Maybe it is different for Asians, but most people in Europe can recognize the most widely spoken languages in Western Europe like French, German, Italian, or Spanish, and obviously English. For me personally, recognizing other Germanic languages like Dutch, Swedish, Danish or Norwegian is also relatively easy. When it comes to Slavic languages though, unless you are from Eastern Europe and actually speak one of them, it becomes a bit of a blur and it is difficult to differentiate them . But that is just out of ignorance because we don't hear those languages very often and not because they do not sound intrinsically dissimilar from each other. I'm pretty sure a Polish person can easily recognize for example Czech, Serbian, Ukranian and obviously Russian . . In the case of Finnish, I suppose many people guess it based simply on the fact thay, being from a different language family, it sounds completely different from other European languages, except Estonian.

@@hmvollbanane1259 Yes, Hungarian belongs to the same family, but, at least to me, as a lay person, it doesn't look or sound similar to Finnish at all, whereas Finnish and Estonian are pretty close. EDIT: Finnish itself is not part of the Ugric group, but both Finnish and Hungarian are in the Finno-Ugric family. That family classification by the way is disputed by some linguists.

Concerning the Slavic languages, you do not need to speak them to be able to distinguish them. It is enough it you were enough exposed to them. For example where I live there was quite some immigration from former Yugoslavia. Due to this I heard enough Serbo-Croatian that I can easily distinguish it from other Slavic languages, because I know how it sounds.

One of my favorite videos from here. China speaks practically perfect American English, but occasionally there's a word that comes out weird. It's cute. Xen has a beautiful British RP accent. Cool to find out that Jessica is from Stuttgart, her German is a bit more familiar to me, my family came to the US from Neureichenau. I think the closest bigger city would maybe be Passau, with München being a bit further away. Gorgeous Italian from Grazia. They definitely got more difficult to guess, too. The clues were hinting that Lou-Anne might be from Switzerland. China asked good questions to narrow it down to France.

The UK has the largest Japanese population in Europe with 65,000 in total (most living in the Ealing district, borough of west central London). The UK is also the most Europe's most culturally flirted with country with at least 40 animes including at least the odd scene being a real UK location. Both also have plenty of common such as a royal family (hence Japan's imperial family also counting as royal) as well as both countries having their own type of tea. Both also have a solid friendship and good ties with both for instance forming a past alliance such as the UK and Japan Would War 2 alliance and to an extent both countries also do trade with each other. In my city Leeds (which gets a few hundred Japanese international uni students per year) there is also 1 Japanese school set up by former Japanese students that teaches at least 50 Japanese students who come from all over my region Yorkshire. The Japanese also love visiting a countryside tourist location called the Cotswolds which has also been sert in 2 different Japanese animes (kiniro Mosaic and The Ancient Magus Bride). The daughter of the emperor even attended a UK uni (my local Leeds met one) as well. So yeah, the UK is most likely the european country that has the closest tie to Japan (with in Europe).

The most shocking thing was the Finnish person walking to the closest while Finland in general is probably the country that has the biggest personal space need. The momin are an interesting thing, a Finnish Swede wrote it (in Swedish, in Finland) and the Japanese made an animation about them that everyone in Finland (and probably elsewhere) knows better than the original works. But Lada was quite a prank name, a Russian car. Funnily enough they thought she was from Russia because of the looks.

Unless you are really far north, light blonde hair is also very uncommon in Germany. Obviously you will find more blond people in Germany than most other places of the world but the alpine phenotype (very dark blond to brunette) is the majority here. In the south you also find a lot of people that you could mistake for your average South European. But obviously there are different definitions of blond. For some Asians or Middle Africans lighter brunettes are probably considered blonde. In my experience people who are very light blond in Germany are very often of slavic ethnicity.

I heard that in South Korea, they have a strange obsession with Russian women. Maybe these Japanese girls were influenced by that. It's a bit unfortunate these days. You couldn’t be more wrong. England has thousands of beautiful locations (gorgeous old villages, hamlets, market towns and small historic cities), and thousands of beautiful landmarks (medieval cathedrals, churches, castles, stately homes, Manor House’s, palaces, ancient sights, gardens etc). I am a foreigner, living in the gorgeous English countryside, and have seen so much of this for myself (as I am very interested in historic architecture). I would strongly advize you to discover these places for yourself, because England has so much beauty. If you would like any help on places in your region, I would gladly give you some recommendations. Also, Japanese citizens love the English countryside, and if you’ve ever been to a famous English region called the Cotswolds, you will see them there in their thousands exploring the villages.

@@darek4488 Do you mean Greater London, because I really love many of the counties close to London such as Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Kent, Sussex etc - I’ve seen so many beautiful villages and market towns within these regions on my travels, and the countryside is very picturesque. I will say, that with the county of Essex I notice this pattern. The southern part of Essex, which borders London, is totally different to the beautiful Northern half of Essex (the Northern half is filled with beautiful and traditional settlements; with lots of thatched roofs and brightly colored half timbered buildings).
