.000153 percent mortality for the population.. That's less than the number of Vietnamese citizens that died laughing over the same period. Taking into account that about 99.9 percent of all deaths attributed to covid are purposefully , fraudulently misdiagnosed, I thank you for this pointless and likely false information. Keep up the good work, "journalists". Wink wink nudge nudge.

I lived in Vietnam during the time of the outbreak. They closed schools at the start of February when students were set to return from their 2 week lunar New year holiday. Many Western countries didn't close schools for nearly another 2 months. Vietnam was more proactive and responded quicker to minimize spread. Government and citizens took it seriously. Before the mandatory lockdown and isolation took place, I had Vietnamese friends say things like, "I'm going to stay home to help protect my country." Different mentalities compared to certain other people in the world.

what is seriously baffling is how so many other countries who got a handle on this virus actually used the United state's pandemic playbook and it worked. The US has spent decades traveling the world and teaching and working with other countries and giving them the resources to fight diseases and viruses. They all did what was right because they took it seriously. The US has done horrible because our leadership under trump was awful! Some of the first things trump defunded when he became president was almost all of our scientific research and climate change as well. He wanted to stop funding them because he said it was pointless qnd stupid. And instead he used tnat funding for other shit thats not that important! I blame trump 100% for the 500k+ lost lives due to covid! Hes an idiot!

Well to be fair when the pandemic started some Vietnamese people also had a panic shopping spree. But the government predicted this and ordered the supermarkets to double or triple their stocks, and after a few days of panic shopping, people realized no matter how much they bought, the supermarkets had never run out of goods. And so the panic shopping phase stopped in less than a week

To those who think this news is fake and our numbers are false...As a Vietnamese person living in Hanoi, I simply know everything said in this piece is true, why? Because during the lockdown we didn't see hospitals, cemetaries cramped with patients and death bodies, groceries and food were still stocked up in stores, people were calm and supportive to one another and to the government, we tried to make the lockdown time a family get-together. I had to go to the hospital twice and it was even less busier and more organized than normal time because people avoided going there. All my family, parents and friends are safe and healthy, I haven't heard about anyone I know being sick or dead of the virus. And now we are back in normal life, I've been on a holiday to a beautiful beach town and am planning to go on another holiday next month (inside the country of course). I sometimes even forget that in some other places in the world things are still going crazy and chaotic and people are still debating about whether or not to wear a mask, unbelievable!

@@quanker2666 Communist Vietnam's freedom of speech ranking is right in the 170s next to China and North Korea. Hospitals were locked down and the government is all hush hush about it. They learned from the Chinese in how to hack and steal other nations' test kit technology and electronics technology and asking other nations for test kits to save Vietnamese people, but then handing them out to other nations, relabeling it like it is their own for diplomacy points. Like how Chief Ghebreyesus of WHO did with relief funds when he used to be the Minister of Health in corrupt dictatorship for Ethiopia during the Cholera epidemic there. Also, despite the anti-Chinese sentiment among civilians, the government has profited immensely from helping China sidestep trade sanctions by importing Chinese goods, then stamping "Made in Vietnam" over them and selling it to the West. Only fools believe the Vietnamese. Just like China, you can't take your money out of Vietnam once you invest in there, and nobody gets to own land, but get 50 year leases at max, which can be taken away or your business can get a lot of red tape and the government ignores foreigners when they try to bring thieving Vietnamese scammers to court. Just like China, this country is not ruled by law but by the capricious greedy whims of the Party. Remember the Hue Massacre! 4000 raped and murdered by North Vietnamese communists! The "worst" American massacre was just My Lai with 600 dead with no rape. And idiots think North Vietnamese were angels. And after the reunification in 1976, there was a huge political purge with 900,000 victims of rape, murder, imprisonment, and pillaging in the name of communism. Then they go invade Cambodia and then get invaded by China in 1979. To this day, Southern regions and Northern regions have bad blood between them because of the bloody ideological purge.

A govt big enough to provide for you is big enough to take it all away. Time for political reform across the democratic nations. We all need to lose the party system. Vote in individual members to parliament and hold LOCAL debates to vote in political candidates based on individual merit. Its ironic. Politicians are the only ppl we get to elect to a position in our entire democratic systems, and yet they are only voted in based on party allegiance. We live in a great time in history, where we can accomplish practically anything as a collective effort. All we see from politicians is an endless campaign from the time they are elected to the time they are running again for election. Time to develop a system of accountability for politicians. We need a report card on each politician, showing how they voted on every bill table, why they vote for or against it, where their campaign money comes from, etc. But that will never happen because the systems are rigged.

This had nothing to do with it - A new study shows that Vietnam has the lowest rate of adult obesity in the world. CNN reports that a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that more than 2 billion adults and children globally are overweight or obese. This means that roughly a third of the world's population is overweight.

I am sure for people who actually did lose loved ones to Covid 19 would see the pandemic as more than just a "narrative". Having lost my mother, aunt and uncle all in this year to Covid 19, I don't really feel like it's a narrative. It certainly didn't feel like a narrative when I saw mother gasping for air on a video call while I said good bye. But hey who cares? It's just a narrative right?

Yet his lockdown was much less severe than Thailand's, Myanmar or Vietnam. My guess is because of how poor Cambodia is. She asked the people who are in charged whether they would allow her to go back to see her dad for the last time, promised that she will wear all the protected gears, and being supervised, then she will come back to the camp. Seems like they said no and she stayed there strictly until we all get released. So you can see how the Vietnamese gov took this thing seriously enough! I am an American living in Vietnam for the last 5 years. We locked down for a couple of months (Feb and March) and wore masks when we were out. We went back to masks for 2 weeks in May. I live in the south, and aside from these two periods, for the most part Covid is just not on our radar. We also have the advantage of knowing that if we need to be aware and take precautions, we will be timely advised. In my opinion, though, it is the Vietnamese people who don't get enough credit. Granted, masks in Asia are not uncommon, but everyone masked up religiously to protect EACH OTHER. These are wonderful people, and it's a wonderful, beautiful country. I considered returning to the States at first, worried that a large pandemic could easily overwhelm the healthcare system here. And I was afraid I might end up in a local hospital, which, to be generous, is nothing like First World hospitals (bring your own soap, towels, food, and someone to take care of you). The "foreigner hospitals, however are quite good...just out of reach financially for the general population. But when travel shut down, I was stuck here in what has turned out to be one of the few "safe" places on the planet. Covid wouldn't even cross my mind most days if it weren't for CNN. Good luck to everyone. MASK UP! It works!
