Before the 400x I had a c650 after a longer trip on the german Autobahn the rear swing arm was knocked out kompletly ithink to hot 1800 € Repair . If you want somethimg like an c650 buy a bmw Rt 1200 or 1250 thts very much better for Touring . Me too! My wife and I have a pair of Yamaha Majesty 400s, that we love. 2007 and 2009, virtually NO problems, cheap to maintain and insure, do 94mph, paid $2600 for each. I loved riding mine, but after I bought the Africa twin, it seems like a pile of rattling junk, that requires a lot of attention to steer. So I sold mine, the wife still likes hers, but we’re looking at a BMW now.

I was going to get a motorcycle but in the end I decided to go with a 125cc scooter. Maybe it's because I'm still learning, I find a 125cc scooter to be really powerful.

The 300cc and up scooters are basically automatic motorcycles. Those scooters are also heavy enough for freeway riding. I used to have a true 200cc Suzuki Burgman (California) which weighs 365 lbs. It is suitable for freeway riding. I upgraded to the 415 lb Sym Citycom 300i which is great for freeway riding. Hello ! Since I have a Honda Forza 300 cc scooter, I'll share one piece of advice : do not overuse the rear brake while reving the motor at slow speed for figures 8... The dry clutch on these machines will overheat fast and won't last long. The rear brake against motor to balance the missing clutch does wonder for really slow stability, but the dry clutch will vanish ! Happy riding !

@@MotoJitsu Seems you're still lacking knowledge on scooters with a dry centrifugal clutch followed by a continuously varaible transmission... I'll explain : when the revs go up, the automatic clutch by centrifugal force starts to engage, thus it starts turning the first pulley of the variable transmission. But until the motor is high enough in the revs, the clutch isn't fully engaged, thus the friction heating and damaging the clutch. At a point around and above 20km/h, the clutch will be fully engaged. When you do figure 8 or very slow speed exercise, under 20 km/h, you have no stable traction available, a good trick to gain a very stable controlable traction is to keep the revs around 2500-3000, so that the clutch send traction, and control the lower speed with the rear brake. This allow you a stable 1km/h movement if you wish, but do it 1 min and after you can smell the famous heated metal... Scooters don't behave like a usual bike with a multidisk in oil clutch that is basically not heating, and you can't control them like you used to control your bike, it's a mechanical reason. But you're welcome to prove me wrong and show me a slow speed exercise at a steady 4-5 km/h without being jerky with on/off throttle, which will overheat the automatic clutch as well, and without bypassing the jerkiness by rear brake. I'm sorry, this is just the way those machines works. You're great at control of usual bikes, no doubt about it. But please do a little research on those scooters like your new c400, and mostly all other scooters with continuously variable transmission, and dry centrifugal clutch, and you will understand what I'm trying to explain (english isn't my mother language). And save yourself mechanical troubles. The Yamaha T-Max is a bit different, they did put a multidisk in oil clutch, same for the Kimco AK 550. I have a doubt about the 650 Burgman, dry clutch or wet, it's a strange beast with a false variable transmission... All 300cc and less scooters that I know about work the way I described, and have the same flaw at low speed. This is the reason my Honda Forza 300 is annoying me, I live in a town on a hill, like San Francisco if you wish, and since in Switzerland filtering is illegal, in uphill congestion I'm heating my clutch, I know the heated metal smell far too often for my pleasure... My Honda reseller aknowledged that the clutch should usually last 15k miles in a usual flat city as a commuter, but that in this town it may well be done under 7k miles... Have fun, and my bet is this scooter won't be fun for you for really long. They're practical and interesting as a daily commuter in a dense city, but apart from that they have their own flaws...

I'm such a noobie but my guess will be that Motojitsu will soon recognize and recommend scooters for all new riders. As the learning curve is massive with a typical motorcycle and having an automatic transmission frees up so much of you're mental resources. AND frankly I wish someone would have recommended this to me.

As of last month I'm a proud owner of an even better scooter Kymco AK550. I only say that because of the price of the BMW C 400x. For almost the same price you could have gotten the AK550. Why did you go with the BMW? Also there are lots of 2019-2020 Burgman 400 (400cc) out there for the same price as the C 400x (which is 350cc kymco engine)? I don't say that there is something wrong with the C 400x, just saying that there are better choices out there.

Many bikers are worried about small capacity scooters keeping up with traffic. Well, the (now discontinued in Europe) Suzuki Burgman 200cc will easily keep up with highway traffic (75-80 top speed). People get over-concerned about this. Even the Honda Forza 125cc will do 70 mph easily. Both have huge under-seat trunks so no need for a top box or panniers. I did a 3000 mile European trip on my Burgman and it was flawless. I could also spend hours in the saddle and not get tired as scooter seats tend to be way more comfortable than almost all motorcycles.
