I found one at MSRP in January of this year, in an area known for crazy markups. These dealerships can ask for 20k over all they want, but no one is paying that anymore. Last day of month is definitely a big factor in landing one for MSRP.

Well said John, the whole idea of a dealership is so outdated and unnecessary. There should only be a dealership for service, all ordering should be done online just like Tesla.

I got one at MSRP back in October at autopark Honda in Cary, NC. Family that owns the dealership will not sell any car above msrp or add extra dealer accessories at crazy prices. Only good for North Carolina residents. I worked with Vinny and he was great. If you live in NC, give them a call. I feel bad for other parts of the country with crappy dealers.

Civic type R and honda dealer experience pushed me away from the brand. bought a used bmw m2 and never going back to honda.

Just gained another subscriber as Hennessy Honda of Woodstock had a 10th gen type R limited edition and they wanted to get $75,000 from me I turned him down like a fat kid does vegetables. I did tag them on Facebook with your video lol

What you are seeing in the tach is a programmed rev hold in anticipation of upshifting into the next higher gear where that RPM will be an ideal match for the new gear ratio. It's for a rev-matched upshift and most new sports cars have this. It's more subtle than a rev-matched downshift, so many people don't realize it's there or that it's intentional. The rev-matched upshift RPM hold will time out after a second or so, if you don't go into the next gear. This is all inline with the behavior seen in your video. It's not rev hang. You can turn off the rev matched upshifts and downshifts in the infotainment screen, and then you will get a better feel for the actual rev hang inherent in the engine.

I’ll have to play with that. I figured it was programmed in to make it run clean. I know when the throttle slams close the NX gasses go sky high. I’ll play with some of the settings and see if the changes are noticeable. Thanks for the comment

Got my Integra Type S at Crown in Tampa while I was down there for work at MSRP in Nov. It was end of the month and they wanted to move the car. It originally had a 5k markup on it. Great buying experience! Look around and don't be afraid to tell them you are interested at MSRP and not a dollar over. They may budge.

So much cleaner with the spoiler white 👍🏼

Got a Champ White FL5 1 month ago under MSRP. Cool that you are doing car stuff with your son. I wont be color matching mine anytime soon. I like the black/white contrast. I think if i did anything with the wing it would be carbon-fiber but for now I am going to slap an exhaust on and enjoy it stock for a year.

Sick pickup, do they make extended wing stands for the oem wing ?

I had a local dealer who was selling them for msrp and at the time I wasn’t too serious, then I looked at other dealers within 50 miles and each dealer was marking up 10-20k, I suddenly was interested after realizing how difficult it was to buy a type r since I had a SI and wanted to upgrade. When I went back and was ready to buy one from my local dealer not even a week and they were sold. Suddenly I was super interested and was desperately looking from state to state and everyone laughed when I mentioned msrp, maybe 2 weeks later I got a call from a dealer and I said I wouldn’t work with them if it was over msrp and they bugged me to atleast go and try talking it out, it just happened to be that they where willing to sell it for msrp and accept the trade in value I wanted for my car and I have been enjoying my FL5 type r for now 5 months at 19!

My idea from the first time I saw one

5:00 Revhang seems to be since auto rev match is on. It drops to the perfect spot to shift up to third gear and hesitates before going to idle.

Is it still worth to pick up a used ap2 or just save for a newer car like the fl5?

Congratulations for the professional choice of the wing colour but I would prefer to keep the black colour so it will be a more aggressive contrast.But it is nice with the white too.

I’m a little OG and kinda making it closer to the original ITR. I still think the ITR is leaps above but like I’ve mentioned before, this might be the last best Honda we get. Thanks for your logical sounding opinion, it would be boring if we all liked the same thing.

Makes me so grateful I was able to get a good deal on my enthusiast car last year basically, which was a miracle to be honest. The prices of cars, new and used, are pretty crazy right now! Especially new though, it's upsetting to say the least.

John, you mentioned "Rev hang" on changing gears. Does it also hang when you lift off the throttle to slow down? My '08 VW does that. Very annoying. You could brew a cuppa while waiting (not really)☺

I sold my type r 2 months ago. The buying experience was absolutely horrible. Great car just not worth anything above MSRP. I think it’s already overpriced as is.

Dealerships are aware of the mark ups. Dealerships have been doing this for yrs

the wing looks wider because of the paint, white or any light color makes objects look bigger while black and darker colors make objects look small.

The spoiler looks really good white.

Here in Japan, we don't have any dealer markup at Honda dealership, but we have to wait in the queue or buy used one which is more expensive than brand new. I've been waiting for about 1.5 years, and I have to wait another 2 years to receive my Type R. Anyway, that white spoiler looks good!

I really like the painted wing! But what about painting the wing strut/brackets as well? They are easy to swap out if you decide you don't like it.

Best bet is to put a deposit for one at a known MSRP dealer before it even gets built. Wait the X months (or next model year) and pick it up when it arrives. Remember these bad dealers and steer everyone you know away from them, even when they’re desperate for sales and drop the markups. Let them rot with their inventory.

Can’t get one at msrp in the Chicagoland area either. One of the only dealers who sells at msrp has a 10 person waitlist, it’s a complete joke that Honda allows this.

Why the second go around?

I was told by a manager they had a civic ex at MSRP, 100%. Got to the Dealership and there it was at MSRP plus $7500 of add ons.....I ordered one at MSRP no add ons, not even wheel locks, as long as I didn`t discuss the deal and give a rousing YELP review...

