I first came across DIYs using diffraction grating film on TikTok. This included "magic" resin molds which create pieces with iridescence that don't require glitter or paint. Then I saw several videos on KZread featuring holographic chocolate. So I decided to test out everything that can be poured into a mold in liquid form. The results were quite hit and miss but I did get a few very aesthetic pieces out of it. I'm surprised there aren't more commercially available products that use this effect, or people who sell magic molds. From my research, there are only a few very small indie sellers who offer diffraction resin molds. I'd love to try making my own molds for an upcoming video so there isn't an issue of the diffraction film getting stuck.

I remember seeing Cristine and Ben from simplynailogical do this! From what I remember, whenever they tried to peel the film and chocolate apart, it would not produce the shiny holographic effect but if the chocolate and the film started to separate by itself and formed a pocket of air between the film and chocolate, by gently pushing around the air pocket to release the chocolate and film, it created a super shiny holographic effect! My theory is that by peeling apart the film and chocolate, it may be too harsh and may not transfer the texture perfectly so when it is done more gently, the texture is transferred better

Making a silicone mold out of the foil will work, the silicone picks up the texture perfectly and can easily transfer it to other materials. Ive seen other youtubers (evan and katelyn) do it before
I love it when influencers show us their mistakes too Makes me feel less like an idiot when my crafts don't turn out like they should Or when I'm just clumsy like today, where I spilt wax all over my kitchen while making candles
This reminds of the does anything transfer debate between Ben and Cristine still lol
I wonder if air dry clay could pick up the effect? Maybe it is too textured to do it properly...

Probably not, but other kinds of clay like polymer clay or resin clay might.

4:53 omg the Little Tiny Piece of chocolate that YEETED across the table when you broke the second chunk in half 🤣
There are tiny lines on the paper that are 2 microns apart. We can't see anything less than 35 microns. I learned this from Ann Reardon's video about the holographic chocolate.
Ok I see a 3 way collab here… SimplyNailogical (Cristine) How To Cook That (Ann Reardon) Maqaroon (Joanna)

Plus Evan and Katelyn
the way to use this method is to use the film to create the texture in a silicone mold, as in transferring it to the silicone. that way you can transfer it to other things without the risk of the film sticking. i think evan and katelyn used that method
I've been watching you for so many years. Your videos were literally what my school days were made up of...I find it so amusing that you still have such unique video ideas and such great content !!! Thanks for all of your videos and keep up the great work 💕💕

Thank you!! 🥰 Making YT vids is really my passion and I never seem to run out of ideas 😂
I’ve been watching your channel for about four years on and off, your videos gave me a really good outlook on creating, you never made it look effortless, you’ve always shown when something didn’t work out and how you kept trying. The calm colorful visuals and your soothing voice overs got me through a really hard time in my childhood, because of you I learned so much you’ve really impacted my life. Thank you so much Joanna 💚💚
I’ve never heard someone other than a Glass artist use the word dichroic, this is beautiful. Thank you so much.
you can actually buy molds that have diffraction grating already on them!! theyre mostly used for resin and they look really beautiful :)
I love how calming and yet entertaining her videos are!!
Definitely check out Ann From how to cook that, I believe she was one the first, if not, the very first to create the method for making Holo chocolate. I wish she got more credit for her video

But Annwasn't the first one to create holo chocolate. Applied Science and the Action Lab both published videos months before Ann and ETH Zurich had an article back in 2019 about it.
You're looking tan, I hope you're enjoying the sun this summer! Great video as always! 🖤

When I saw her video in notifications I came faster then Joanna can say "Hi everyone and welcome back to maqaroon".
I feel like those candy melts burn really easily. Plus they don't taste that great. It's a cool concept, but I'd rather just deal with chocolate. :)
Quite amazing how everyone seems to think Ann Reardon created holo chocolate, ignoring the fact that there's multiple videos from others creators out months before hers. I personally learned about it from Gizmodo and then seen Applied Science and the Action Lab's videos on it prior to the HTCT release.

Thank you! Yes, I didn't have a thermometer or stove in my office so I couldn't try real tempering, though I wasn't 100% confident that would work anyway 😅. The candy melt was a cheat option in case both chocolates didn't temper 😝

I always tell my students you did not fail if it was an experiment because the point of an experiment is to get information which you did.
This so cool thank you so much for this
This is so cool!
Hi! Maybe try just putting chocolate and few drops of oil (literally any oil will do) in microwave and just heat it till it melts. I cannot temper it but this is a great way to melt it and to have it hardened
@PrincessSixThirteen

The chocolate needs to be tempered in order to pick up the holographic effect.

