When I was 5 (1982) my mom got breast cancer. Before she got it, she would play this song on the piano and I would listen. When she was going through with the mastectomy I would think about this song and cry and hurt and worry. Thankfully she lived and is still with me. 29 years later and I'm a grown man and I still cry when I hear it. I love you mom and I can't smile without you.

When you listen to Karen Carpenter, there is just no stress in her voice, it's clear and concise, she can reach those high notes with no effort. The music world lost one of the most beautiful voices when we lost her. An amazing talent whose candle burned out much too quick.

There's nothing weird about having great taste. Most of today's music is disposable and easily forgotten. The Carpenters music is timeless because of Richard's wonderful intricate melodies and Karen's voice (which I consider the purest and most effortless in pop music history)

I did not realize she died of anorexia. Very sad. Karen has a pure voice. She hits the notes purely when she goes after them and does not do the "scooping" into notes that many do today. She uses vibrato sparingly and tastefully. We sang their songs on long road trips, 6 kids and parents. Still remember all the words.

There's nothing weird about having great taste. Most of today's music is disposable and easily forgotten. The Carpenters music is timeless because of Richard's wonderful intricate melodies and Karen's voice (which I consider the purest and most effortless in pop music history)

John Conway I've always loved the Carpenters, but I'd have to say Stevie Nicks is the best I may be forgetting an oldie that could out sing her, but I'm going to look back and make sure I havent totally forgotten someone as I'm writing this I'm thinking damn, Etta James so it's tough....

The Carpenters actually released this song on their 1976 album two years before Barry Manilow sang it. The Carpenters hadn't released it as a single however, and it's now known as Barry's song.
Karen's voice is, was, will always be the most beautiful sound ever heard.
When I first heard this lady sing (Junior High in the early '70s), I couldn't believe that anybody could sound that good. What a rich, velvety smooth voice. What a tragic loss. And yes, her brother is a genius pianist, composer, and arranger.
Because of my mum playing carpenters in the 70 and 80s I love all there songs.....my mum past away 10 years ago...I'm still blasting out the carpenter's IN 2020 x
Her voice always gets me emocional...
I hope wherever her spirit is, she can see how many people admire, appreciate or adore her voice.
"You brightened my day..." You still do it, dear Karen...

Karen, it is just a bit harder to smile since you left us. To hear your songs is to feel an audio hug. Your music is always in my heart and filling that emptiness that comes with living a solitary life in my senior years. Thank you for all the wonderful songs.

All these years and still the best voice of all time.
Its been 20 years since I listened to her. I forgot how beautiful she is
Her voice is amazing!!!
I wasn't even born yet when all those good oldies were out. However, I love oldies. People think that I am weird and say that I am too young for this. Well, a lot of those songs I have never heard, I still listen to them like they are "new" songs. The more I listen to oldies, the more I like them. I was so sad that Karen died so young. Her voice was a gifted talent.
Poor Karen, such a tragic loss. Her sweet voice is a comfort to all who hear it!
Her voice makes me feel that life is how beautiful.
My favorite singer of all time!

PURE TALENT! God given voice. Miss her so much.
Karen has the best voice ever,I love all the Carpenters songs.
That's how we feel without them. Miss them more each year. Society is the lesser.
I can't smile without you. Such grace in motion. A terrible loss for everyone that ever heard her sing.

I'm a mid 90's dude, my grandma introduced me to the hits of 70's and 80's and since then I become an old fashioned music lover guy... Am I weird? I can't find myself loving the songs of today's songs, pardoned me but no matter how I tried I still coming back to my old fashioned music which I loved mosts and I will never get tired of listening to them over and over and over and over again. ❣💕😍

In a league all her own. You never know what you've got until it's gone.
I loved this song with Barry. And this is the first time I hear it with The Carpenters. This is something superior. Opens new heavenly levels...

First time hearing this version. I like it. Why does it feel like she's here when I listen to her sing yet she's gone and I wasn't born early enough to meet her. I miss her and I never met her. Fuzzy strange.
Memorable song, unforgettable Carpenters... Applause from Brazil!!!
She had perfect tone, could sing the phone book you'd be in love, pure talent. Great drummer!!! Her passion
Karen is really one of the best female vocalists the world ever had..,and all of her songs and music will last as a masterpiece even after the next 500 years. Most singers nowadays, on the other hand, won't.
BAUTYFULL VOICE EVER HEARD, AND PERFECT STYLE. GOOD SOUND FROM BEHIND, WHAT ELSE , THE CARPENTERS!!
Jim, you have it right. In my 56 years she is THE standard for singers and ladies. PERIOD.
We are blessed, as we have her voice. God Bless you Karen!
Que belleza de voz de la muchacha ... NADIE COMO ELLA, es una de las mejores voces del II milenio de la humanidad .. estos temas me remontan a mi niñez en los años 70 del siglo pasado.
Can´t Smile Without The Carpenters... Applause from Brazil!
Karen Carpenter has a unique contralto voice that is unique and compelling! She is my lifetime favorite singer! The world lost a special voice when she died!
