    Hey mate! Great video :) This is one of my favourite and dreamt cars. I hope one day i'll get one. Here in my country is really rare to see one of them and they are very expensive (and more now because of the economic situation we are living). It also helps me to put in practice my english ha ha; fortunately your accent is very clear. Sometimes while watching others it turns difficult to understand (also car pieces vocabulary is really difficult), but you do it very bearable. Great series! love the rebuild😎I have a 06 Dodge Ram mega cab 5.7 and have 160k on it. I’ve seen allot of hype about the dropped valve seats and was wondering what you thought about replacing the heads with heads that have been refurbished with corrected valve seats. Or is this an issue with just overheating and if maintained won’t be an issue🤔 preventative maintenance though cost a bit up front it’s still not as invasive as dropping a cylinder.

  • @ReignitedAuto

    @ReignitedAuto

    3 жыл бұрын

    That's definitely a tough one. In my opinion, yes, I would go with the refurbished heads on a 2006. I would say MOST of the valve seat issues I have seen have been due to overheating. But there are those exceptions where the owners did everything right, but still dropped a seat. Which of course pretty much renders the engine a paperweight.

    @@ReignitedAuto thanks for the guidance 😎 I’ll look into getting the heads. There is a company in your state that sells them at a decent $... also a couple of other ? If I may, #1. Would you swap out my old springs for the springs that come with the new heads? #2. Would you replace the old lifters while it’s apart or keep what I have already? #3. I discovered a coolant leak this morning along the plastic side of the radiator. Do you recommend an oem replacement or a new one with non-plastic sides? I travel with this truck from Michigan to Florida 2x a year so I’m not beating on it at all. (My gas mileage is already bad enough😂) thanks again you’re experience is invaluable for me!

    I happen to be an engine machinist . the dropped valve seat problem with 03 - 08 5.7 heads mainly occurs in engines that have been badly overheated , but it also sometimes occurs on engines with very high mileage , normally well over 200k . it's not nearly as common as people think , but it happens enough that it would be a good idea to have your heads redone by the time you reach 200k .

    Hi I'm a fan of your videos and was hoping to get your opinion/advice. I have a 2014 grand cherokee with the 5.7 engine. It has 120,000 km on it. I am very good about maintenance and change my oil at 5000 km or 90 days ALWAYS. I use penzoil ultra platinum fully synthetic oil. At my last change had a disturbing amount of oil spray visible on the Internal side of my air filter. Myself and the oil change guys all thought PCV valve. So while it didn't appear (or sound) stuck we replaced it. The oil change guy suggested it was "blow by" and was quite common with Chrysler products. This led me to research this on google. It seems more common on diesels, but I have found some mention of "catch cans". I was wondering if you have encountered this "blow by" often on the 5.7 and how concerned I should be. I have read that using a "thicker oil" helped the problem for some other people. I will add that I had recently done a fair amount of mountainous driving during which I often use the paddle shifters to downshift and use "engine brakes" to save my brakes. I'm not thrilled that the problem started at 120,000km (coincidentally the exact milage the warranty runs out). I would appreciate any thoughts/advice you might have. Should I do a compression check?... thanks

  • @ReignitedAuto

    @ReignitedAuto

    2 жыл бұрын

    As you mentioned, the recent high engine braking likely contributed to this issue. The good news is that it's not an indication of imminent failure. There is alwaysgoing to be a certain amount of blow by in any engine, usually it's low enough that most people don't notice it. Unless your engine performance has been directly affected then there's no need to dig deeper on this one, as it was likely a one-off issue due to unique driving conditions.

  • @ReignitedAuto

    @ReignitedAuto

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@jonh2408 not really, the PCV system is pretty standard, by which I mean that you are going to get oil going through the intake, you don't generally see it come all the way up the air filter, but still I wouldn't worry about it. Alternatively you could add a catch can to it. This has positive and negatives though. On the plus side you can verify just how much oil is accumulating and see if its a normal amount compared to other people, on the negative side its one more maintenance item that you have to monitor and empty at certain intervals.

    Yes and no. You can install a '06 engine in a 2010 and it will run, but you'll be setting codes for the VVT system, since the older style engine does not have that system. If you've got a tuner that can turn off VVT, then it'd probably work ok. But know that a lot of the sensors on the engine changed style, so some of the plugs won't match up either.
