Can India and Pakistan resume talks?

CLAS held a webinar titled 'Can India and Pakistan resume talks?' on Tuesday, 2 July 2024.
India and Pakistan, both nuclear-armed neighbors have had a complex history of conflict and cooperation. The diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan have historically been fraught
with tension, marked by periods of hostility and limited engagement. Under the premiership of Narendra Modi, India has adopted a more assertive stance towards Pakistan, especially concerning issues of cross-border terrorism and the Kashmir conflict.
Speakers:
1. Amb. Ashraf Jehangir Qazi - Former High Commission of Pakistan to India.
2. Dr. Salma Malik - Associate Professor, Dept of DSS, QAU.
3. Mr. Rehman Azhar - Executive Director, CLAS.

Pakistan shouldn’t worry. Pakistan is a nazriati mulq like Israel, formed during the holy month, and Waahid Islamic nuclear power of the world. Pakistan’s problems are caused by saazish of yahood o hanood o nissara though China is a trusted friend. Pakistan is also a leader of the Muslim ummah and provides security to them all over the world.

Have you ever wondered what Pakistan might offer India? Why should India bother with normalizing relations when the threat of terrorism, once Pakistan's prized tool, is now neatly managed with tightened borders and global isolation? For any meaningful deal, both sides usually have something worthwhile to bring to the table. Considering past attempts at normalization, I think India should politely decline any normalization overture -thanks, but no thanks!

Exactly THIS. Pakistanis need to have discussions on what they can OFFER India. Wrong answers include: 1. We will stop training jihadis - not needed, we have namaloom afraad to take care of this now 2. Path to Central Asia - nope, not needed, India has other arrangements 3. We can prevent India from becoming economically successful - LOL, no

*The window of opportunity for Pakistan* to resolve Kashmir issue with India - by simply accepting the current LOC as international border and move on to improve relations with India - *is no longer available!* Even the Modi government was open to it till the Uri attack took place in 2018. Since then, and particularly after 5th August 2019 when article 370 in India was abrogated in Jammu & Kashmir, the Indian approach to Kashmir has fundamentally changed! Now a *final solution to the Kashmir problem* will happen only when the entire Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan) moves back to India. The Indian government knows that Pakistan is not going to wilfully handover, but has to be compelled to part with POK. Indian government now believes that this is simply a matter of time as the differential of political and economic power between the two countries widen further and further till Pakistan breaks under the force of competition and rivalry with India. *Pakistan ke foreign policy ka Janaza Nikal Gaya hai!* PM Modi in 2019 once famously said - "we have crushed Pakistan's pride and forced them to roam around the world with a begging bowl" Pakistan is now completely isolated from *both Global North & Global South* forums! India has kept *Pakistan out of BRICS.* SAARC has been killed by India to isloate Pakistan from regional cooperation! Meanwhile Indian Ocean Rim & BIMSTEC groups have been formed *without Pakistan* to foster regional cooperation between south Asian countries. *South Asia has become defunct!* It is now known as the Indian Sub-continent which is part of the larger Indo-Pacific region. *Pakistan is now part of the AfPak region!*

Anyway discussion on s bakwas because issue is different. Pakistan wants Kashmir because of religion as Kashmir is predominantly Muslim and whatever Hindus were there have been kicked out. Unfortunately by creation of Pakistan Hindu Muslim issue has bit settled because India have as much Muslim population as Pakistan therefore further divisions of country on religious lines not feasible. Kashmir is not territorial dispute but a religious dispute. Moreover let Pakistan asks themselves whether Kashmir is the dispute and if not whether India Pakistan relation would have been Gaga. No sir. Some other dispute would have cropped up. Once India realised that it is a religious issue which India with ever growing Muslim population can’t solve particularly when Pakistan is insincere. If it leads war or nuclear war so it be. There is no way out.