this entire video i was just like "damn i wanna eat that chocolate"
That's really cool 👍👍
You can make silicone molds to use for the resin and gels, there are resin artists on instagram who have made their own holographic molds. It works great for them, at least with resin.
Your voice is so soothing I love it
Evan and Katelyn did a video on making holo resin :) Also I think (specifically for resin) a pressure pot or vaccum chamber would increase the holo effect. There may be small amounts of air trapped in the ridges on the film which makes the effect less visible on some surfaces
I wanna eat that holographic chocolate so bad it looks so pretty!
Use the diffraction sheet to make silicone moods and then try again :) hope I get to see you try again I love this

Hi! I was thinking of doing some polymer clay sculpting these days but figured I couldn’t because I don’t have an oven. Do you have any clay recommendations that have the characteristics of polymer clay but is air dry?
Amazing!
Could you pls make a DIY fidgets vid?❤ You have the best DIY videos
FYI, Evan and Katelyn did experiments with resin and defraction film. They made a silicon mold of the defraction film and successfully created holographic resin.
Even and Katelyn made it wok with Resin by making molds of the tecture first with silicone
Lots of loveeeee
I saw a resin one done by a youtuber. They made a silicon mould with the hologram paper and then put the resin in the mould.
On the bright side you've got some chocolate 🤠
If I had to make a suggestion for the resin-based ones - mould release could possibly help.
I love it
Woah! Sick!
I really like your videos
Oh!! can you make some kind of mold from the plastic, then use the squishy gel with the mold? Siilicon may not pick up the tiny details but maybe other options could exist. Oop - you suggested it as I was typing! Anyway, I'd like to see you test it with different possible mold materials if possible.
All of these look edible.
Loved the video! 💖 And your knife also looks holographic
Does the texture of the chocolate change at all? Can you feel any of the bumps from the diffraction paper on your tongue?
Even and Katlyn did this and they did a few tests for he resin it's so cool
I may be a bit late, but have you considered attempting to make a mould with the foil? You could paste the foil to the apoxy block you made and cast it with silicone and see if it would work
Nice!!!
I’ve wanted to do this for a long time (like 4 years by now lol) but i was too lazy to order some difraction grating XD

Evan and Katelyn actually figured out how to get this to work with resin by creating their own silicone mold of the plastic! I suggest watching their video if you want to attempt to make a squishy with this look! :)
Your voice is so lovely
Still looking forward to the follow up!
Moldparadise is coming out with holo silicone resin molds!
Where do i get the white squishy gel
i wonder if it would work with polymer clay!
I wonder if the ridges from the plastic gripped onto the gels .. like Velcro or something
Maybe someome has already sad that but you can make a mold that has the texture of the transfer film and then anything with made with that mold will also produce the holo refraction. That would work better with resin because there would be no foil to get stuck. Also, the problem with your chocolates is probably because you didn't temper them. Candy melts (and stuff called compound chocolate) are made for melting down and resolidifying. Regular chocolate will not resolidify nicely if you don't temper it. It'll be grainy and dull like the milk chocolate you used.
What if you try gelatin and/or agar?
Could you try making squishys with candle jelly?
I'm a bit late, but if you do intend on trying these again, here are a couple of tutorials that might help you in your endeavors. The first is from How To Cook That and goes over the details of working with chocolate and what tempering actually is, explained in a friendly manner that is easy to understand. Also explaining a few methods for tempering, one quite simple and similar to what you used, but more specific. The second video is from Evan And Katelyn and goes over their attempts, and successes, in making holographic resin, and the molds they used to make them. Chocolate: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pXugr9GHo5fXnLA.html Resin: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWRtmtCweJfNgso.html
While you were cutting the chocolate the knife was rainbow 😆
Hi do you now how to make spuishy gel
Yay 😆
Moral of the story: You can’t make anything holographic except for chocolate.
I wonder if the chocolate would work if you mixed it with coconut oil🤔. Coconut oil makes chocolate really smooth and pourable. I don't know if this would actually work better or not, but I know it at least makes chocolate easier to use!
nice vid
Ooh I like the idea I always wait so long for ur vids so I'm always happy when u post can u come back on popjampleasee
What if you glue the film so it doesn't get stuck 🤔
If this helps, Evan and Katelyn made a video doing it with resin. They made a mold of the refraction grating instead of making the resin with the refraction grating in the same mold... If that makes sense
You can make a silicone mold with the foil and then you can make rainbow epoxy pieces 😌
And all you need to do in order to make holographic resin is make a new custom mold utilizing the film and make a mold of the film and them you should be able to cast whatever you'd like although you'll have to be super careful otherwise you'll damage to effect of the holo if your not careful with it while making the mold
The youtubers Evan and Katlyen were able to use the diffraction paper to make a mold and then turned resin into the effect.
That good to eat.
I wonder how it would work with wax?
Can you please try the "secret in funkpop" pls
I wanna eat that so baaaaad

chocolate tempering is really difficult, you need to hit very specific temperatures in order to make it work
