. It is common to put whole peppercorns in Italian cheeses. And yes, hard cheeses can melt beautifully, when grilled. The way Gordon did it, no cheese would melt, as the sandwich was too thick.

We'd spend days at a time on the boat and frequently cooked grilled cheeses. Here is where I learned to make an elevated grilled cheese sammy. It's simple: 1) Room soft butter on the inside of both slices 2) Add your favorite cheese 3) on the pan-side of the bread, add a super light layer of the mayo of choice (helman's real mayo is my choice). Miracle whip leaves too funky of a flavor. 4) Slap it on the grill and cook it until your cheese melts. This is the only way I make them now, when I want to indulge

Yes! Kimchee is awesome on grilled cheese! Try sourdough + cheddar + bacon + kimchee + havarti + sourdough 🤤 Oh…and butter, all day

I love how the internet exposed Gordon's wack recipes. This video and Uncle Roger really gave me some perspective on what good cooking is hahaha

Bro the way I make the cheese melt on a grilled cheese is once I put butter on both slices I put the first slice button touching the pan then a handful of cheddar, Romano, and white cheddar then put the other slice on top and wait a few minutes before flipping it and it comes out beautifully then I make tomato soup with it

@guga, I would guess that was margarine and not butter. Its still good, use it daily on toast. But I also keep butter for when cooking steak and curries and stuff.

Hi, Guga! We usually use very very aged Kimchi for cooking. The flavor is seeped deeply into the cabbage, and the texture is softer. For example, Kimchi stew and Kimchi fried rice are much better made with aged Kimchi. And aged Kimchi doesn't look pretty at times.
