Thanks for the review. I've got the 600 so thinking as it's a perfect fit it should be very consistent. The key will be to be fully prepped so as soon as possible start your grilling which will at least keep pellet use to a minimum. I did burgers on the grates yesterday and didn't find the pellet useage near as bad as I thought. Definitely going to go for the griddle. Thanks again, burgers look great.

Andidan, the griddle is nearly 21 lbs. takes a LOT of thermal energy to get it up to temp. I’m sure the lack of side gap and almost near fit on the 600 will trap more heat. Good luck! Thanks for checking in!

Joe, the next time I use it, I’ll do some footage. The setup is simple. Just remove the large and small grates if you have the XL. Thanks for asking.

I have the XL 600 and I'm thinking of getting a griddle. I have the 28" Weber stand-alone propane griddle so looking to replace it with an insert for the XL. For double smashburgers that all love I need at least the cook area of the 28" griddle. The insert recommended for the 600's is #6787 but it only has 392 in2 compared to 497 in2 of my griddle. I do see Weber has an insert griddle #6789 that is 32.67" x 18.67" or 610 in2. The 18.67 looks like a tight fit but have seen a couple 600 owners say they us it on the XL 600. Any thoughts on the #6789 fitting the XL 600 appreciated! - Mike (love the video clips)

Mike, thanks for the supportive words, if you’re commenting on the movie clips, thanks! The griddle I’m running is PN 6787 as recommended by Weber and has a depth of 17.29”. The top of the cook box has a lip on the front and rear that allows both the grill grates and griddle to rest on. The inside measurement from lip to lip is 16 3/8”. Without having the other griddle to try, I’d make triple sure it will catch and lay down inside that 16 3/8” birth. Otherwise, it’s not going to fit and rest level. So…. Looking at the 6789 with a depth of 18.67”, I’m inclined to think it’s not going to fit. Cheers! And good luck with your griddle acquisition. Hope this helped.

When you started griddling I asked myself why did Sambo move the griddle to the left in this video? I was prepping my question when you answered it at the end 🙂. I wonder if it would burn through charcoal pellets slower. Where I am there’s a big variation in wood pellet prices for what are considered higher quality pellet brands. I would pick up run of the mill pellets to burn when griddling since you’re not going low and slow to infuse smoke flavour. This makes me curious about the economics of propane vs wood pellets when cooking fast and high.

Cheaper pellets would make more sense for pure manual mode.

Check in and tell us how useful it is. You may have a longer reach. I never used the front folding table much on my Pit Boss. To me, it felt a bit awkward reaching over it to manipulate the food on the grill. But that’s just me. Plus I’m crazy clumsy and elbowed a bunch of stuff to the deck. Just how I roll. 😉