Convince me I'm wrong...😅

Did install the Hasport upper torque/lower rear mounts with the 62a based on your older video. Huge improvement. Added a HDP clutch pedal brace as factory pinch welds are known to crack. Surprised you never have mentioned the HDP (K-tuned) clutch pedal brace, unless I've missed it

You don’t need half that. Just An intake and the Hondata will vastly improve the driving experience. A tune is not necessary you will be able to improve the throttle response and hang by changing the settings yourself.

currently trying to get a mk5 supra in 6mt and first dealer brushed me off after i said i was trading in my evo 8 and said they’d offer me a few hundred for it and i asked him if he even knew about cars. maybe i just look too young. other dealerships take me more seriously but all have crazy markups, lowest i’ve been offered is 5k over and id have to wait months before the car comes in. i really hope they do away with dealers, buying my tesla was so easy. if the hyundai-amazon thing works out it’s def for the best

Honda chose Michelin Pilot Sport 4S for performance. They've been the best all-season tires for many years.

Hi John: The reason that car dealerships are making deals at the end of the month is because of the Floor Plan inventory with the financial institution (in this case, American Honda Motor Credit). Floor plan inventory is a line of credit to finance the new car inventory at the dealership. The dealership pays the interest on the Floor Plan Inventory which is due the beginning of each month. This is why the new car dealerships are willing to make deals at the end of the month. As for the 2024 CTR FL5, as productions picks up and the dealerships will receive cars sooner to be add the floor plan inventory after it is released from the car carrier company after the car comes from port. Since CTR is limited production and other honda dealerships are willing to pay MRSP to buy car to add their inventory (when production is limited). This is why the market adjustment prices are set by the sale management team until a lot of CTRs are showing up from port and when the car is not sold. The dealership is paying the for the car (each month) to stay on the lot until it is sold (hopefully at msrp).

Thanks for that information. It’s pretty interesting and makes alot of sense. It sucks that some dealers are very greedy and have excessive mark ups. One dealership keeps calling me ( the one that wanted $20k over) and dropping their price. I told them I’m still in the market for one as I’m interested to see their approach. They have dropped it to a $15k mark up as of now.

@@LHTPerformance Hi John. You're welcome! I used to work for two family-owned multi franchise car dealerships (Ford then Mercedes-Benz) for 13 years (total). I learned a lot about franchise car dealership operations. I would like to add : Dealership allocation of cars and trucks. Sometimes car manufactures will have to allocation of limited production of cars or trucks to the car dealerships and regional district manager of car manufacture has the task of allocating certain number of limited production cars or trucks to new car dealerships. Once an allocation is set for the dealership; they will receive notice of when the next allocation will be available by regional district manager (ie:45 or 60 days for dealership receive next allocation). I always people that time is on your side with limited production cars and trucks. Sooner or later, the market adjustment price will go away by the sale management team and they will sell the car at msrp. Because the dealership that is calling you (with $15K markup) is selling a lot of Accords, regular Civics and other honda vehicles to keep the CTR on the Floor Inventory each month and hope that somebody is willing to paid over msrp. The new car model year usually starts in late Aug/ early Sept for 2025 and the 2024 cars and trucks have to be sold to make room for the 2025.

Why I love my Elantra N 6 speed. Wasn't hard to find at MSRP. Over $10k cheaper than Type R. FL5 Type R is awesome for sure and they hold their value well if you get tired of it and plan on selling it.

Civic and accord are built on the same chassis now.

You have to be willing to travel out of state. There is a surplus nation wide and many dealers are willing to sell at MSRP out there

Got a civic exl did a trade in for my camry got scammed off the trade in equity value it had and got a markup of 5k when it would have been cheaper ordering online. Still love my car tho, the heated seats auto lock moon roof no gas cap ect. Very convenient dont regret but hate that dealership

Ah, Palm Harbor Honda. They’re a crappy dealer. One time my fiancé took her family’s Fit to that dealer. The dealer took possession of the car, backed up into another vehicle on the lot, then tried to blame it on her! Never before have I seen such audacity in my life.

Yeah, the white wing looks better. I ditched the mufflers and put a twin on the rear. I refused to pay above MSRP and eventually got one for MSRP but with $300 add ons that were not worth it.

A clean 2017 Type R with 3,000 miles recently sold on Bring a Trailer. Winning bid was 35K. MSRP $34,775... Copart has good deals though.

The Berlin City dealerships in Berlin city New Hampshire are infamous for this

Bought my 2021 Type R a few months ago. Single owner, clean title, only 10,600 miles. Championship white, gorgeous car. Runs flawlessly and in amazing condition. Was very well maintained by the previous owner. Paid 45k after taxes, title, tag fees and all of that nonsense. Blew my mind that I was paying ABOVE MSRP on a 3 year old car with nearly 11k miles. The car would of been a better deal if I bought it brand new 3 years ago. Just crazy the market right now. You definitely pay a premium for an FK8 or FL5. But my God there is nothing like them. I prefer the FK8's aggressive styling and its definitely the car for me as opposed to the FL5, and seeing how insane the prices are for an FL5 make me glad I prefer the FK8.

I felt the the Integra Type S was better in every single way, so I didn’t play their BS games and went and bought that for MSRP with ease. It’s everything I liked about the CTR and everything I didn’t like about it. I got Apex Blue with Orchid interior 👌

I just got a 2024 Si, the MSRP was $31k they had a markup of $6k and after 5hrs of back and forth I got the car for $29k. They are all full of crap.
