It's pretty bad. If you ride gently im sure you can do better. But the bike is difficult to ride slowly. It wants to get moving fast. So maybe 35mpg. But ive heard of guys going 45mpg

Noticed there are no ABS "rings" on the brake disks. It was the first thing to jump to my attention. Had to do some research and found that the US models in that year's version didn't come standard with ABS, contrary to what we get in Europe. Greetings from Portugal. ✌

I think with some modifications either one of them can be to anyone liking ... Because any of scooter has their pros and cons but with some thought and no how people can modify it the way they like it... Great video

Thank you again for this video. We picked up a 201 Toyota Echo 4 door sedan with manual shift a few years back - on the strength of this video, and it's still driving like a champ! Very fun car! Very reliable, too!

This video is ridiculous. Some of the Honda elements I'm looking at are around 20 years older hovering ... The things that he's talking about are just normal wear and tear and the aging of metal and parts wear out my friend wow this is 6 minutes and 16 seconds of my life I won't get back😂👎🏽

AT 8:17 - the charge is a battery charger! I have one on my Red Honda Elite 110 - the cord is threaded through to the battery, and trickle charge, or charge up after period of inactivity is great. I just charged mine today (after letting it go too long over the winter).

All these things people say you can't do with this bike like commute, or cruise, or go on long rides. I used mine to commute to work as much as I could. I would get between 30-40 mpg out of it on the freeway, unless I was boosting it for fun. I found the VMax pretty comfortable to ride but you do need to plan on getting gas about every 100 miles with that 4 gal tank. I had an '88 that I bought new and had it for almost 10 years. I miss it, it was a fun bike, but it definitely doesn't like to be pushed at speed through turns.

I bought a new XR650R back in 2001 for $4,500. I put the Baja Designs street kit on it. The incandescent bulbs don't last but 2 seconds. I ridden that bike on so many single track trails. I still have it and still runs great.

Same timeline, same price, same baja design kit with flash 💡 bulbs... Mine was all corked up when I bought it (lucky for me). A full year later I fixed it and it was like a new bike. It was a new bike. A blast on the streets and a 👑 king on the (fast) trails. I've since upgraded to KTM 450sxf factory edition 😊 I do miss them long legs.

The critiques you are finding are minimal at best. Aside from the starter location. As for the seating, I think any family searching for a car will notice the maximum occupancy right off. This car was NOT designed for families. In fact, it was marketed toward young adults which backfired because they were the ones who could afford new cars the least. That audience was only reached when the used ones started going up for sale. You actually failed to mention the biggest problem with the Element and that is its capacity for rusting in the winter salt belt.

You repeated the same statements over and over, omitted certain details that may have helped more in understanding the bike and the narrative structure is all over the place. It's a 2yo video so I hope you evolved.

Wait untill you forget to latch the cover down on the saddle bag and it goes flying off down the highway and a tractor trailer goes running it over .. Thats exactly what happened to my Dad on his early 2000 Kawasaki Voyager.. Thats why I liked his Gl 1100 saddlebags better they were the drop down hinged

I am running into the same problem with my scooter on parts availability. Whether the bike is rare or just too old like my 2001 NSS250 Honda Reflex, parts are getting too hard to find for certain things and I don't have the ability to buy old junk ones and store them until I need the part for the one thats still is on the road. So far the good old Honda quality has kept me from needing much in the way of parts but with the amount of miles I put on each year it is only a matter of time. At present the main things are body parts that have cracked and broken so I have to use zip ties to keep them on but that sucks. Later folks, gotta go for a scooter ride!!😁

@15:15 your rear brake pedal is bent inwards and a little back. You can tell just by looking at it. The triangle tip should be pointing straight out, not back like yours. Try bending it back out a bit to make it easier to reach or buy a new rear brake pedal. Also, you are kick starting it wrong. First slowly kick through the entire cycle until you find TDC and slightly go past it, then, one swift kick and it comes to life.

what a great intro, to how the GL came about, i remember the first one i saw on the road, and it was a green one , and it looked so majestic sitting a the lights and how it just took off, and the intro was right, there was a local MotoGuse dealer who had a California in the window and it did look great, but not to be taken out if it rained, and i remember the BMW bikes and they so expenses, but like all thing that evolve, things got even better and the GL was no exception, but i must say, on my many ventures crossing Europe HDs have taken over, from BMVs and so on. And i have not seen many GLs on European roads. like one did years ago. yours Kevin

Thx, nice video. Brings back the feeling. I forgot about the choke and reserve fuel. I had a carbon Max as a daily for 13yr. Best and only mod I did was progressive spring in the tubes + thicker oil + hand warmers with a dragbar. And gaining some weight myself helped against the speedwobble. But the max liked to scare the driver time to time. Loved it.

Disagree with what Honda started out to create with the "GL" series. Think about what the 'market' was doing at the time of this bikes release. Think about their main competitor at the time, the " 903 cc" Kawasaki. NOT a big tourer ! But a big HOT Street Cruiser ! Think about the 750 Honda had lost the big "fast" bike edge to Kawasaki 2 years prior to the GL release. And though the GL was heavier than the Kawasaki, the GL also enjoyed 100 cc more displacement, bringing the heavier bike right into the same 'performance level' as the Kawasaki 900. Some say that the success of the GL bikes as touring machines, was a total streak of 'good luck' enjoyed by Honda, because the public 'made that happen '. And Honda was smart enough to see the opportunity afforded them by the publics interest, in the touring minded customers, and 'hastily JUMPED on the band wagon' ! Good luck, good quick response by Honda, ( the Japanese always did respond to the customers better than HD & the rest ! A lesson Harley still hasn't figured out !) And good design work by Honda creating a bullet proof product ! I commend Honda for producing their terrific bike 49 years ago ! And if I'm very lucky, maybe someday I'll be able to score an 'early GL' of my own. But I won't be loading it down with 200 pounds of garbage to go touring with it. I'll be looking to "Cafe" it out to go... Yup!... To the local Cafe, or to the beach, or to just cruise around the general area with it. Because, to my mind, that's what it is best suited for. And that is what I've always wanted to do with my bikes. BTW, I' ve never in my 50 years of riding desired any Japanese bike, nor have I owned any. But these early GL's... well, they're just something "special".
