Synology's Cloud Sync is a great tool to keep your data updated on your local NAS and a cloud provider, but can it be considered a backup tool? Even with cloud sync , if you use btrfs snapshot you are good to go in no time :) when you restore your shared folder , cloud sync will push the changes to the cloud
This was exactly the info I was looking for, thank you for posting!
Great video. It makes the difference between Cloud Sync and HyperBackup very clear. Thank you.

Thanks I wanted backup from Laptop to AWS S3. I will check Hyper backup
Also, Microsoft OneDrive has a restore function that is specifically designed to restore to a previous point in time due to ransomware attack. Is only available to paid storage subscription, but it’s included if you have a Microsoft 365 subscription.

Great feedback! I wasn't aware of OneDrive offering that functionality, but it's great for this specific use-case.
The best explaination on cloud sync i've found on web!! If my Synology NAS box is down for some time...Does it effect my backed up storage in cloudsync?

Thank you so much! No, the storage will stay synced on the cloud version. It just won't update (which makes sense, since nothing on the NAS will be changing).

is there a away to back-up my iCloud photos on my Synology NAS (DSM7)?

You can use Synology Photos, but I don't believe there's a way to connect iCloud straight to your NAS.
So if I back up the Cloud Sync destination folders with Hyper Backup to another folder on the NAS, I should be able restore the whole cloud in one shot if something happens to it, is that right? Thank you

Generally, you don't want to back up the device to itself because a hard drive failure will mean that both copies of the data are gone.

@@WunderTechTutorials Understood, will use C2 also. But this should work in principle if I need to restore the cloud account?
@WunderTechTutorials

@@rontyska3069 I unfortunately can't say one way or the other as I've never done it that way. I guess technically, if the data is there, it can be restored, but it's best to use a small folder and test to ensure it's doing exactly what you want it to.
Thank you for the great video! You mentioned that, If a file is deleted from the NAS, it will also be deleted from the Google Drive, but it will go to Drive's Trash Bin. Is the other way also true? In other words, If I delete a file from Google drive, it would delete from the NAS. But would it go to the NAS's recycle bin? (assuming bidirectional sync)

Yes, if the file is removed from the NAS, it should be sent to the recycle bin assuming it's set up.
Hi , isn't it more flexible to use Cloudsyync? If you had true dataloss, why would you not just Sync everything back from cloud to the synology NAS?
@WunderTechTutorials

The issue is that whatever happens on the source (NAS), will be synced to the cloud location. If you're managing versions on the cloud location and think you can easily restore from the cloud, it's a perfectly acceptable option. If you're syncing tons of files and a corrupt version gets uploaded and you have to individually restore every file, it could turn into a headache quickly. So the true answer is that it depends!
Hi, so I've been using dropbox for a few years. Now I got a Synology NAS and I want to stop using dropbox. If I use Cloud Syn to sync my dropbox to my nas. Can I then disconnect this and delete everything on my dropbox and keep all these files on my NAS? thank you.
@WunderTechTutorials

I haven't actually done that, but in theory, I don't think it will give you any problems. I would just keep the files on Dropbox (or somewhere locally) until you confirm that everything is working as you expected.

Can't you just Hyperbackup to a cloud service other than Backblaze (OneDrive or Gooe Drive?)
@WunderTechTutorials
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use any one that you'd like. However, they all have the same limitation of needing to restore versions if something goes wrong due to it "syncing" the issue.

@@WunderTechTutorials You can't save versions on cloud services?
@WunderTechTutorials
2 жыл бұрын
@@andresvaldevit3692 You can save versions, but restoring those versions is generally individual on each file as opposed to at once on the folder (like Hyper Backup does).
