Can minivans be cool? Meet the Toyota Previa

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The toyota previa is one of the coolest minivans in the world! Mid engine, awd, rear wheel drive and even 5 speed versions exist. Race car in a bloated minivan form.

I am the first owner of a ‘93 Toyota Previa LE with 275,000 miles and it still is going strong. Handling is so good with its mid-engine design and low center of gravity. I also own a Sienna 2015 model, and in comparison I would say the Previa with its rear wheel drive configuration and rack and pinion steering, handles way better. Lucky to have the full option version, with dual sunroofs, rear spoiler, abs brakes, 9 speaker system, tow package, captains chairs, and many more features that came all original. I would like to keep it for as long as I could. Since all Previas were assembled in Japan, the quality of workmanship is superior than those Japan manufactured vehicles but assembled elsewhere. The Japanese are a stickler for quality. Even the paint job in my van is original and shows no signs of fading. A really great van and I can attest to that fact as your video well describes.

Interesting thought. I know for sure every Previa was built in Japan. But yeah it's more like an American van than most Japanese vans of the time.

I love these vans! My mom had an awd version when they first came out. My older brother tried to drive it down one of the trails at our local ski hill 🤣. I remember hearing the call to my parents when he got in shit with the ski hill lol! That was clearly the last time he drove it.

My parents built their corporation off the backs of 3 Previas, with each having 'died' at 500,000KM plus. It's the easiest car to drive, and it's lightweight. Visibility and spaciousness. If you're moving cargo, it's a dream. However, its lightweight meant that driving on the freeway during high crosswinds was noticeable. This has earned the Previa the nickname 'The Bubble' or 'Bubs', because of its shape and how it interacts with the wind at high speeds. Hahaha There will never be another vehicle like this again.

Nice work on the video. My van is the one towing the trailer at 1:09. I would like to add that the swivel seats are a great function for traveling with kids. A lot of younger children need to be rear facing, and with the swivel seat, they can face the other passengers in the rear and not just look at the back of the seat. I took students from a middleschool class on a 3 hour drive for a class trip with the center seats reversed, and they had a great time hanging out together.

Awesome video! I remember the Toyota Previa. I loved its futuristic styling. Even 20+ yrs on, I still find it attractive. Even more so than the Sienna that replaced it. I'm rather old school when it comes to a car's drivetrain. I like that this still has the mid engine, rear-wheel drive drivetrain, rather than the "more modern" front-wheel drive, like Chrysler's "minivans" that were more popular at the time. The only thing I think this van could've used was a second sliding door for the driver's side, like most van today. I don't care about the supercharger, but I like the AWD "All-Trac" that was available.

Just a couple of things that I happen to notice. Why do you keep telling everybody how much it was new? Why is that so important to you? Dodge and Ford don't have a van that is as reliable as the Chevrolet Astro van. It's very common for those to have over a million miles on them, and I mean that quite literally. Captains chairs in the center row on Vans it's something that has always been a thing.

I'll answer this question. Yes, minivans can be cool... just not this one. This has always been the ugliest POS van ever. I'm surprised Toyota didn't have a TuRD edition with the All-Trac. Seems like almost everything they sell now with 4WD has a TuRD (TRD) edition. This van was the biggest PITA to work on. Piece of crap.
