Can I Turn Two BROKEN iPhones Into One Working iPhone? I bought 2 non-working iPhone 13 Pro Max phones to see if I can take the working board out of the one with a broken screen and put it in the other phone to make one good, working phone. I'm not a phone repair expert and I don't work on these very often so this will definitely be a challenge.

Tips: When swapping housings, you need to swap: battery, camera, FaceID assembly, and motherboard, to avoid errors. They’re all serially linked to the origin phone.

Yes. But the point is that they shouldn't be linked. As it prevents something that should be a simple fix.

Not the phone housing itself. The the internal components are married to the logic board. That's why there's QR codes on each component. Apple are the only one to program the components.

Of course not! Apple hated the 3rd party sellers making money on their products and preventing customers to buy their Apple Care. Now, their Apple Care program profits have increased since implementing each internal component to be married to the logic board.

This is why I never buy iPhones. If you are not allowed to fix it you are not owning it.
You can buy an ICopy and copy the old screen serial and write it over on the new screen. It will fix the error messages of the screen and colors calibration, works also for the battery :)
This is a BIG reason why I don't like or own any Apple products! Very good video Steve, TY for sharing!
Way back when the 4S was the cool thing I was doing a LOT of screen replacements. I was shocked and disgusted by just how much engineering went into making them as irreparable as possible and these new ones are even worse. What still amazes me is just how poorly people treat a device that is so expensive. but I guess that's why guys like you have the jobs you do. It's a shame more people don't recognise the skills you have and are willing to pay more for them.
That's the reason why I stop fixing iPhones in general because it gives you so much headaches, great video for spreading the awareness 😩
⛔ Something's down there That's what she said 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
It won't be long before Apple is pairing the glass to the phone. They've done it with the sleep sensor in their laptops now. This is why you're probably best avoiding anything Apple if you want to repair things in videos, everything is paired up.
You have to use that tool that plugs the screen in to it and transfer the data from the old screen to the new one then I think that will fix some issues
Great content, and excellent camera work 👍
Great job as always!
The face id module is paired to the logic board along with the cameras so in order to get it to work in a different iphone shell u would need to put the cameras, face id module and the battery from the broken phone into the shell of the icloud locked phone
Really helpful and fun! Love your videos and your smile!
You need to open the phone back up and put the battery, faceID and Camera from the broken phone in the new one. Then you need to reprogram the new screen to the old phone and it will resolve all your messages.

Unless you have access to GSX and AST2 then you can't reprogram. The SN of all iPhpone parts are stored in apples servers.
I think there are flash memroy inside them with an id. You need to read the old ones and program the new screens and other parts. I have seen that others doing that. There is a special programmer /reader for that.

Haven’t made it to the screen replacement part of the video. But what I can tell you is that Apple serialize every part of the phone to the board including the screen. FaceID needs to be transferred over too.

I loved this one. It's nice to see a very skilled person like you doing something like this for the first time.
Another great video!
Good video out there. Helps educate people that a broken Iphone on Ebay may not help them fix their own Iphone.
The ribbon cable on the bottom is only with millimeter wave iphones. These have an extra ribbon for the antenne. Thats why you dont see them in all repair guides.
You should definitely do some glass-only repairs! Get yourself some of the tools and let us enjoy the show :D
Yeah all parts are serial number linked so when transferring the screen you need to take the data from the old one and onto the new. As well as transfer over the cameras etc

It’s easy if you use the suction cup near the charging port to lift the screen and push the screen from the top toward the charging port

