That CAN DIAG SUPPORT MNTR is awesome. I wish we had that. That would save a lot of time. The analogy is very good as well between the DMM and the Picoscope. Great content! I'm in the Picogroup on Autonerdz forums too (Intermittent). I just got my 4425A asbout 3 weeks ago. I work on semi trucks though. Keep these videos coming please.

Hi HarleyMike! I'm a new sub but longtime autonerdz. I really appreciate you posting this for 2 reasons. 1) I love to see how other experienced techs work and 2) because you've identified the approach I take too! The truth (data) shall set you free I say and following a logical approach is the "only" way in my opinion to fix cars, particularly network probs. I have lots of people (when faced with a problem) that suggest - did you check.... ? Random checking will never solve it. Thanks again !

A good comparison for scope vs multimeter is having a professional photographer take your picture vs a 2 year old who can't sit still. Sure you'll get a picture either way, but you'll actually be able to see yourself in the professional shot!

The volt meter for both CANH and CANL shows problems for me as they are both ways out of my expectations. I also would not have blamed the camera for the problem without inspecting the wiring and connector for VD corrosion, I will guess that if that connector was completely unplugged, the CAN waveform or voltage would have been better pointing to the camera but detailed testing would have been accomplished before making that call. Anybody thinking the initial voltages were fair or thinking the camera was the problem NEEDED to watch this video if they don't know enough about the system overall. I have seen many connectors throw off techs when the connector was half-cocked and the tech not having a full understanding of all the circuits running through the connector in question. Actually, to them, it is not a question and is ruled out as a possible problem. I do not use the DLC when there is a Gateway involved, if I don't have a schematic, I automatically check in another location as a backup inspection. With your process of having scan codes and a schematic, the problem is pointed to very nicely and I always recommend a CAN schematic and list the codes down for the UCodes to figure out the area of the actual problem to eliminate areas that are not involved in the problem at hand. Service Info is the main problem for the guys who cannot afford ALLDATA, etc. The zoom-in at 20;42 shows high resistance in the curved lines, what type of resistance is to be proven, in this case, a weak connector. Possible skin corrosion but the reconnect would clean that off. We appreciate you brother.

Start by verifying the major input to the Trans. control unit. (Speed inputs). You can also disconnect the ABS module and test drive it, see if the problem is still present.
