Correction about the bridge, I mentioned that it was originally a moorish bridge and then the romans built on top of it which is definitely not possible since the moors arrived way after the romans. Recent archeological surveys showed that it is a moorish bridge from the 12th century, even though it is called a Roman bridge there is actually nothing Roman about it (maybe because of the appearance?)

"Recent archeological surveys showed that it is a moorish bridge from the 12th century [...]" I am sorry, but that is not correct either. Archeological finds may point out to the existence of a previous Moorish bridge at that crossing point, but that does not mean that the present-day bridge was built by the Moors. Here are a couple of hyperlinks to articles on the subject: tavira.algarvetouristguide.com/attractions/the-old-roman-bridge www.travel-in-portugal.com/attractions/ponte-romana-de-tavira.htm

@@Andre-hi9xn That bridge was neither built by the Romans nor by the Moors! Good grief does that bridge look two thousand years old to you?!! Did you not read the short articles in the hyperlinks I provided in my previous comment?!! It is clearly stated in both of them that the old medieval bridge collapsed and was deeply rebuilt in the mid-1600s! People call it "Roman" because it was built over some Roman foundations! But there might have been a pre-Roman bridge in that spot built by the Lusitani, Turditani, or by the Celtici, who lived in the region before the Romans did! Or by the Carthaginians, who had built a very important trading post nearby, in Cadiz, and most likely had dealings with the locals even before the Romans ever did!

Beautiful Video, I have a villa near to Carvoeiro, and I visited Tavira last year, the first time for many years, but it it truly magical, I think next time I pop down to the Algarve, COVID permitting, I will go over for an overnight stay so that we can sample some of the lovely restaurants in the evening.
Great footage dude, and that place looks so traditional Portuguese - warm and beautiful 👍

We would follow you and Carol anywhere since you both find the best places. It reminds me of northern Baja California without the beautiful buildings and homes. When you got in the water and then whooo I knew that, yep California in the summer and Baja. when you and Carol talked Indian food she and you sounded excited and Carol started going quiet. I take your dad is not an Indian food guy? Carol was right about the beauty of everything and everything is and the beach was awesome and to bad it was cold. I am just really liking the places you go. I like the story since we knew shell fish was bad for you, now we know why. I loved hearing the kids playing in the school yard, learn to love it my man as it gets louder as a dad. The food looked soooo good I wanted to pull up a chair and say what's for supper haha. take care till the next video. peace from Lanette and myself bless you both and mom and dad.

Avoid the publicity.. Massive turism is destroying Tavira and the Algarve itself... The locals will regret it soon or later... Algarve and other areas around the Mediterranean are facing a severe drought... Take the recent exemple of Greece island completely destroyed by fire to the ground... Same can happen in Algarve.... To many people... Not sufficient water.. Be intelligent...look the overall picture of the world...

Bica is the name for espresso mainly used in the Lisbon area. If you order "uma bica" for example in Porto, they might not know what you want. The word 'bica' means spout and it refers to the little (double)spout where the espresso comes out of and also a bird beak. Bica Pingada is similar to Espresso Macchiato. Pingada means drop, like a drop (small amount) of milk.

I heard another story about the meaning of "bica". Apparently when coffee arrived from Brazil in the early 20th century (according to the story) it was so bitter that the locals used to say "Bebe isto com açúcar" (drink this with sugar"). Your story Björn sounds like the true one though!

Portugal's Dirty Little Secret: I am sitting at a cafe in Tavira overhearing a conversation between two young women. One just came to Portugal to take care of her grandmother who was assaulted and robbed by the small Tavira Real Estate Agency she was renting her apartment from. I am hearing more and more of these attacks on retirees coming to Portugal during the last year. I no longer go near any small real estate agency in Portugal. I only use the large reputable companies. I guess that should be the case with most businesses today.
