This is why I spend as much time as I do outside Spring to Fall when the weather allows working in my gardens. In the Winter I work hard to spend at least 15-20 minutes outside daily regardless of the weather and take 2 125mcg (5000IU) of Vitamin D and 500mg of Vitamin C every day and have been for the last 4 years. I have also been taking 1 tablespoon of Four Thieves Vinegar in cool water or cold tea 2x a day. I have not been sick in any way this entire time. I have also made a concerted effort to improve my physical aspect by exercising 10 minutes 3x a day and have gotten rid of 50 pounds of excess fat as well by changing my eating lifestyle back to the way we ate when I was a kid and very poor. They call it Keto nowadays. Lots of eggs, bacon, hamburger and pinto beans, chicken, tuna fish, fresh caught fish, venison, etc., - sometimes one meal a day, most times 2 - breakfast and evening meal. That's how we ate then.

About 4 years ago started losing my hair and eyelashes, bloods showed really really low Vt D levels, I was prescribed Vt D supplements which slowly brought my Vt D levels up, after 6 months I noticed the hair loss decreasing, and after a year my hair and eyelashes were back to normal. It took a while to get my hair back to normal but once it was I slowly reduced my Vt D supplements, but each time I did I noticed an effect on my hair again, so i will continue to take them long term now. I no longer get prescription Vt D but buy my own, you need to get ones that have D3 in them. I work long hours indoors and don't get enough sunlight and that isn't going to change anytime soon, so I just have to make sure I take my supplements.

It always seems the most important questions are never asked. When it was discovered that so people were not getting enough vitamin c, our government pushed it into general food processing. When the government saw that people were suffering because they were not getting enough iodine in their food, they supplemented it in our table salt. So, I would have liked to ask the doctor, why if vitamin 3D is so important for general health, why then doesn't the government insist food providers add a certain level of vitamin 3D in our food? There was also no mention as to how much vitamin 3D people should be taking daily. I take 2,000 units of vitamin 3D every day. My vitamin 3D blood levels are normal, but who is to say that normal is enough to protect me from the ailments the doctor mentioned?

Yes. You don't need much. Vitamin D is fat soluble so builds up in the body. That's how people maintain their levels through winter. Unless you are deficient and tested so, supplementing is not needed beyond the foods and 5 min/day of sun exposure. High doses build up and become toxic. Talk to your doctor people.