My favourite part was the satisfying removal of the battery adhesive tape 😁
Do you have swap earpiece on display assembly, its for face id
Love your shirt in this! 😂
Does the Face ID module of the broken phone work?
Swap the battery, camera and front camera module, from the old (broken) phone to this phone and the messages will go away and you’ll also get Face ID function back. These parts from the old phone are still completely fine
@TheSpotify95
Жыл бұрын
I think there might still be issues with the Face ID by replacing the original display? and also you lose True Tone and Automatic Brightness.
Hello. You need proximity sensor to Face ID to work. Great video overall
Take also from the other phone, battery rear camera and front camera and sensor flex on the top of display, all warning messages would we gone.. let me know if you need more info about it
Please do more....
Do you have a screen programmer? That should sort the display messages as you transfer the serials so they match up.
@StuffIHave
Жыл бұрын
Not exactly. iPhone 8-XS have no important display message, but need to be reprogrammed in order for true tone to work. All iPhones after that will always display the message unless you transfer the IC. Some of the newer models can still be reprogrammed to enable true tone, though the reprogramming doesn’t get rid of the message.
normally I find these videos relaxing to have on in the background, but this one kept me on the edge of my seat. apple does not make it easy to repair these phones...
there is 2 screws neer charging port did you removed them 🤔
you need to copy the serial from the old screen to the new screen as they are all registered by serial numbers
Parts are matched to each phone. I don’t mess with iPhones. Screws are all different sizes and different screw heads.
All iPhone part contain it's specific id mamery (You can import mamory transfer device for solving all this problem or you just simply change only display of phone which will relief functionality of face id and camera)
You need to program the screen with the info of the old one there is a device that will do that I forgot what it is called but it copies the info of the old one and puts it back into the new screen.
The answer is it will partially work but with bugs. Seen them swapping part on between 2 working new iPhone 13 and end up with bugs on both until you swap back it parts.
You should also transfer the camera modules.
I know this is a little off topic but have you ever had a Xbox One controller that the ABY and X buttons don’t work and the left analog stick is glitching out
ahh so much effort you put into it just to get these stupid errors!!!
u need a programming tool for the LCD cameras and battery
I remember you making Iphone fix videos before, and you had to use some migrating tool (like you load data from old iphone, and then plug it in on new iphone to unload to the new one)... I think it was connected with something about touchscreen, but perhaps this is what is necessary to be able to use other stuff??
Maybe you should have checked their repair guide before trying to remove the 5g cable ;) good job on soldering though!
You have to transfer all these, front facing camera, battery, back camera and screen to remove those msges only msg should remain is the screen you have all the other parts from the original phone
I stopped buying Iphones a long time ago and I do not miss them !!!!
A cheap tool like the QianLi Apollo or JC V1 SE can reprogram all the components you swapped so everything functions correctly. Sucks that you need them but at least they are readily available and not expensive.
Didn't you have to replace the front camera assembly and the earpiece to make the Face ID work? Same with the cameras, as the cameras native to the board seem readily available.
That cable is the 5g mm wave cable, it only found in the us model iPhone 13
All that you need to do is but all the parts from the cracked back in and you will only get the one notification that says the screen cannot detect if it is a genuine port
how do you get these ? :)
I will never in my life buy an Apple product. Great video though
Why didn't you reprogram the lcd again?
I knew it wasn’t possible and yet i watched it anyways lol
You have to switch over everything on the glass and then program it from the old one to the new one
Yup Hugh Jeffreys did it, before got the same error
Pro tip for anyone working on iPhone 12 and higher. • heat phone to 80c • stick a thin metal prying tool at the bottom of the screen, NOT A JIMMY TOOL, its too thic, it has to be razor blade thin, a razor blade is also good, but its best to use something that is as wide at possible, to the pressure is even • bend the thin metal slice/razorblade backwards and the bottom of the screen should easily pop out • stick one of those blue picks under the screen and reheat • use a little isopropyl on another pick and slowly seperate around the screen, if the top of the screen wont let go thendo the same as you did on the bottom. Im thinking of uploading a video on it, i rarely ever see anyone open iPhones like this but its definitely the fastest and most effective way, i know plenty of Apple techs who does it this way instead of using the Apple screen seperator
That one cable which was soldered to the botom board is the 5G Antenna
Why didnt you swap over faceid camera and battery from the other housing? You would only have a display message kow most of the phone wont even function. Even the rear camera wont work properly.
U should have used the original face id when switching boards the face id and battery is programmed
Love that shirt 😂
I'm not sure what tear-down guides you found. But if i may suggest a channel , Hugh Jeffery does some really good Iphone videos. I know he talks about the screen errors you got at the end from time to time as well.
You forgot to put back the metal shields covering the ribbon cables...
Tronix there are tools to code the screen so that it doesn't throw the error of screen legitimacy. Basically it pulls the data from the old screen which you can then use to copy to the new screen. Thereafter it should work as usual. That being said it is completely unnecessary and just an anti repair move from Apple. The battery can also be coded in the same way to appear genuine
Use clear tape on cracked screen helps remove the screen
Eve if you put original parts in iphones this days because of the serials of the original parts are register in the motherboard it will not identify the original parts thats why iphone techs using gadgets and other work around like the swapping the chip of the battery to the new battery is needed just to confuse the program to loose those notification....
You need to transfer the small parts and transfer IC chips from old ribbon cable to new ribbon cable, you have to do this with every single chip, it requires re-balling and its a pain in the ass lol
Like how you put the glove on with the non broken screen 😂😂😂
Steve mats don’t really work I use heat gun and use triangles and heat together playing cards help too

I got a switch that doesn’t display to tv on dock, and the left joycon buckle needs replaced, and probably needs its battery replaced. Totally will pay for parts if you will fix it!
@JamieMatthewsAtWars
Жыл бұрын
Try cleaning out the charging port while the switch is off. Try it with another dock if possible too, its likely some debris is allowing the switch t charge but not enough of the pins are clean enough for HDMI output. When you say buckle with regards to the joycon, what part do you mean? is the analogue stick drifting? the battery replacement is nominal, but the adhesive is strong, I recommend neutralising that with IPA. If youre in the UK, feel free to PM.
This makes me miss the days of Nokia cell phones that had faceplates you could swap.
How can we order products from india.? Ifixit doesn't deliver here
haha funny too see this but i can tell its your first time really simple project if you know what to do but i give you props
Well, you can swap in the camera and maybe battery too from the other iPhone so the messages go away!
Yes finally we got phones
For faceid to work you need to replace the front camera from the original
U could have soldered the little chip on the screen an Batterie to the oter Display and other Batterie. That way the iPhone thinks its the same part. Or u could use a Tool (also solves the faceid issue) its called ICopy. I work with iPhones every day and its quiet anoying...
Heat gun is the best

Hugh Jeffereys would be proud of you!
u should first transfer the old broken display data to new n so on with the camera n batery n all
Wow this phone is very repairable/s
Yo, I get exactly what you mean. I replaced the big screen protector on my Samsung Z Fold 3 myself with a kit I purchased off of Amazon, so when I stopped in and told ATT that I did that while getting another phone hooked up for service, they lost their mind. Like I'm going to go back to them, for them to tell me they can't do it and I need a new phone. (Which coworkers that have the same phone did, and that's what they were told.) Now granted, that's not the manufacturer telling me I couldn't do it. But we should have the freedom to fix our own stuff with OEM equipment or otherwise.
